Thanks Yelpers for another good steer! If you are driving to Vegas, you probably stop for food somewhere along the way. Eat here!! Im telling you, don't waste time or money at any of the fast food chains that are on your nuts right off the exit. This place is the Bomb compared to what else is available nearby. All the food taste so fresh and homemade. and for around $7 a plate with rice and beans, its a good price. So cal mexican food is good, but often times leaves you feeling super full and heavy. Well don't freight cause Lolas is very light and fresh. Even the beans and rice are super clean and light. not oily or over seasoned. I got the shredded beef taco. it was really good. The enchiladas suizas were also very good and fresh, not overloaded with cheese and sauce, but just right! You wont have to worry about eating this food and then driving in the car for another 2-3 hours. I think. just try it. read more

The bottom line: Lola's kitchen is a great place to stop on the way from Las Vegas to Los Angeles or the way from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, and get what is probably the best home-cooked Mexican food you will have anywhere. The pros: the food is fresh, very tasty, very authentic, and cheap. Don't be deterred by the location. Lotus kitchen is staffed by very friendly ladies who don't shy away from explaining everything you need to know about their food. The cons: I can only think of one small problem: if you want to pay with a credit card, there is a one dollar fee. read more

This place is the real deal and has some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. The Chile Relleno I got was so full of flavor and stuffed with cheese and battered and fried with a nice sauce over it and the beans were incredible and I usually don't eat beans at most Mexican restaurants but this was made from scratch. All the food is homemade and the Carne Asada taco was made from marinated steak and grilled to perfection. Also I tried their Shredded Beef Sopes and OMG it was the best tasting Sopes I have ever eaten. This place is a true gem in Barstow and I can't wait to go back and eat their again with my family. Thank you Yelpers for pointing the way to this quick stop. We would not have found it otherwise. The place is a small clean Mexican restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring out hot authentic Mexican food. I had the flauta which was stuffed full of juicy shredded beef with a side of rice and beans. Yum! My sweetie had the carne asada which he liked very much. There were hot crispy chips brought out initially and as she saw we were gobbling them up she promptly refilled the bowl. The salsa was spicy but not too hot. The artwork was campy but cool. The bathrooms clean and warm. We were in and back on the road in less than thirty minutes. The water was self serve in a clear container and contained fresh cucumbers in it. If you find yourself in Barstow needing a bite to eat, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lola's kitchen. read more

When in Barstow.....you know, on your way to Joshua Tree from the Bay Area.....just go here. The food is good authentic Mexican and soooo reasonably priced. The place is in a strip mall with a Vons, but the interior is very cute. The staff is super welcoming and friendly. read more

Well, if you are in Barstow or just passing thru...this is THE place. Informal and inexpensive. I love this place. I wish they could relocate to old town Barstow, a place time and people forgot. This was the best place I've eaten so far in my cross country bike ride. If you're there on Thursday get the enchiladas mole.

I found the staff (owners?) RUDE and offensive. I'm confined to a wheelchair, and they made no bones about the space I took in the extraordinarily tiny space. (Restrooms are not equipped for the disabled either) Don't expect to comfortably sit and dine in, you'll find yourself standing along the walls, or going outside to eat. The food is your "run of the mill" Mexican style, and certainly not worth standing in line for! Robertitos, Rosita's or Plata's all offer much better fare; the respective restaurants are roomier, making them conducive to customers relaxing with their meal. read more

The food was actually really good, tacos (asada) was to die for, pork tacos was good too. In a not-so-great shopping plaza, inside the store was cute. It's more like a fast food (order at the counter) style, but food is not fast food at all. I think it's rather pricey for the location, they only have American sodas (nothing like horchata, etc.). So the food itself is definitely 5 starts, but in overall (location, variety, service, price, no toilet paper..) 4+ stars. I will be back when we head back to Vegas though. read more

What a nice surprise. This small restaurant only seats 22 diners. Their food is authentic and flavorful and inexpensive. Carnitas plate was yummy as was the #5 relleno and enchilada verde. You would never venture into this small shop with its ten feet of frontage in a strip mall next to Vons market and Dollar Store...except for its excellent ratings on Yelp. We stopped here on a gas stop heading back from the river. We were greeted right away with a smile. We ordered the chili relleno and enchilada combo that came with rice and beans and carne asada nachos with a side enchilada and 2 small drinks we spent $28. Great place to stop if you are craving Mexican food. read more
