If you're passing by Barstow, this is a great spot for Mexican food. The staff is so friendly, and food comes out pretty quick. The chicken enchiladas with salsa verde were so good and definitely worth the hype. They only serve the mole on thursdays, but they might have leftovers if you ask. Great genuine Mexican food that hit the spot

Good taste local place . We were looking for a comet this morning and no luck but a good breakfast with local patron who were friendly. Lola's has that homey Ohana vibe.. Thank ypu for sharing your family cuisine.

Service was excellent and the food was good! Lots of choices, it was hard to pick just one. It's tucked away in the corner of the center, so look harder if you don't see it right away.

Whether you're en route to Las Vegas or on your way home from it. Stop enjoy a plate of authentic Mexican Food. The customer service is great. It is a small hole in the wall but those are the best spots to enter. The area is nice and clean. Restrooms are available and there is plenty of parking.

While traveling home from Vegas we wanted a breakfast burrito. I looked on yelp and found great reviews for this restaurant. I called ahead and ordered and they had the burritos hot and ready for us. They tasted great and were reasonably priced. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. My only complaint was that after using their restroom, which was really clean, I went to wash my hands and the water did not work. My husband said the men's restroom was the same. Luckily I had hand sanitizer clothes in my purse still from Las Vegas.

A bit out of the way from highway. But quite authentic. Their California burrito and the Nacho plate were awesome. The nachos were really fresh and guac was awesome on it. A small place and can get crowded quickly. Fast service. But not very organized. Don't expect that they come to ask for water. Also, I wish two or three hot or mild sauces. They had only one sauce: it was hot and it was okay: not very flavorful.

This was my second time in to Lola's kitchen, and honestly the first time made such an impression on me that I had to scour Yelp and find the name of it, since I could not initially remember. This place in Barstow is such a gem, in a totally unassuming parking lot. The first visit we were on our way to Orange County and this second time we were in our way back to Vegas, and it was my first time bringing hubs along. We're both vegetarian, and honestly there's not much listed on the menu as being such but they don't cook their beans in lard here, they use water so that was the green light. I ordered myself three bean and cheese tostadas, he went with the vegetarian burrito, and we got a quesadilla and fries for our littles and some chips and salsa to all share. Since we had been in the car for just under 3 hours, it was time to stretch our legs so we opted to dine in. The seating area is not huge but they do have several tables to sit in, and a few booth seats. The interior is clean, and their bathrooms are as well. Now onto the star of the show, the food! Their beans are SO flavorful, the tostadas were made fresh and you can taste it. Their red salsa is AMAZING, garlicky and the way I prefer, not chunky but made smooth. Gosh, it is really so delicious and my husband agreed. He quickly ate 2/3's of his burrito and said he enjoyed it so much. We definitely have a new spot to stop at now when we're passing through Barstow.

I got the breakfast burrito with chorizo and ham! They do charge extra for extra meat but it was worth it had a ton of flavor.

I some times take a circuitous ruote on my way from LA to Vegas and bypass my typical in and out lunch stop at Barstow forcing me to gas and refresh off of main street. I typically just setttle for McDonald's but decided to Yelp something new and be adventurous. I found Lola and decided to go because of the excellent review. This restaurant is in a shopping mall with a black out tint on the outside making it extremely unininviting but once you step in it's anything but that. The 6 women working away in the back of the kitchen gave this place a nice cozy feeling. I ordered a carne asada torta and it was excellent. Good bun and well prepared meat. I will be going back to try more of their food on my next stop to Las Vegas. read more

A bit out of our way and in a strip mall didn't encourage us to enter but once we did all the colors and flavors of Mexico surrounded us. I got the steak burrito simmered in a beautiful sauce. Meat was flavorful plentiful and tender. Worthwhile! read more

Bomb ass enchiladas! Omg so flavorful - the right amount of cheese, chicken, and salsa! I loved it. They were the husbands but I stole some I got the huevos rancheros. It was alright , not the best. It wasnt as flavorful. The salsa was kind of bland and the rice wasn't that great. Needed maybe more salt and bouillon but next time I will try the chilaquilles. This place is diamond in this town. I have tried a few places. I come from Mexicali/valley and the food here is tasty with flavor. The Mexican food here is great. The place has a nice vibe. The cashier was a nice person very helpful in describing the portions and what we would like to try. The place decor was so beautiful so vibrant and gave me a welcoming feeling. They serve you chips with good tasting salsa. I have nothing bad about this place. If it wasn't for the good yelp reviews, I'd never go in there because doesn't look much from outside. A tiny little whole in the wall in the weathered down strip mall. You walk in and sit wherever you want. There's not that many tables, maybe 10 at the most. You decide what you want while munching on the chips and salsa. When you decide , you have to go up to the register and order and pay. Then you go back to the table and sit down. They bring you the food. It's kind of different but the food was really fresh and homemade like taste which is nice. It's like eating lunch at one of my Mexican friends house. Really loved the flavor of Mexican steak. It's got kick to it with fresh jalapeños and delicious with chopped tomatoes. Ok. Off to a desert adventure in Utah and Arizona. read more

Barstow is a ratty place... If you must be there...you must go to Lola's. As many positive reviews as there are, only one other couple was there the same time as us - also, coincidentally, from Utah. I enjoy personal touches like fruit infused water (orange strawberry). I appreciate the overall cleanliness, but particularly the restrooms (the CLOSE proximity of the urinal to the toilet is very odd - watch your head). The chips and salsa are a nice touch, with good flavor, but thin consistency. When my plate came out I was surprised by how fresh and nice everything looked (check my pics). I completely enjoyed my plate and would gladly order it again...and again. I'm certain I'll be stopping here one the way home from CA each and every time. This was the best most unexpected part of our desert trip to Mojave. Kids wanted food and Barstow was the last town before the desert getaway. We found Lola's Kitchen on yelp. Menu was rich in Mexican options and fairly priced. We loved the personal touches to dishes and the fact that if none of the menu items above 'float your boat' there was always good ole American burger. We of course didn't go that route and instead picked two delicious options off the menu. One breakfast, one lunch and one of us wanted a custom burrito which they accommodated so nicely. Just note they did not have black beans. We sat out front in the sunshine because it was still Covid but there is inside seating too. Small cozy mom n pop vibe. Just the way we like it. Locals that came through were all nice. Staff was so friendly and welcoming. I even ran into the owner who gave me a brief history of the establishment. Great story! Glad you've been the authentic Mexican for so long and may you continue to thrive. We ended up stopping here again on our way out of Mojave and you can count on us stopping here again on any future trips. read more

Pretty average except for the verde sauce which was great! You order at the counter after getting menus and a place to sit in the small restaurant. Staff is friendly and serves food quickly. They have some chips and salsa, which was Ok. I had the No. 15 Chili Verde which is pork served with a very flavorful verde sauce, 4 tortillas, and it comes with rice and beans that you get every where. My wife had No. 5 which was a Chili Relleno and chicken enchilada with rice and beans. The Chili Relleno was not very tasty and the enchilada hardly had any chicken in it. The only plus to the enchilada was it was covered with the verde sauce. Food - 3 stars - Average except noted above. Atmosphere 3.5 stars - Its a strip mall site with some art on the wall. Service - 3 stars - Friendly but you order at counter and you get your drinks. Price - 4 stars - Our lunch was about $25. read more

My wife and I stopped here for lunch on the way to Vegas. It is a hole in the wall, but really fresh and modern decor inside. The chicken enchiladas with Verde sauce was super fresh and tasty. The rice was so good. Chips are freshly made. The salsa has a good bite to it. My wife enjoyed her shredded beef tacos. So tasty and such nice service. We ate here on the drive from Palms Springs back home to Vegas, and I am so sad I can't eat here more often!! The salsa is perfect, just the right amount of chips. Everything came out really quick and had such rich flavor. I will be stopping here on any trips I take through town! The owner was super friendly, and had such style! My husband and I have stopped in Barstow for lunch when driving from AZ to the San Francisco Bay Area. We absolutely love it! The food is delicious; the salsas are the best I've ever tasted. Following other recommendations, we stopped here on the way through Barstow. I got the enchiladas verde as I was told these were popular and I can see why. My 12 year old loves his carnitas fries. Hubby got enchiladas suizas and is also happy. Staff are friendly and welcoming. read more

Did I miss something here? My wife ordered the California burrito and it was stuffed with french fries and pretty much nothing else! No avocado, sour cream and very little carne asada. Maybe they should change the name to French fry burrito? My huevos ranchero was pretty underwhelming. Sorry but this place was most definitely a swing and a miss! read more

The owner and her family are such nice people. The food came out fast and everything was amazing. The menudo was BOMB! the ceviche tostada was so yummy, and the michelada? Whew. Spicy, tangy, and perfect. We also had a combo plate with chile verde, rice, and beans that was chef's kiss. If you're driving through Barstow, whether it's on the way to Vegas, Palm Springs, or just passing by do yourself a favor and stop here instead of a fast food chain. Support local. Dining, like everything in Barstow, is horrible. So we didn't have high expectations when we walked into Lola's Kitchen. While we were standing in line, waiting to place our order, the guy who had been standing directly ahead of us in line got upset and started yelling about someone stealing his pipe. Or an e-cigarette. Or something. Was a little bit hard to follow. But he was pretty worked-up, pacing back and forth, shouting. Kept going to the bathroom, more agitated every time he came out, disrupting the whole restaurant. When he pointed an accusatory finger in our general direction, my brother told him to go fuck himself. Think what he actually said was something more like, "Listen, I don't care what you lost, whether it was your car keys or your girlfriend. It's got nothing to do with us." He backed-off, muttering something about calling the cops. Riiiiiight. Like the police had nothing better to do. What an idiot. But then whaaaaaa? To our surprise, just a few minutes later two Barstow police officers arrived on the scene. They took the 'victim' outside, and when they came back into the taqueria, walked straight up to us. "What seems to be going on here boys?" We were amazed. They actually seemed to be taking this seriously. Couldn't understand why, but told them what we knew (in between bites), which was that guy was yelling about somebody stealing something from him. That was pretty much the whole story. "Okay boys, that's fine. We're going to need to see some identification". Confused, Rob and I look at each other. Us? What? Wait a second, what's going on here? Why? "Standard procedure". They assured us that we were not suspected of stealing anything, but insisted that they needed to see identification "for their report". We told the officers, respectfully, that we did not wish to identify ourselves, asserting our rights to privacy. But they seemed to take our refusal to identify ourselves as some kind of challenge to their authority and things escalated quickly from there. They told us, repeatedly, that we did not have the right to refuse to identify ourselves. But feeling pretty confident that we were completely within our rights, we held our ground. We asked them several times if we were being detained, or if we were free to leave. They refused to answer us, saying only that they were conducting an investigation, and that we had to identify ourselves. So we sat there with those police officers hovering over us, making it physically impossible for us to stand up and leave. Was allowed to go get some more salsa, which was not great, but better-than-barstow good. Finally, when we were about halfway through our burritos, the officers threatened to arrest us if we did not identify ourselves. That's when I asked to speak to their shift supervisor. While we were waiting for their overlord to arrive, Rob and I talked about how things were going (not well) and the possibility that we might actually end up in jail over this. Un-fucking-believable. Told him that I was inclined to stand firm, but that if he'd rather indulge them and avoid the hassle, I'd go along with that. Eventually the shift supervisor did show up. With backup. Lots of backup. At least three more cars and 4-5 more officers. It was preposterous. But what a relief. Thought we'd finally have a chance to clear-up this misunderstanding. Stood-up, shook the shift officer's hand, thanked him for coming out, apologized for wasting his time, introduced myself and my brother (first names), and briefly explained what had happened. Assumed we'd just cleared everything up, but without a moment's pause, he replied, "Boys, you're either going to present identification to these officers or you're going to jail." There was not going to be any further discussion. When confronted with this ultimatum, Rob stood-up and put his hands behind his back. We got to Lola's from a recommendation of one of the local motel clerks. We've passed through town twice since then and we always stop here for a quick bite. Pros: Food is delicious, prices are reasonable, portions are large. A big bonus is that it's prepared relatively quickly compared to the quality you receive - only took about 12 minutes for a large order for 8 people. Complimentary chips are really good and if you get a to-go order over $20, you get a big container of chips and salsa for free. The interior decor is fresh and interesting, apparently it's also seasonal since it's been different every time we pass through. Cons: If you have special requests, prepare to be disappointed. My son doesn't like guacamole (he's an adult, or else I'd tell him to suck it up and eat the damn thing) the first time we came here apparently they were out of guacamole and substituted substantially large slices of ripe avocado. Delicious! We all loved it. On the second trip, they had guacamole on hand - my son requested the slices and the cashier happily obliged. However, the order did not come with the avocado slices - instead it came with guacamole. To add insult to injury, there was a mysterious fee attached to our receipt. We were kinda disappointed, but this can all be avoided by simply ordering on-menu, with no special requests. Let them do what they do, they do it just fine. If you have special dietary concerns, maybe you might want to go elsewhere. The dining area is also rather small - but that's to be expected for a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. There is no external seating nearby and no local parks in the immediate vicinity, so you better not be squeamish about eating in your car. They close at 6PM... I want to make sure I understand this correctly. The food was overpriced and the service was poor. The pricing policy also seemed inconsistent. Removing items from a dish did not reduce the price, yet adding something small like cheese or pico significantly increased the cost. While the food itself was decent, it felt overly expensive for the overall experience. Some of the food also tasted like it had been reheated and did not seem freshly prepared, almost as if it had been sitting for a day or two before being served. When I saw the cooking pots being used, they also appeared heavily burnt, which raised concerns about the overall kitchen standards. From what I had previously heard and read, this restaurant was once considered one of the best Spanish restaurants. Unfortunately, that no longer seems to be the case. The environment also did not meet expectations. There appeared to be little enforcement of a dress code, and the atmosphere felt disorganized. The service was also slow, and staff seemed more focused on socializing and laughing than providing prompt assistance. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant, especially for anyone looking for good value or a more professional dining experience. read more

Totally Amazing. Everything is fresh and the secret to why it is so good is because it's made with LOVE. My favorite is the Chelaquiles with Carne Asada, Chorizo sope, Zincronisadas, and chicken taquitos. I cant just pick one. It truely is a home cooked meal. It is family owned and operated. Not only is the staff family but they you feel like family too. Just recently Lola did a big remodel of Lola's kitchen in appreciation and thank you to all her costumers. Quaint home cooked Mexican food. My husband wanted to stop for a quick meal and I found Lola's on Yelp. All the reviews are true, no exaggeration. The restaurant is family owned and run and it shows. The restaurant is clean, the kitchen, dining room and bathroom, which sets the tone. The chips, salsa, taquitos and hard-shell tacos were some of the best authentic food I ever had. The taste of each item blended deliciously. I highly recommend this Barstow gem. read more

TERRIBLE! Won't be going back! The owner is a real JERK! Disrespected us when we had difficulty using the new chip card payment system...and gave us total attitude when my husband tried telling him that the meat inside his chicken enchiladas was COLD...owner had the nerve to tell us that the food was NOT COLD but rather the sour cream on it was...SERIOUSLY?!?! Great spot, food always tastes fresh and at very reasonable prices. I go here straight from my office job, so be sure to ask your co workers if they want anything because this place is well loved especially by all the locals. Clean inside, decent amount of tables to dine in if you like but I've always ordered to go. Pro tip: Breakfast burritos are the best at anytime of the day! read more

Their food is sub-par. I do not understand why everyone "seems" to like it here. They have NO horchata, they try to charge you a surcharge for using your visa/debit card and not tell you about it, and they never have any seating. BEST place to have Huevos Con Machaca is at Casa De Jimenez, by the way. They way Lola's cooks it here is just disgusting. read more

I travel to Los Angeles very often and always stop at Barstow to use the restroom and fuel up. One day i was very hungry and found Lola's kitchen. I skipped breakfast so i ordered up an egg omelet with some chicken. Delicious food and friendly customer service will bring me back to Lola's in the future. read more

The Best Machaca I have ever had! Fresh jalapeños, good coffee, and asada fries!! Killer. They are French fries topped with carne asada, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Sinful and good for leftovers, considering you can't eat it all at once. They are open at 4:00am!! read more
