I was driving home from the Grand Canyon back to Los Angeles. After 300+ miles of dessert and nonstop driving, I knew that I needed a break. I looked at the map and see Barstow, there's gotta be tons of places there to stop, eat, and recharge. So I bust out the trusty Yelp app and bam, first place is Lola's and it didn't disappoint. I ordered the California burrito and it was very good. Granted, looking around the restaurant I should have gone with a breakfast item which are served all day and seemed to be what everyone was ordering. The customer service was excellent and the vibe was great. Next time I drive through here, I'll def be back. read more

Came to Barstow to run some errands and came across this mexican place. Cleanliness: 5 stars. Place is super cute, it shows that the owner is proud of his business. From the stainless steel salt and pepper shakers on the tables to the plant arrangements on each tabletop to the spotless corners under the tables, this place is spotless Bathrooms are super clean also! Kudos for that!!! Service: It is ran by ladies here. They are all busy taking care of orders and the food came out super quick. Food: My husband had three tacos: a shredded beef that he loved, he ended up ordering another one after he was done eating. He also had a carne asada which he said was good but not as good as the shredded beef and he had a pork taco. The pork was a little too dry for him. But all in all he was happy with his meal. I ordered a chile verde plate. The green sauce was very tasty but it seemed like I got two different cuts of meat. The rice and the beans were very good. Would we come back? Yes! Next time your on I15 heading to Vegas, and you stop at the Barstow ca and you get gas, stretch your legs or get something to eat, and if you want fast food then stop at barker station barstow ca, but if you want some really good Mexican /which is Homemade food then go to Lola's Kitchen it's not a large restaurant, but we found the food to be more on the home made not fast food. The portions were large and I ended up bringing home some of my burrito. Next time I drive by to or coming from Vegas, I'll stop there and avoid the crowd at the station! read more

Located cozily in a sleepy strip mall off of historic Route 66 is Lola's Kitchen. Honestly from the outside I didn't expect much but inside of this small restaurant is colorful with beautiful artwork on the purple painted walls and delicious smells. Some of the most delicious & memorable food I've ever had in the High Desert. I came in during the weekday lunch rush and it was hustlin' & hustlin'. I was greeted by a charming young man at the register and noted the three abuelitas in the kitchen. Seeing abuelitas carefully preparing dishes literally melts my heart. I knew I was in for a treat. I ordered two carne asada tacos. Two tacos and a small drink cost me $7.00. The salsa they gave for the chips were the perfect spicy accompaniment for the tacos. The pico de gallo that comes on top is pretty special at this place...the onion and tomatoes were very fresh. These tacos were some of the most delicious tacos I've ever eaten in my life. The meat was generous and juicy. I wish I was hungrier... I could've eaten 2 more. I am totally jealous of the locals who get to frequent this place! What a gem hidden in the desert. read more

We stopped by here on our way back to LA. Fast and friendly service. We got there at 3pm and the place was busy. Quesadilla portion is big. The kids didn't finish eating it. #7 carnitas plate- comes with lettuce, rice, beans and tortilla. The carnitas was a little dried. #12 -2 tacos plate with steak- it was delicious. I love how friendly the people are that work here and the food is delicious too. The burrito has guacamole and they don't charge extra for it which is nice. Lola's is that perfect "hole in the wall' gem of a restaurant. Small with bright green and red walls, artwork, eclectic wall hangings surround a handful of tables. We were there for lunch and luckily found an open table. The 4 page menu offered everything for the smaller appetite to combo meals. We were greeted with fresh chips and thin salsa which we found to be average. We chose the chicken sope which came with with tender chunks of white meat, shredded lettuce, crumbled cotija and green sauce. It was very good and just enough for my small appetite. My dining companion had the chicken taquitos. There were 3 on the plate with shredded lettuce, guacamole and pico de gallo on top. They had shredded white meat chicken and were hot and tasty! Wonderful taste with fantastic mixture of beans, guacamole and other mouth watering ingredients. The # 5 is a chicken enchilada with a chili relleno was quite delightful. By SoCal standards, Lola's food measures up to an average. Compared to the rave reviews, this was quite a let down. The best were the chips which were thick and salsa delicious. The carne asada was shaved thin and flavorful and tender. The chili verde pork was anything but tender but the verde sauce was great. The kids had the cheese enchilada which was what you would expect. The rice and bean were good but not as out of this world as some of the reviewers noted. Also, the portion was very underwhelming. Those with big appetites beware. Yes, bathrooms were clean but I hardly think this is something to rave about. Overall, a good place but I don't think I'd make a special pit stop here for a meal. read more

Love finding little gems in the middle of nowhere, and Lola's is no exception. Texted a buddy who grew up here and asked where I could get a bomb-diggity breakfast burrito, he said Lola's....so, after 10hrs of driving from Abq, in I pull to a bland little side strip mall near the grocery store. Walk into to a cute little seating area, with a "mama" type of gal in her 60's behind the register. Sweet and polite, she brought out chips and salsa after I ordered, dang they were tasty chips too... I thought I said "to go," but since I don't speak spanish and she didn't seem to speak a ton of english, it was fine- just ended up eating it there, which was nice (side note, there's two reviews that mention "rude" service, perhaps it's b/c there's a language barrier- ease up and relax, ok? sheesh). Ordered a California burrito as I'm always interested in seeing what places have the best take on the ole Cali burrito- NOT disappointed, it was freaking solid! meat was perhaps minced a touch small but not an ounce of fat/gristle to be found, it was 100% bomb meat, seasoned right, moist but not greasy, fries were the same, and the cheese was melted (don't you hate it when it's not?). Guacamole (it's pronounced "wok-a-molay", not "gwak-a-mole-ee") was fresh and had just the right amount of lemon. Salsa was spicy but not overly so, which kept it from overpowering the great taste of the carne asada. all in all, def a winner, so this will become a staple of driving through Barstow (which I do all too often *~* ) read more

Thanks to Yelp I stumbled upon this cute little Mexican restaurant a couple miles off the freeway. When we arrived there was already a long line so I knew it was a neighborhood favorite. I ordered the deep fried burrito with shredded beef and the bf ordered a carne asada burrito. The total was only $13 and the portion size was huge! The shredded beef in my burrito was a little too salty but that is really the only complaint I have. *Bonus they also give you unlimited crunchy tortilla chips which you can dip in their special hot sauce if you dine in! read more
