I met Mikal when he took pictures for my friend's wedding 3 years ago. Since then, he has photographed 3 more of my friends' weddings and when I got engaged, I immediately contacted Mikal for a quote. I am from northern California but I was getting married in Las Vegas. Mikal sent me his wedding photography packages but since I didn't need all of the package features, he created a custom package for me with travel fees that was extremely reasonable (even cheaper than some photography quotes that I received from companies based in Las Vegas). After we signed our contract with Mikal, we had a phone consultation regarding our day-of wedding timeline. We expressed what was important to us and Mikal gave us really good insight how much time we might need for each of the events that we had planned for our wedding and how to maximize the time that we had with him. I was a little worried because we had only visited our wedding venue once and we weren't very familiar with the area and Mikal had never filmed there either but Mikal reassured us that we would find some good locations. The day of our wedding, Mikal & Kai (Mikal's day-of assistant) arrived early to our hotel to scout out a place for our first-look photo and for some of our bridal party photos. They met our videographer Richard and they were all able to work seamlessly together even though they had just met for the first time. Throughout the day, Mikal kept us on track with our timeline, captured all the important moments, and patiently maneuvered through a crowd of loud and energetic (some intoxicated) wedding guests. Looking back now, one thing that my husband and I really appreciated was being directed and told where to stand, look, and smile. We were both overwhelmed by everything going on that day and we really appreciated having a professional who kept us on track with our timeline, didn't ask us any questions, and just told us where to be and what to do. We received our final wedding edits less than 1 month after our wedding (I know, crazy turnaround time right?!?!). All of our photos were beautiful and they turned out better than we could've imagined. Now the hard part...going through all of the photos and choosing which ones we want to upload and have printed (the anxiety is real). This review is long overdue! My now husband Brian and I were looking for a photographer and we are so fortunate we found the AMAZING Mikal with LOKITM for our wedding on 11/11/2017! The price was very reasonable--I couldn't find a better package for a photographer of his caliber here in the Bay Area. We were also able to negotiate a group deal for Mikal to shoot our wedding here in Norcal along with my friend Maria's wedding the day before also here in the Bay Area. We had seen Mikal's work before when he photographed our friends' wedding in SoCal and knew how amazing his work was and wanted to book him immediately. We are so grateful he and Catherine were willing to travel up here to shoot our wedding and they were so professional, amazing and easy going. My experience with a photographer couldn't have been any better. My husband and I are very low key people and really would prefer to be who we are rather than trying to portray a magazine cover. We chose Mikal to do our engagement and wedding shoot. On both occasions, Mikal and his assistants (James and Julius) did an amazing job. Each of them are professional but very approachable. Our engagement shoot was done at the Japanese garden in CSULB--the weekend of graduation! So you can imagine how busy it was in the garden. We even spotted another couple getting their engagement shoot done too. But Mikal and James were able to pull through and photograph us as if we had the whole garden to ourselves! We were extremely lucky to have found such a great photography team in Mikal and Julius at Lok In The Moment. We met with at least 5 photographers and were reaching a point of desperation as all of them didn't give us the sense of being there to make our day special but rather to over charge and make a quick buck. However, during our first meeting with Mikal we instantly got the feeling that he was in it for us and really cared about what our vision was for our wedding and wedding pictures. Additionally, my wife instantly gave me the look of approval that this was our guy. Especially knowing the fact that unlike other photography studios, we were not only going to work with an assistant photographer but the actual person with their name on the Company Logo. We were able to speak openly and he would always be fully engaged to what my wife or I had to say. He walked us through all the various packages LOKITM had to offer and was helpful in making it fit within our budget. Looking through the sample albums he had available during our package review solidified our perception of Mikal and his work product and how much he cared. Our engagement shoot was at our alma mater and we had the time of our lives. Just like all the other couples, we started a bit nervous. We were lucky enough to work with Mikal under a 100 degree weather. He did photos and we filmed video. Even under the sweltering sun, he kept his cool, made sure our clients were comfortable and still came up with great photos despite the harsh light! What really impressed me was as he was leaving, he saw that the sun was setting and the sky was overcast. He immediately went back to our clients and asked them to pose for more photos outside because the lighting was much better. My friend purchased her photography package through a company that contracts out to photographers. After reviewing the portfolio of the photographer to which she was first assigned, we were all disappointed. It was not the artistic and poised style she had hoped for. We called to request a different photographer, and Mikal was assigned to her wedding. Mikal arrived about the same time as the videographers. They had never met, but they got along so well you would think they were all one team. This made for a smooth, fun, and fluid experience. Mikal took a lot of artistic shots. Recently, the photos came out and I was able to see them online. I thought they were wonderful. The bride liked the photos too, but was not as impressed as me.
