Grab yourself a paddle! I made a last minute trip to Columbia a week ago, and I hadn't tried much of C-MO's blossoming craft beer scene. Logboat was started to appear in Saint Louis, and for the most part, their stuff was pretty good. It was time to go to the source! The brewery is pretty close to downtown, but just a little off the main drag. My AirBNB host was running late, so I had to find something to do. Since LBC wasn't part of the downtown area, I made them my first stop. The setup is pretty conventional for a brewery/pub. However, they have a huge patio and outside area for warmer weather, which would be great for college students to enjoy after a long week of classes. Once inside, they have a bar with all the beers on tap, and through the windows behind the bar, you can see the inner workings of the brewery. The bartender was very friendly. I asked for a flight so that I could try as much as I could. They had all the staples: Mamoot British Mild, Lookout American Pale, Snapper IPA, and Shiphead Ginger Wheat. Some of the seasonals were Jerk Alert Double IPA, Haller-Tang Pale, and Snapper with Pineapple. Altogether, the beer is solid. There's not one that I don't like. I don't tend to enjoy wheats or ginger beers, but Shiphead is quite good. Mamoot is probably my favorite, but it's rare that I don't enjoy a British session. I'm not as big on the Snapper, but I was a huge fan of the pineapple variance. Like I said, everything is pretty darn good. You can find Logboat's beer in cans and taps around The Lou, but if you're C-MO, a trip to the brewery is a must for craft beer lovers! read more

I love logboat brewery! I recently moved to Columbia from Sacramento. The beer scene there is so amazing and I was sad to leave it. I first discovered snapper ipa from the grocery store and found it is by far my favorite IPA. I was thrilled to discover it was local! I was not disappointed when I went into the brewery to try a fresh snapper on tap. The whole place took me back to Sacramento with the large outdoor area for games and the comfortable indoor seating area made me fell right at home. Molly has been our bartender each of our visit and she is outstanding! She is friendly, super helpful when asking for advice on new beers to try and even remembered us from our previous visits I highly recommended Logboat brewery for delicious beer, a fun and chill place to hang out and warm and welcoming staff. read more

Stopped in for a couple of brews yesterday while in town visiting a friend. The bartenders were super friendly and chatty about the beers and also some local events. They gave us little pours of a few of their recommendations to try, and we each settled on a pint. They have a nice variety to suit your mood, and a really nice, cozy bar area with games to play. There's also a large outdoor seating area, which had a food truck set up. There was also a bags game and some shady spots under the trees. The outdoor area is very dog friendly. My sister lives in Columbia and I try to come and see her as much as I can. I live in Denver, and work in the craft beer business so visiting new breweries is always a destination thing for me. My sister thought I would really enjoy this brewery, and she was right! We came here on a Tuesday evening around 8. There was no parking in the main lot when we got there but we quickly found parking in the overflow lot right across the way. The outside area was HUGE! There are not too many tables for how big the space is, but we were lucky to find one. We started with a flight of a few of their different beers which were the year-round varieties. I really enjoyed the Shiphead Ginger Wheat. We decided to get a Shandy made with this beer after the flight and it was delicious! I see this being a stop for us when I come back to Columbia to visit family! read more

Been here a couple times. Always great beer and a great time. This review however is about the female bartender with beautiful dreadlocks. While I enjoyed my snapper I could not keep myself from staring at those flowing glistening locks. They were one of a kind. As the bartender engaged me in conversation it became almost impossible for me to restrain myself from touching these locks. Imagine a bunch of puppies tied to a string. How could you not want to touch that? I finally gathered the courage to ask her. And she said yes!!! Best day of my life. Cheers to you gorgeous lock bartender! Highly recommend. Who would have thought that one of the best bars would be in Columbia Missouri. They serve a fantastic selection of brewed beers, some local whiskey and wonderful mixed drinks (try the Turtle!). Our personal beer favorite was the Snapper (with Shiphead and Mamoot a tied second). On your first trip in, I would suggest trying a flight so you can pick your particular favorite. This brewery is so well thought out. It is beautiful inside with the wooden beams and great artwork on the walls. The glass windows showing in to where they brew is a great add to the atmosphere and fun to see. A really nice touch is in the ladies bathroom, each stall has a shelf for your drink and each sink also has a shelf (no worrying about leaving your drink unattended!). The outside of this brewery is also well thought out. There is bocci ball, corn hole game, and croquet courts. Plenty of room for kids and dogs to play while enjoying a cold adult beverage. While the brewery doesn't serve food, they do have food trucks outside on occasion. We have tried both the Biscuit truck and Taco Tuesday's (YUMM to both!). I highly recommend multiple trips to Logboat, many great drinks to try and a very, very fun atmosphere. (Due to the popularity of their beer, it can now also be purchased at the grocery stores in the area. It is canned on site at Logboat.) read more

Traveling across Missouri. I have had Logboat Beers and enjoy them. Thought we'd stop at the brewery. Wanted to know if they had food or not. Called multiple times and got a busy signal over and over. Finally got through only to have a recording state that they they don't answer the phone and that you should email questions. Ridiculous. Can't really email while driving nor get a quick answer. No food, but a food truck pulled up. I asked the bartender when they would start serving and he said he didn't know because he didn't even know it were going to be there. The beer was good, but getting to the bar is difficult as the stools are jammed together. It was very loud. Beer alone rates 4 stars but the phone issue and poor service drops it another star. read more

I attended a great small event in the upstairs area that we rented. The main thing I would suggest is playing the music quieter so we could chat. There was ample seating. It also would have been better if there were round tables utilized so we could mingle better instead of long ones. There were big windows that we could open which is important to have during a pandemic. It was a great opportunity to trial different beverages. read more

A great addition to Columbia! Getting a flight is the way to go so you can sample even more. We went during a cold day, so it was a little tight inside. This was a fun spot on a Thursday afternoon while visiting town. I'm sure it's even more so on the weekends! They have a nice variety of beers for just $5/ea. I tried the cider and the saison and liked both. They have several board games inside, so I'm sure it'd be easy to sped several hours here. My son, girlfriend and I visited log boat April 2nd late at night after we had our dinner in Columbia Missouri and we were absolutely Blown Away with fantastic service and great conversation from the two bartenders. Okay place. Beer is average. There just isn't a lot of breweries in Missouri (especially mid-Missouri) so there is no competition or knowledge sharing to elevate the craft yet. The jerk DIPA was overly boozy and lacked a real finish. The Amarillo by Morning was above average. Flat Branch was better. read more

Hands down my favorite bar/brewery/hangout spot in town. The beer and cocktails are consistently great, as is the service. With a wood stove in the cozy bar, cool art on the walls, and what I consider to be ideal bar lighting, this place rules in the chilly months. When the weather is warm, there is a massive fenced in yard with picnic tables and yard games. Bonus points for ample parking for cars and bicycles! Double bonus points for having nice, clean bathrooms. read more

Had a pretty good time. Was a bit different with the Kids and Pets being allowed and I'm not a huge fan of craft beer. However they did have Makers Mark so that was good with me. Didn't hang for long, it was loud and difficult to get the attention of the bartender. read more

Have been to Logboat twice now and both times were on the eve of the annual TriZou Triathlon in Columbia. I discovered Logboat last year when I was in Columbia to do my very first triathlon and I've always had my own little tradition of throwing back a pint or two the night before an event (i.e., my version of carb loading). First off, Logboat's venue is nothing short of awesome. It is tucked away in what I would call an industrial part of Columbia, yet it's just a few minutes away from the heart of Columbia and the Mizzou campus. They have a huge backyard like setting where people from all walks of life and age can be found hanging out. It is family friendly so there are kids running around burning off energy while mom and dad throw back some pints of what I consider some pretty good craft brew. I'm big on IPAs so I always get a pint of IPA or DIPA, but I always attempt to try few more by getting a flight. I have been to countless microbreweries and Logboat definitely wins my vote as far as its venue goes. The only downfall I can imagine is that Midwest winters are never very pleasant, and once the scorching Summer heat comes, the appeal of the outdoor yard may not be as appealing, but I can say, during the Spring and Fall, it's just about perfect. My only regret (for two years in a row now) is not being able to get one of the items from the Ozark Mountain Biscuit food truck. Some of the options look downright amazing (likely a few days worth of calories, but well worth it), but unfortunately I know something like that would not have been a good meal option the night before running a triathlon. I will definitely visit Logboat anytime I'm in Columbia and highly recommend. read more

This place has a lot to offer, between beer, bocce ball, washers, and horseshoes to list just a few, the inside of the place is very rustic looking. You can see the brewery from the bar, which makes this place even more interesting to visit. They have a huge outside area referred to as the court yard, but not too many places to sit. They do offer some picnic tables. I recommend bringing your own chair and posting up outside on a beautiful day and enjoying some micro-brewed beer. read more

Love craft breweries. This place has great vibes and excellent beer. The ginger wheat was perfect. I usually try several different beers at local breweries, but the ginger beer was to good not to get again. They need a food source here though. I was told they are working on getting food trucks here every night. Also, you can bring in food which is nice. COMO is definitely making a good name for itself and logboats is helping! read more

Traveling thru Missouri and spent the night in Columbia. Made a point to hit some of the microbreweries. Was very impressed with Logboat not only with the quality of beer but also the friendliness of the bartenders. I am a sucker for craft beers and supporting local businesses. I have been there a couple of times now and always enjoyed great beers and their fun atmosphere. The snapper is their staple for a good reason, but all their beers are different enough to please any beer lover's preference. Now that the weather is nice they often have the Ozark Mountain Biscuit truck there on Saturdays. It's a great place to relax or play some corn hole in their large grass area. If you don't like beer they offer different spirits; one of their house made drinks, that I highly recommend, is called Turtle Power, a refreshing mix of grapefruit juice, ginger beer, and vodka. read more

Ok let's keep it simple...no kitchen, just beer. Love it. Review of four beers: 1) Lookout Pale Ale - 5.5% ABV, 30 IBU - Logboat's attempt at an American Pale Ale. Meh! Good malt profile...good hop bitterness but the hop aroma and flavor tend to be very lacking. Methinks that maybe a good hop addition to the last part of the boil and of course a nice dry hopping addition to the secondary fermentation would go a long way to making this beer the absolute STUD of Columbia. Unfortunately the economics of the industry make those little details not cost-effective which puts this beer solidly on the mediocre category. Could be dominant with a little tweaking. 2) Firehouse Alley English Pale - 5.5% ABV, 32 IBU - Now we're getting somewhere! Soft and subtle and with a beautiful American twist by the use of 2-row malt, you get the great grainy favors of the malt alongside the delicate fruity esters of the yeast fermentation. Hop bitterness and flavor are very background-ish (new word...feel free to use it!). Typically you'd expect "in-your-face" fruitiness and nothing in the hops other than to balance it with bitterness, but this one has a bit less fruitiness than your typical British Pale and bit more of the American hop character but not so much that you lose the characteristics of the classical style. Well done guys! 3) Snapper IPA - 7.2% ABV; 65 IBU - Definitely in the American IPA genre but a bit unique in that, like their APA (Lookout) they tend to focus on malt, alcohol and hop bitterness. For some reason, this "miss" (meaning that it desperately lacks initial hop flavor and above all, hop aroma) seems to really work. The body is actually a bit light for the style and the finish ends in a nice, grassy hop flavor that is surprising when one considers how initially one-dimensional this brew tend to be on first taste. Keep working through the glass and you start to pick up a little fruity esters but never to the point where the malt and alcohol take second stage. Not sure what the strain of yeast is used here, but it really does work well with the balance of this beer. My initial reaction was to dislike this beer, but it finishes out really well and balance seems to be spot-on by the time one gets to the bottom of the glass. It may have something to do with being 7.2% alcohol, but hey whatever it takes, right? 4) Jupiter's Moon Double IPA - 8.3% ABV; 80 IBU - Ummm...what the hell? This beer has nothing going for it. Not sure what the goal was but if an enteric flavor is what they were going for then they succeeded. Really not pleasant at all. I expected something in the barleywine character (VERY malty, VERY hoppy in flavor and bitterness, warming from the high alcohol content)...none of the above. Thin body, little maltiness and the hops are all in bitterness, no balancing in flavor nor aroma. Looks like they made it big just to be big with little regard to flavor and aroma profiles. Don't bother. read more
