Service was a little slow but when we sat down there was only two other open tables, so it was understandable. Both the waitresses were very friendly and attentive, our coffee was never empty. My boyfriend ordered the special, which was b&g, eggs, hash browns and choice of meat- it was A LOT of food for $10! I went with the 2 eggs meal, which was still way more then enough. The waitress didn't know the difference between two different sauces, calling each one by the color they are. When asked to clarify she literally said "one is white and one is brown". Yeah, but what about the flavor? They both come from the same paper packet or what? The brown lived up to its color. The girl ringing me up straight up insulted me to my face then looked over my shoulder as I wrote out the charges on the receipt. She realized she had acted completely out of line and started backpedaling once she realized her and her partner were getting a less than 10% tip. She also tried to give me someone else's credit card and it took her about 10 minutes to tally up a receipt and give me the correct one. It has one of the widest selection of pies and ice creams I have ever seen so make sure to factor that into your choice of entrée. Have visited twice this month, and each time the food was delicious, waitress very attentive and we've left happy. Tuesday, I had the special - prime rib sandwich with grilled onions, mushrooms & cheddar cheese. My husband enjoyed the ham sandwich. The food looked just like a truth of advertising picture; sandwiches were huge, and delicious. The prime rib was thinly sliced and very tender. Tortilla soup and sweet potato fries were yummy too. Nothing can beat that Mushroom Bisque we had last time - that soup has a taste second to none. This little cafe offers big rewards in delicious foods and excellent service. Log Cabin Cafe - Cafes Near Me - Choteau, Montana

Over the years, I have eaten at the Log Cabin at least four times, which isn't bad as Choteau, Montana is not on my normal travel routes. I have never had a bad meal nor poor service, and last night's dinner was no exception. It's not the only place to eat in Choteau, but on a Friday evening, the parking lot was packed, and so was the restaurant. The waitress, seeing us looking around, told us to sit anywhere, but in truth there was only one table open, and it hadn't yet been cleaned from the last diners. We took it nonetheless, and a waitress immediately came over to clean the table. Before we could blink, another waitress was back with menus and took our drink order (two Pepsis and a hot tea for me). I mention the drinks because it is my experience that most US restaurants don't know how to serve hot tea. The Log Cabin does. Instead of giving me a cup of hot water, a small carafe of hot water, and a basket of tea bags, I was given an empty cup, the choice of tea bags, and a large tea pot full of hot water. That's the way it should be done. Our waitress was back almost immediately to take our order, and we had to ask for additional time as there were so many interesting choices on the menu. In the end two of us ordered the Steak Sandwich, and the third ordered the Chicken Veracruz. I always order my steaks "rare," and mine came cooked to perfection. My partner likes his medium to medium well, but his was closer to medium rare. They do warn you on the menu that they cannot be responsible for medium well or well done cuts of meat. The steak "sandwich" is actually a 10 oz ribeye served with sautéed mushrooms, your choice of potato or other side, and a slice of garlic toast. You also get your choice of soup or salad, and I chose the clam chowder while my partner chose a dinner salad. The soup and salad were back almost immediately, and we had barely finished eating our first course when the main course was put before us. All three of us thought the food was excellent as was the service. The clam chowder was almost as good as my mother's home-made version. I can't imagine what those complaining about the service faced, as the situations they mention have never been my experience. I wholeheartedly recommend the Log Cabin. My only "complaint" is that while I was getting acquainted with the people at the next table, my partner went to pay our bill and didn't get me the lemon pie I was looking forward to. But that is certainly not the fault of the restaurant or its staff. And as for the guy who claims the place is outside the NE entrance to Yellowstone, I have to ask, were you really at the Log Cabin in Choteau, Montana? Yes, it's on Highway 89, as is Yellowstone, but dude, you're a couple hundred miles from Yellowstone. One caveat. Yelp gives the restaurant a $$ designation. I would say that by rural Montana standards, this is not an inexpensive place to eat. The Friday surf and turf special was $32.00. Our 10 oz ribeyes were one of the least expensive menu items at $13.95, but the prices go up quickly from there. That said, it was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. And our friend loved his Chicken Veracruz. read more

Never know when it's open, you need to pack a lunch when you go there. You will have plenty of time to eat it and be hungry again before your food arrives. They seem to always be understaffed in the kitchen as well as the dining area. I have been in there more than once only because choteau is extremely limited. If passing through and not in a hurry, the food is ok, but if you are in a motorhome, I'd as soon just make a lunch at the park. read more

If you are passing through Chouteau, do not stop here. They blackball tourists.We went here for dinner at 4 p.m. on a weeknight with our 2 daughters. They sat us and took our order. Then, we waited an hour to bring us our food. When we saw the four gentleman next to us get their food first we asked why we hadn't gotten our food. The server/owner ignored us and wouldn't respond. Then, another 30 minutes later she slammed our food on the table and walked away dropping the check as she left in a huff. My five year old was still behaving, my eight year old was still all about manners and behaving as well. Then, my husband and I realized why they were soooo snobbish. We were from out of town. So, lesson learned. We bring our own food when we go through Chouteau. Save your dollar and spend it in Augusta where they welcome outsiders. read more

Sorry, but I disagree with those folks who gave the Log a high review. Been there twice now with nothing really exceptional to report about the food. This past (and last) visit was the worst. It took a half an hour to get the waitress to take our order, another half hour for the food (a plain hamburger and a salad), and then we had to go to the register to get our bill. Meanwhile, the place filled up and cleared out. Maybe they prioritize service favoring the locals? Who knows? Needless to say, not our favorite place. read more

We went for a road trip and were looking for lunch place, and a local person recommend us this place. This lunch ended up being an excellent experiences, and I was really happy that we stop by. I ordered homemade tomato soup and it was delicious. The small burger I ordered was OK. However, both of my friends had really good meals. The vegetarian sandwich was huge and yummy. they also had homemade pie, which looked really delicious, but too bad we don't have enough space for it. I would not give this restaurant 1 star!!! My husband & I have gone to this place twice now and have had to wait 15-20 minutes just to have a menu brought to us and we're sitting AT THE BAR! Our 2nd visit was July 10, 2016, we were told that we could sit anywhere. We chose to eat in the room with all the windows, it was another 20 minute wait. BUT, there was a couple come in after we sat for 15 minutes, they got a menu & drink order taken right away. I guess if you're not a local, you don't get prompt service. We will NEVER go back again even though our visit to Choteau will last about 2-3 months. The service SUCKS!!!!! This restaurant doesn't rate ANY stars. read more

Visiting family here in Choteau and they took us to Log Cabin for dinner. I had chicken fried steak and my husband had the roast beef sandwich. Both dinners were piled high with food! The roast beef sandwich was covered with big slices of roast beef. Hope to visit there a lot more until we leave in the fall. read more
