I stopped by the Erie Canal Discovery Center yesterday while I was in the Buffalo area. The site is…read morepart of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and is a fun little museum. The highlight of the center is the simulator, which begins with the audience sitting on benches listening to an actor portraying the architect behind the Flight of Five locks. He describes the canal construction process and the unique features of the Lockport portion of the canal before the screen partially retracts, leading the actor to beckon the visitors onto a mock-up of a packet boat. Once aboard, the screen closes again and a new video features one a canal worker describing the working of a lock as the video gives the impression of the boat rising. As the lock doors open, doors open in front of the boat so that visitors may step off and enter the exhibit space. Most of the exhibits are interactive, with buttons for children to push and little quizzes based on canal knowledge. There are some photographs of the canal under construction as well as a framed certificate from the Canal Collector's Office. The third floor houses the Charles Rand Penney Collection of historic Niagara County artifacts, which will be of great interest to those who enjoy local history. It is the one spot not designed primarily for children, but older children should be able to find some interest in the artifacts. After going through the museum, one can take a self-guided walking tour around Lockport by following Riley's Way: a map located in the discovery center. It's a fun place to have a day trip and a must-visit for those collection National Parks cancellation stamps.

Tour is 1 1/2 hours, first an outdoor walking tour of the lock and the history, then a 1/2 hour walking in the tunnel/cave and then a 1/2 hour boat ride. Wear sneaks cause you're on your feet most of the time. There is an amazing installation of bronze castings of life sized lock tenders that you can actually sit with. The travel stories app gives detailed information for history buffs. During the season it's incredible to see the boats go through the huge barge canal locks 34 and 35 right next to the historic flight of five locks which are being restored. Fitness enthusiasts can practice their hill runs and stair workouts. Lake effect ice cream, steamworks coffee, the lock tender brew pub and stooges stuffed burger bar are right there. And I think there may still be Pokémon go that pop up! The best part is that it's free to explore in so many ways. A perfect "3rd space."

At some point during my youth I realized…read morethat I could upgrade from the dinky shed of a library I'd read my fill of to this towering library that is three stories (badum tss) high. There is something for everyone, and I could seriously get lost combing the aisles for books all day. They have a media section as well, one that my friend sings praises over as she binges on new music and movies. And sometimes, when you're lucky, the first floor is flooded with old books looking to be rehomed. Don't wait for the sale, come explore, and keep coming.

For those of you not "in the know" like me, there's the big house, a giant metal building with ice skating and soccar and Craftsmen and quilts sometime, a daycare center, a garden, AND a cool theatre! It's in what used to be a carrage house, but now its a theater. Why do they have to have a special house just for carrages? Are babies really that special? Maybe, but a brick house just for them is a little rediculous. Maybe its' just me. Or is it you to? Anyways, it's' a cool theatr.

I don't know why this park never showed up for me before today. Finding the park itself is easy…read more Parking is a little trickier. I didn't see any other signs, but I had a hunch about the "Dead end" road across the street. The lot at the end of the road showed up on Google Maps. About a dozen spaces, too. The path leads to a boardwalk through marshland. Then you can choose to walk beside the meadow or explore paths in the woods. Eventually, it was a little too muddy for us, but I look forward to going back during the summer. The funny thing is when you leave the park, the back of the sign indicates the parking lot. Otherwise, it's a lovely well-kept park.

This well hidden nature preserve is nestled behind a local neighborhood. After reading a comment…read moreposted by another yelper, knew had to check this preserve out next time in the area. A background on how this became a nature preserve; the Lytle family back in 2008 donated this 112 acres of land. It's perfect for hiking or bike riding. Even though I came on a windy, muddy day after the rain still was a nature lovers oasis. The preserve is magnificent im sure in the heart of spring or middle of summer. One of Niagara county beautiful escapes for tranquility.

Recently attended a Cousins wedding in the barn for a fun night out.Great dancing area, nice bar…read moreservice and a tasty buffet provided. Have been to the winery many times and have enjoyed tastings of the pilot noir, sweet freedom rose, meritage estate and apple jack.Each of the wines bring out velvety tannins, rich aromas and fruity notes.Plenty on parking in their lot.
