Here's a toy store. No an ice cream shop. Or a candy store. Or a breakfast joint. Yet this schizophrenic shop still manages to draw a crowd. Hard candy is made in store. Ice cream is made in the store. Toy selection is quite limited, but suitable for 10 and under. Mostly stuffed animals, toy cars and a few squeaky toys. I can't comment on the breakfasts nor the ice cream sundaes. I can say I was disappointed in the size of the "double scoop". For $4+ I expected a larger scoop. The mint chocolate chip ice cream has good flavor, but it wasn't very creamy. The lemon sherbet was terrible. It had a chemical taste well before any lemon came through. Clearly an artificial flavor. And not a good one. One last point, albeit small. The menu board points out one free topping with a double scoop in a cup. The clerk didn't get the memo and charged an extra 50¢. Honestly, I think many store brands are just as good, but the selection of sundaes more than make up for it. Just avoid the lemon sherbet. read more

They serve local, when possible, items. coffee was freshly brewed Lucky Goat, sausage links were from Bradleys and even their grits were local - and delicious! Kids split the banana foster waffle, which was quite large, and they raved over it and their chocolate milk. It's crazy, but even the chocolate syrup is made in house, making the taste very unique and likely the best chocolate milk I have ever had. I ordered the meat and cheese omelette. The thing was crammed full of meats and cheeses. Glad I am not counting calories, as that would be hard to total up! I would definitely come here. again. We really enjoyed this place. When we first walked in, I was unsure this was where we should eat breakfast. (We're on a vacation, not from this area). The place kinda smells like cotton candy (not super strong, but pleasant). Waffles and pancakes had an interesting cornmeal-ish flavor and texture, which was really tasty. The French toast was perfectly cooked, very good. The bacon, oh, the bacon! Good and thick and oh so tasty! We loved the character of this place: breakfast, ice cream, toys. The toys were fun to browse through.. not just average toys, lots were novelty items. Fun! The staff was friendly too. The only thing we didn't like is that they still have a sign on the door stating masks are required, but refreshing to see that all of their customers are ignoring the sign. When my friends recommended bruch at Lofty Pursuits I thought they were crazy. Last time I was there they were still at the Timberlane Market Square and I thought they only served ice cream & candy. I was amazed at their new location and menu. They have parking in front and around the back with ample tables for dining outside. One of my friends had the bananas foster waffles, complete with ice cream, and I had the corned beef hash which was presented like corned beef and potatoes. It was so delicious I would love to have it for lunch or dinner. The servings are very generous and the servcice fast and friendly. Absolutely amazing. This is a hidden gem of tallahassee. Come for the breakfast/brunch and stay for some candy or ice cream. They have new candy all the time that is made in house using antique or classic style candy machinery. And don't get me started on the quality of food - absolutely top notch. The service is also great. And if you're lactose intolerant like me there is a dispenser you can get a lactaid pill from for 25¢ also they carry some pretty cool gifts for youngins to adults. When I had it the first time, I was blown away. Deff a must try! Besides the float, they have ice creams, home-made candies, and a ton of interesting hand crafted drinks. They have a chart on the wall that helps you decide what the desirable drink is to you based on your preference. That's pretty awesome. The store is old school with board games and quirky souvenirs. I recently heard that they even had a community band, say what?! I'd say it's a cool spot to chill or hang out with friends. The best part is that it's in my hood. Stopped by here on our way through the panhandle. They are easy to reach right off of I-10. Had lunch and grabbed some killer candies. For lunch, I had a BST (bacon, spinach, & tomato) and my husband had a Reuben with a side of potato salad. The meat was partly shredded and partly sliced. It was not your normal style Reuben meat, but it was very good. The BST had a decent amount of thicker bacon on it. Husband got to talk to Greg, the candy maker, and watch him make some candy while we were there. He is an incredibly interesting individual who was very nice and willing to share information with us and answer my husband's multitude of questions. Loved, loved, loved the candy. Got the sugar free Sour Cherry & sugar free Black Currant and then a bag of Banana. All 3 of them were excellent. And with the sugar free you did not get that chemical taste you sometimes get with sugar free candies. I really wish we were closer. Those candies were something I wish I could always have on hand. They also have a great ice cream set up. We were both full from lunch, but wanted ice cream. They offer a Nano size cone that was perfect to just hit that spot. No idea how this place scores anything above a 1 star. Terrible quality of food and small portion sizes. We were expecting a small cafe experience in terms of both service and food and got neither. Crispy hashbrowns somehow translated to burnt and inedible. This carried to the bacon as well and the sausage contained within the world's smallest omelette. If the food quality wasn't bad enough, the family and I decided it was best to just leave and cut our losses when we witnessed the cook vaping!! I have been following Lofty Pursuits online for several years- their candy making videos using traditional Victorian methods are calming and deeply enjoyable. When I found myself displaced to Tallahassee because of Dorian, I figured I'd look up the shop and stop in. Boy am I glad I did! I came in for brunch, but will certainly be back for their ice cream and soda counter. Their brunch is a good mix of breakfast and lunch classics; I had the biscuits and gravy, which was delicious (you could tell the biscuits were made fresh in house!). It is obvious how much care and attention the staff puts into their shop and their food. Staff were cleaning the windows (which weren't all that dirty) to make sure the shop looked it's best, and the smell of homemade chocolate ganache being mixed behind the counter made everyone's mouth water. Waited some more and then a little longer. Husband went to counter to check on order. Was told we were "next up". Another 15-20 minutes goes by (at this point we've been there an hour and a half) and everyone we know who was behind us has long been served food. Finally tracked down a manager and got a refund. How long does it take to cook two eggs and thrown gravy on already cooked biscuits?!? Food might be great but guess we'll never know. Two hours of our life we will never get back. What a cute little shop! I had always known Lofty Pursuits, at least when it was located in the Lake Ella district, for its sale of games and what was popular back then: yoyos. I didn't realize they also served ice cream! Now that they have moved to Market Square, I visited every now and then but never for ice cream. This time we came here specifically for the ice cream, and the fact that they have games you can play while you eat! When you walk in, you see the parlor on the left side, and shelves of board games and card games on your right. Yoyos and diabolos are on the left corner near the entrance. A few drawers are labelled to notify you of the games available for play. We opened one and found Settlers of Catan (an expansion version of it), an assortment of cards, Jenga, and others I blocked out of my memory since I was so focused on Settlers. In the end, we just played cards since we didn't have much time. I ordered a junior ice cream cone ($2.25), which comes with one scoop of ice cream. I ordered the Cherry Explosion, I believe was the name, I can't remember it for the life of me anymore. Some sort of Cherry Chocolate Chip, essentially. It left something to be desired... I was hoping for some real chunks of cherry in it, not just chocolate chunks. It still hit the spot for some darn good ice cream for very cheap! If I had more time in town, I would have stayed here all day, eating nano size ice cream cones ($1.00) and playing Settlers of Catan. read more

Not family friendly at all. I was very disappointed. The 2 people making candy where the only ones who where friendly and had any type of costumer service skills. I normally don't write reviews but I had to because it was so awful. There was a man wearing daisy duke shorts and a t shirt that showed his whole stomach. Not something that should be worn at a family place. Also there was multiple people unloading merchandise laughing and making fun of Jesus. I get Christianity isn't for everyone just doesn't seem like something that should be talked about in that kind of setting. We drove 2 hours out of our way to come here. Has some good things, but nothing that compels me to return often. Practically every employee I've seen here seemed miserable and uninspired. I've noticed alot of employee turnover, a bad indicator in a field that should be handing down candy-making techniques. I'm not sure if the turnover is because of poor management, bad hiring practices, underpayment, or what because I never want to speak to the sad sacks behind the counter. Even worse than the employee morale are the customers. They just ogle and mess with everything, being generally obnoxious. Then they descend and flock like starving buzzards when free samples are offered, in what I presume is an attempt to get them to purchase something instead of loafing about poking at antiquated rubbish for hours. Summarily: A more boring Willy Wonka, with even grumpier and frumpier oompa loompas, and visitors more despicable than Augustus Gloop or Veruca Salt. read more
