It's also a tiny store and gas station

I think the best way to describe this place is a back woods diner. The restaurant part is small, just 5 tables in the main dining room and a few more outside. It is family run and features a nice selection of hearty chow. We stopped in for breakfast with my wife ordering the breakfast sandwich and me, the Fur Traders French Toast with sausage links. It took a little more time than one would expect given that it's just breakfast, but the food arrived after around 10-15 minutes and was hot. Perhaps the glowing descriptions on the menu set the bar too high in my mind, but the French toast was about what you'd make yourself at home; nothing too special. It's a great local place for basic hearty food.

A solid stop while vacationing on the North Shore for a quick breakfast when staying near Tofte. Welcoming owners and good food! We typically stop here in the morning before hiking or snowshoeing. Their oatmeal and Lockport Hiker hit the spot and give you a great base before getting out into the Superior Hiking Trail.

This is the best treasure I have found yet on my many trips up north and little treks to find cool places. Lockport has been around for 100 years and it looks like a little old gas station from the outside. It however is not run down or closed down. I learned about Lockport from 2 local at different bars. Its a rave with the locals. In fact as it turns out when my mom worked at lutsen 30 years ago she used to go to Lockport with friends for supplies. They do have supplies. It has an old world 1920 general store feel with more than the little things you need. They have fresh pasties, gourmet coffee and fresh on site baked goods. The current owner has been there 16 years. If you go there go before 2pm. Go in the front door and walk to the back . There is a little rustic dining room with 4 tables. Its cozy and the food is simply great. It came in an old blue metal camping plate with chips in it. For me it added to the charm to be served on old camping style blue plated metal . I loved the food and the charm of the place. The owner was great and talked to us for 10 min about the history of Lockport. Its a sure place not to miss on a trip upnorth. Great food, warm comfort and some Minnesota history.

Annual tradition for our family. Love the blueberry scones, great coffee! Considering the size of the store, wonderful grocery selection.

Lockport Market is a wonderful place to stop on the way north: excellent espresso, supplies, and warm welcome and atmosphere.

The owners, Nan and Deb, are usually around, either in the kitchen, at the cash wrap, or chatting with customers.

It's off the beaten trail and the north shore but the local people are friendly and the store is well stocked. There is gas at the location as well. Some items are a bit more expensive than you may be used to, but you won't be disappointed. I recommend visiting this establishment.

The only down sides are the cramped aisles and small variety -- they have a lot of products, but not many different brands, as fits their patrons' needs. The staff are friendly and helpful, though, so I strongly encourage a stop. If you are in the area, I recommend buying a Superior Forest map at the co-op. They cost around $10 (I got a waterproof one), but they will show the trails and dirt roads that will help you figure out where things are. On-line maps are not reliable at placing things in this part of Minnesota; for example, this co-op is actually a mile or two south of the bridge over the Baptism river.
