So many choices at this lovely store front scratch bakery. I narrowed my choice to the croissant egg bake. Flaky, buttery, cheese, bacon and egg. The golden brown flaky crust was perfect. It filing and I didn't want it to end. I also had cafe au lait. They do roast their own beans. Popular choices were sticky buns. Carrot cake. Everything is presented so enticing. Trying more tomorrow.

Caramel Roll - perfect treat to have on the trail!

So many delicious options, but I have to always get the caramel roll. Picked up some treats on our way up to Thunder Bay to hike Sleeping Giant

A very good selection of pastries to pick from and a good coffee offering too. I had the almond croissant which was right out of the oven and so incredibly good. Probably the best one I've had, and I've tried many! The trail cookie is also delicious (think carrot cake). I sure did wish later on our hike that I had one! We tried the artichoke boat which was good, the seasoning could be a bit salty but that's common with everything seasoning. Definitely a must stop in Grand Marais!

Mmm so many fabulous breakfast pastry possibilities.

Since leaving this review, we've been back numerous times. I'm a huge fan of their jalapeño cheddar sourdough. The gluten-free flourless chocolate torte ranks up there with the best of its kind anywhere in the world. The coffee specials are always worth trying. If you're not a coffee person, you (or your kiddos) can always try their flavor combos in a steamer.

Crosby bakery just opened up in Grand Maris. They have a large assortment of pastries, cookies, coffee and cakes. The croissant we got were buttery flakey and delicious. I highly recommended stopping in for a morning treat

Charming modern coffee house with the most delicious baked goods made in house. I ordered the Coconut Cream Cold brew and it was light, refreshing with a hint of cream. Also ordered the Ham/Gruyere croissant and a Danish with a cream cheese and raspberry preserve pillow. These were fantastic, buttery and a perfect addition to a stroll along the lake. Parking was easy to find either on the street or the lot across the street. They are open daily from 7:30-3p- 10/10, check them out!

Adorable bakery and coffee shop in Grand Marais! I was actually heading towards the donut shop but saw the variety of baked goods in the window and thought I would give this shop a try since I hadn't been in here before. I AM SO GLAD I DID!! I ordered a latte and the carrot cookie for my husband & I got myself a caramel roll. The caramel roll was HUGE! I got full 2/3 way through but I'm no quiter so you can bet I hung out until my plate was clean! It had more of a butterscotch flavor than caramel but delicious nonetheless and sooo fluffy and not hard at all. My husband enjoyed his coffee but was RAVING about the carrot cookie. He doesn't typically like frosting so I was a bit worried (it's a bit like an oatmeal creme pie but with carrot cake cookie) but he said it was the perfect ratio of cookie to frosting. He let me have "one bite only" and made me instantly regret only ordering one. I would agree it was a perfect ratio and had incredible packed flavor that really does taste like carrot cake!

Can you give a restaurant 100 stars? Great addition to Grand Marais. Truly delicious bakery. Everything we tried was top notch. Amazing.

Love, love, love this cute bakery! There's a variety of delicious pastries and desserts. The staff is friendly and service is prompt. The decor is elegant and cozy - you can definitely get comfortable here. Highly recommended and we will be back the next time we are up north!

Excellent drinks and cute space. My partner got the mocha and he said that it was perfectly mixed and delicious. I got the iced matcha and it was the perfect balance of sweetness and matcha bitterness. I definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

This place is awesome. Super cool decor and legit baked goods, coffee, sandwiches. Had the Carmel roll and picture below is about 1/3 of original size of roll. I tore into it before photo. Great stuff here!

Pain au Chocolate

Fantastic pastries and baked goods! The croissants and scones are especially good. The coffee was also very good. We also liked the atmosphere with the walls covered with original art work from (mostly?) local artists.

Amazing new bakery in the spot that had nothing in it for a long time. My first stop was after they've been open for 4 days and I got one of their fresh baguettes. It was very dense and wholesome in a very nice baguette to accompany my walk around lake Superior. I will be back again and can't wait to try everything on the menu they have nice places to sit lots of desserts and lots of nice coffee options.

I've been coming here for years on an annual family trip. The first year i think i was…read moreunderwhelmed, but every year I've learned a little more...it's about picking the right donuts for you. They're so subjective. I have gotten the skizzle twice and always been underwhelmed. Powdered sugar donut is where it's at for me and my husband. This last trip I learned that the donut kabob is definitely kid friendly / travel friendly. Chet's best is also disappointing for us given how enticing it looks. I think I'll try one of the cream ones (white bismark with raspberry jelly) or a maple long john next time. It's always worth the trip. Lines can be long but if you go early as we do they usually aren't bad.

One of the towns we visited on our trip to Lake Superior was Grand Marais (Minnesota). Walking…read morearound, I saw this small shop with a sign that said World's Best Donuts. I had to test out their claim the next morning. I waited in the short line and found a delectable section of fried dough topped with a creative assortment of sugars. There was even a tray of donuts called "Chet's Best" (I learned that is the name of the proprietor's father - and mine too). I chose the Skizzle (basically fried dough dipped in sugar) and a Cinnamon pull-apart. The Skizzle definitely was a contender for one of the best donuts I have ever tasted. The Cinnamon bun I also ordered was more dense than I enjoy. I believe I'll have to taste more of their creations before I can truly give into their claim. But I would not hesitate to stop by if you're in town and choose one or two for your own sweet snack.

I love the quaint aesthetic and furniture, the ample seating, the friendly baristas, the inviting atmosphere, the drinks, and the baked goods. The croissants (Saturdays only) and the blueberry ginger loaf (gluten free) are TO DIE FOR. Seriously, so yummy, I didn't even know the loaf was gluten-free the first time I got it.. I would love to know the recipe! As for their drinks, I usually get an Americano which is consistently good. But I've also gotten a latte and mocha (made with real chocolate) before and they were also wonderful. Best of all, all proceeds from their sales go towards supporting the women's shelter. I love supporting this business.

What's extra cool is that it's inside a beautiful church with beautiful stained glass windows and the employees are actually volunteers who give their time and the profits go to the church to be used for the community (apparently they're building a youth community center in town). I don't go to church, but it was so peaceful being there. It's definitely an experience--not your typical coffeeshop visit. I wish we had a church-coffeeshop-bakery all in one where I live. My only complaint is, okay two actually: 1) have a plastic lid that covers your baked goods from the flies 2) please don't play the same playlist--even if it was pretty music--every day; I was there every day for a week and was almost going out of my mind, haha.

And for me, part of the experience is slowing down to enjoy the moment. No small part of that enjoyment comes from drinking my coffee in a proper vessel. It could be a ceramic coffee cup, or a bowl, or a heavy glass, or a demitasse cup on a saucer. Different shops can have their own style, but if you refuse to serve a well crafted drink in something other than paper, that's an issue for me. Especially when the proper cups are right there! I see them. And I get that washing dishes can be a pain in the neck, but coffee shops can charge what they charge for beans and water because they are providing an experience. Sorry. Thanks for hearing me out. Beyond that, this place is lovely. The people are friendly, which should not be a surprise in Minnesota. The cortado was good, but hard to fully appreciate or evaluate in its sad little paper cup. My family was happy with their drinks. And the outdoor space is simply magical. This is a tucked away little modern coffee oasis in a remote part of Minnesota and I'm very glad it exists and can provide me and others the energy boost needed after hours of nature walks in the area.

The cafe had better vibes for chatting rather than for working / studying. I was hoping there would be more of a baked goods selection (they seem to carry the Donut Run's baked goods sometimes), but when I got there later in the afternoon, there was only one type of cookie left and it wasn't very appealing to me. So I was very excited to see that the Thunder Bay tradition of very cozy coffee places where you could come and study, read or catch up with friends still existed. The waitress at the counter was very friendly and very professional. She told us that we could go sit down anywhere and she'd bring our drinks out to us. I ordered a vanilla cafe latte. It came out in a nice large mug and was really tasty, better than what I've had at Starbucks and Second Cup. They had a large selection of other hot drinks and cold drinks, and some tasty looking snacks on the counter (which I proudly managed to ignore this time around). I had a medium latte, which was priced around $3.50. The decor was very nice and relaxing. I loved the warm dark colors that made for a really nice, seclusive environment. My only complaint is that there were only three booths in which to sit at. All three were occupied when we arrived; two of which by one individual each. It'd be a lot nicer if they had a couple more booths on the opposite wall since I much preferred sitting at them than sitting at the individual tables. With really wide table-tops, it looks like an awesome place to go to get some work done without interruption. I'll definitely go back here next chance I get.
