Meadow Lea Farm Coffee Shop - This local farm added a café about six months ago I heard.

I was introduced to Black Pudding, an acquired taste for even the English- pigs blood and intestines mashed into a hockey puck. I have nothing to compare it to but a taste of it was good for me. It was crispy, soft like pudding and a bit sweet. I opted for the tuna panini which was terrific. I read it came with chips which I figured were fries but got actual potato chips which was fine I guess. Michael said his All Day Breakfast was spot on except for the sausage which he described as cheap or watery. The other lads said there's were fine and devoured it spite being hung over. Before breakfast I asked to walk past the gates to witness the sprawling fields. I was welcomed with a bit of apprehension and took a few photos as you may see. Apparently no one asks to go back into the farm. I breathed in the cool air and appreciated the beauty of the English horizon. I was met by the owner, Bill Williams, in a tractor who stopped me to have a bit of a chat. He is a funny man when he said the view was "alright" and there wasn't much to see. I learned the farm was 400 acres and how he had a kick travelling the California coast line several years ago. When I return to Chester I will be sure to come back and eat here and say hello.

At the restaurant we have had their burgers and they are one of the best I've ever had! This visit we had a light lunch at the shop's food bar and again it was delicious and the coffee superb! Their customer service was outstanding especially when confronted with a difficult a customer... not me. Came away with lots of goodies and a fab Grapefruit Gin - Malfy. Will definitely visit again!

Its a big place with a cafe/restaurant, farm shop and a barn "shop" - which is currently a Christmas barn. Not sure what it would be when its not near Christmas. Although it was still October when I visited, and still seems a bit early (ish) for Christmas stuff and especially a whole barn of it. But it was really nicely decorated and lots of nice stuff. Almost enough, but not quite, to get me into a Christmas mood. Since it was near Halloween, there were lots of pumpkins about outside. I liked also how they sold "mis-shaped" pumpkins - so less waste. Still perfect to use if you wanted to use to make e.g. soups. We didn't go into the cafe but it was very busy with several people waiting for a table. The actual farm shop was big with fresh meats, lots of veg, cheese, a deli counter etc. Lots of lovely stuff. And also lots of samples of free food - brilliant. Samples of crisps, breads, cheese scattered all round the shop. Really nice place and if you are in the area, I recommend popping in.

They served up a fantastic matcha latte, and Liz got a cappuccino. I thought this place was a fine place to eat breakfast, or if we wanted to get a coffee or tea to go. Liz and 'Em had pancakes... although it looked like smaller portions they were filled quickly. I had a morning brekkie with meat, which came with toast, bacon, a small tub of beans, roasted tomato and spinach, and toasted eggs. It was all pretty delicious. The server offered sauces (hot sauce or ketchup). I was pretty content with the food. All types of folks come in and all are treated the same. If you're up around the area - or on the way to the World Museum, stop by.

My friends and I were greeted very warmly as we arrived and got to choose where to sit. Then we ordered at the counter. You can see everything being made there. All items used are local, which I love. There are vegan and vegetarian options as well. Cute little menu with the right amount of stuff on their for breakfast or lunch. They also have cakes! Variety of toasts, bagels, French toast, coffees, teas, other drinks. Everything at great prices! I always leave that place satisfied and with happy tummy!

First stop was Matlock - cute little village, powerful river flowing though town, nice views all around. We wanted to have lunch but hadn't really seen anything and so we decided to head to Bakewell (about 20 minutes drive) when I noticed a classy, inviting, purple sign by the road "The Orangery". We quickly turned around and are so glad that we did! We had a really GREAT lunch and have already booked again for Christmas Eve when our daughter and new husband visit. It may sound odd but it used to be part of a very prestigious school for over a century - the most famous "Old Girl" was Richmal Crompton who wrote all the "William" books that I devoured as a kid. Now the whole complex is basically a old peoples home (Man are they lucky!!). So the lunchgoers were, on average, grey haired (but I am going that way too) - but it was fairly quiet in terms of lunchgoers and music (just the right volume - Christmas songs, Wham and many many more of the favorites. The restaurant drips class, the bistro also (full bar). A wide selection of offerings _ I seriously wanted the prawn curry but got lured into a Christmas special. Wonderful staff, great food, excellent service - and beautiful nooks for a quiet or romantic lunch. Try it you'll like it! Two big thumbs up Review #108 2019
