Meadow Lea Farm Coffee Shop - This local farm added a café about six months ago I heard.

I was asked if I ever had a proper English breakfast so we came to this relatively new café that's…read moresix months old. I was introduced to Black Pudding, an acquired taste for even the English- pigs blood and intestines mashed into a hockey puck. I have nothing to compare it to but a taste of it was good for me. It was crispy, soft like pudding and a bit sweet. I opted for the tuna panini which was terrific. I read it came with chips which I figured were fries but got actual potato chips which was fine I guess. Michael said his All Day Breakfast was spot on except for the sausage which he described as cheap or watery. The other lads said there's were fine and devoured it spite being hung over. Before breakfast I asked to walk past the gates to witness the sprawling fields. I was welcomed with a bit of apprehension and took a few photos as you may see. Apparently no one asks to go back into the farm. I breathed in the cool air and appreciated the beauty of the English horizon. I was met by the owner, Bill Williams, in a tractor who stopped me to have a bit of a chat. He is a funny man when he said the view was "alright" and there wasn't much to see. I learned the farm was 400 acres and how he had a kick travelling the California coast line several years ago. When I return to Chester I will be sure to come back and eat here and say hello.

Absolutely 5 star in every respect. Glorious food served by friendly staff in clean and welcoming…read moresurroundings. The sight of a log burner roaring away is a marvellous sight on a cold winter morning.

Moose Coffee - Avocado toast

Moose Coffee

During our recent stay in Liverpool, we found Moose nearby (thanks to Yelp)! We were craving some…read morecoffee and brunch before the busy day we had ahead, and this spot delivered. From what we learned, Moose is a small chain around the UK, and known for its hearty North American-inspired menu. Definitely true - the menu had plenty of US classics like benedicts, pancakes, waffles, and hash dishes. I was actually surprised by how many things were available, as the cafe itself wasn't all that big. Small enough even that we couldn't even get a seat inside! No problem at all though, as we were instead able to sit in their outside area which lined a cute cobblestone alley, adjacent to some shops. I've said it before, and I'll say it again for the typical American traveler... in England, do NOT expect service to be what you're used to. You'll certainly wait to be tended too, and the visits from a server are very limited. In no way do I mean this as a complaint, it's actually kind of nice to not feel rushed and practice patience :) All in all, the staff who did take care of us were very sweet! My husband had an americano and I enjoyed my flat white (I swear I've loved every coffee I've ever had during England trips). For food I got the lula puebla, which was a fancy avo toast. The smashed avocado was fresh and well-seasoned, and the toasted sourdough it was smeared across was so thick and delicious. Even more delicious was the chipotle chilli jam that came atop of it. It also had feta, chilli flakes, and two poached eggs. I was definitely a fan! My husband also really liked his eggs benedict that included griddled Serrano ham. I know, I know, travel all this way only to have a US-style breakfast but hey it did the trick! Wouldn't hesitate to pop in another Moose location in the future.

My husband and I had one sweet and one savory but we went impressed. We had egg Benedict three different kinds in one plate but taste was okay. The sweet one was just okay. Service was good

However, this place wasn't all that bad, though it is more like one of those cafes that you tend to find in the city than elsewhere (though you do find some pretty good ones in the city). However, I did really like this place, the service was pretty good, as was the pot of tea I got. The only thing that disappointed me was that they used ham for the eggs benedict as opposed to bacon.

It was absolutely chock full of very happy looking customers and there was a whole lovely new back room that I'm pretty sure wasn't there last time I was. The service was speedy despite the long queue and the staff friendly despite how busy they clearly were. The decor is lovely, my favourite elements being the giant chandelier and the vintage piano. The atmosphere was really pleasant; the overall vibe of the place manages to convey cool classiness and warmth at the same time. Although the bread of the mozzarella and chorizo panino I ordered was a little floppy and the chorizo a bit a bit too chewy it was tasty nevertheless and the tea I ordered was just right (and with me being such a tea fan you don't often hear me say that!). The cakes looked delicious as well...wish I'd had room for a slice! Will definitely be saving space for the chocolate and Guiness next time! I'm very glad I've rediscovered this hidden gem above Lord Street and will definitely not be leaving so long till my next visit this time.
