The "Locanda" was recommended as an authentic Italian Restaurant. Reservation went smoothly and the waiter remembered the phone call and we had the choice of two tables. The outside seating area was nice too, with a great view of the "Schlossplatz".
The inside is decorated tastefully, with a full bar, cocktails and (pro tip!) Happy Hour! It was quiet enough to have a conversation and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering it's a prime location in this quiet university town.
But most importantly: how is the food? Well, it was very good! I always like to try the Bruschetta, because while the Pizza is often good, the Bruschetta often isn't. Here it was very good! You get three slices of bread with a generous topping of diced tomatoes, arugula, pesto and freshly grated parmesan. There were large pieces, so it way grated manually from a fresh block. Nice!
The main entree was pizza, and it looked great! The waiter had warned us that their pizzas were large, and they were! The dough was crispy and the crust was chewy, just the way I like it. One thing I didn't like was that the pizza was so large, that it touched the table. Big pizzas are great, but bigger plates to match would be awesome. I don't know how well they clean the tables, but I'd rather eat off a plate than off the table. My second complaint is the sparsity of the topping. There is very little salame on the pizza salame. I'd rather have a slightly smaller pizza and a little more topping. Tip: maybe order some extra topping. But other than that, the pizzas were good, and too large to finish. Another tip: they offer half/half pizzas, it's large enough to feed two and leave some room for dessert. That an idea for the next visit... read more
