Very quiet and pleasant place to live. Close to downtown, restaurants, and parks. I have live there for 2 years and become friends with some residents. Locale is the perfect place to live.

My wife and I have lived at Locale for the last ~2 years and it has been the best rental experience we have ever had by far. The building is impeccably maintained with an awesome security system for guests / deliveries, the staff are all super friendly and helpful, the location is so convenient with easy access to downtown Redwood City and 101 and the unit itself (530) was incredible - really high vaulted ceilings, tons of natural light, modern appliances (e.g. bathroom mirrors have Bluetooth speakers!), and we had zero issues with anything in the unit. As an added plus, if anything does go awry, the maintenance manager lives in the building and is very responsive. We will miss living here a lot and would have absolutely stayed we weren't moving to another city. Special shout-out to Julie, Osvaldo and the rest of the staff for making our 2 years here easy and carefree!

    I rest my case.

Save your money and look elsewhere. Noisy - The walls are thin, and the ceiling even more. Living here feels like sharing a house with an entire family of 4-5 or even 7 people. You hear TV, music, chatting, etc. We would accommodate some noise at day time, that's understandable. But some neighbors don't respect quite hours. TV has to be loud late at night, they don't care and there's little to no respect of community rules. Management doesn't enforce these rules either: they'd rather let tenants suffer than give noisy people a notice that they have to respect the rules. To make matters worse, the fire alarms that they have installed throughout are extremely sensitive and are mistakenly triggered at least a few times every quarter. There have been numerous instances where the fire alarm has rang incessantly for HOURS. If you find that hard to believe, do yourself a favor and peruse the Redwood City FD log (https://beta.firedispatch.com/log#) -- it's all there. Not being able to get a good night's sleep started affecting our work, etc, and in the end it was untenable. Dirty - Looks can be deceiving. Although the aesthetics look appealing, beneath that thin veneer lies a rotting core. I've lost count of the number of times the elevator door would open and there would be a pool of dog piss (occasionally poop). Who are these people that leave that in the elevator? Also the supposedly lovely roof top deck that's supposed to be a nice amenity constantly has dog poop. EVERYWHERE. It's truly repulsing.

My private patio off the living room, adjacent to the courtyard.

I've lived at Locale for almost 3 years after previously living for a couple of years at a different high amenity apartment complex in Redwood City. I have nothing but good to say about the Locale property and management of same. Locale is owned by a local company and the property manager lives on site, to the benefit of residents. Locale is clean, safe and well maintained. The courtyard, rooftop patio, club room and fitness center are all super nice. I am fortunate to have a ground floor unit with a private patio adjacent to the courtyard, which is pleasant and quiet. The cost of utilities has been much fairer at Locale than at the other apartment complex I lived at. The way mail and packages are delivered/securely stored at Locale is well done. 5 stars!

If I could give Locale 6 stars, I would! Heck.. if I could give them 10 stars, I would! But let's go back to the beginning - My fiancé and I learned that we were going to be relocating to the Bay Area from sunny South Florida & I was all about this move - I always knew that I was meant to be a California Girl! We have moved from state to state several times now and knew we would only have two {maybe three} days to fly to our new destination and go apartment hunting. We had done our research and knew that we wanted to be in the Redwood City, San Mateo, Palo Alto area as it was going to be close to his new office. After seeing the cute downtown area in RWC {Redwood City}, we knew it was where we wanted to be - We like convenience and all of the communities in RWC are walk-able to everything - downtown, local boutiques and grocery stores {Whole Foods & Safeway} and fantastic restaurants. Plus, 101 is a hop, skip and jump away. Upon arriving in CA for of weekend trip of apartment hunting, we had a list of the communities that we wanted to see. We had toured and toured and toured - and even though we saw absolutely beautiful communities in the area, there wasn't a place that wow'ed us enough to want to call it home - Then we found Locale. As soon as we walked in, Audra greeted us with a warm welcome and a friendly smile. She took the time to show us several apartments (and even circled back so that we were able to see some of the same ones for a second time) - Her patience and welcoming personality immediately made me feel comfortable and knew we would be well taken care of if we ended up choosing Locale. As soon as we finished with Audra, my fiancé and I just looked at each other and said "this is it"! It felt like home. From the tour to the move in process to the actual day of move in, Audra and Julie {the fantastic Community Manager} were right on point and made sure the move was as seamless as possible. And after meeting Ileana {their amazing Leasing Specialist}, Osvaldo {the phenomenal Maintenance Supervisor} and the rest of the Maintenance team - I knew we picked the right spot. Each and everyone of the team members makes you feel right at home, is very communicative with anything happening with the community, keeps the building spotless at all times, gets to know you on a personal level {you're not just another apartment number} and goes above and beyond to be sure the residents are nothing but happy in their home. They truly have The A Team! The apartments are absolutely beautiful - Light wood cabinetry, soft grey wood flooring, grey granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and large walk-in closets. They have several different floor plans to choose from - Studios, one and two bedrooms - Each one has it's own special feature of what makes it unique {personally..the built in wine storage was a huge seller}. We chose a 1 bedroom {The Hamilton}, on the second floor with an exterior facing view and we could not have been more pleased with our choice. We loved that the space was so peaceful - Aside from running into a neighbor or two from time to time in the elevator, it was so quiet and serene - The perfect place to come home after a long day at work. If amenities are your thing, Locale has that covered as well - Fantastic gym, beautiful Clubroom, an outdoor courtyard decked out with corn hole & a gorgeous Rooftop Deck {w/ a hot tub, two TV's, a grill, plenty of comfy lounge chairs and a shuffle board table} - We spend tons of time soaking up the sun on the Rooftop Deck. Common areas are beautifully decorated for each season {think.. Christmas tree's, Scarecrows, Pumpkins} and the Locale team hosts a number of events {Brunch, Fight Night, Holiday Parties & Breakfast on the Go.. just to name a few} for the opportunity to get to know your neighbors - Such a wonderful idea! Sadly, we recently had to leave Locale and relocate a bit closer to our new offices {the Bay Area commute from RWC to San Jose was killing us}. Otherwise, we would have stayed at Locale for the duration of our time in Cali. We loved our time living here and I think you would as well - I highly recommend checking out Locale if you are looking for the perfect new place to call home! It is the epitome of beautiful, luxury living!

    kitchen island :)

Well-run luxury apartments with amazing service and upscale amenities! 2-block walk to Caltrain (35 min train to SF), 15 min drive to Stanford, and free/ample street parking (which no other RWC complexes have). We love using the gym, lounge, and rooftop bbq & jacuzzi. Julie, Audra, Osvaldo, & Leo have been the best management team! We visited all the new apartments in RWC and this was hands down the best package.

Great location: Based on my research, it is the only luxurious apartment around the area that is not right next to Caltrain/Highway/ El Camino Real. It is really quiet during night and on weekends. Target is right across the street. It's close to but not on El Camino Real. So you get the peaceful night as well as the easy access to El Camino Real. You can pretty much shop everything on El Camino Real: CVS, TJ, Whole Foods, Fedex, UPS, etc. Costco is also nearby. Amenities: All the appliances are brand new and top-notch. The AC is the best AC I have ever seen: made in Japan, super quiet, barely notice it exists, it does exchange air with the outside air and can be used as air filter/ fan in my opinion, def my life saver during wildfire season. It has smart home system. You can voice control almost every light in the apt via Alexa/Google Home. The lighting is so sufficient you barely need a floor lamp in my opinion. You can lock your door via Alexa as well, def pandemic friendly. Great apartment design: Built-in dining, built-in trash cans, soft-close cabinets. The laundry room is on the balcony so you can barely hear your washer/dryer.The refrigerator is placed far away from the bedroom door on the other end of the kitchen. The bedroom has 2 closets (in case you want to make it his and hers). Management and service team: The team at 707 Leahy is great. Even though every of them is extremely busy, they still went above and beyond to help me all the way they can. The manager Katrina aired my apt 2.5 weeks before my lease start date. By the time I moved in, I can barely smell anything (No one wants to smell paint at home everyday during pandemic). She made sure my apt is spotlessly clean on my move-in day by asking the cleaning guy to come in and clean the entire apt again earlier in the morning of my move-in day. The service manager Hernan helped me to carry a 55in TV from 1st floor into my apartment. When I complained the fridge was too noisy and defective over the weekend. Hernan texted me at 8am on Mon morning saying he would install a new fridge for me. And I got his text with a pic around 9am saying the new fridge was installed. I was very impressed. He also helped me to install curtain rods and filled some holes I punched by mistakes. He explained to me that the AC pipeline is hidden behind the wall, that's why I cannot punch holes there. Overall, they are all extremely helpful and friendly, made my move-in life so much easier during the pandemic! Here at 707 Leahy, I do feel I belong to a community. Whenever I need help, there's always someone there to help me! : )

LOVE. Living. At. The Marc…read more We have been living at the Marc for almost three years (and just renewed for a fourth!) and couldn't be happier here. Coming from a world of New York luxury high rises, our bar was set very high. We totally fell in love with the Marc. First off, the building's location can't be beat - just two blocks away from University Ave: you get all the action while having calm surroundings. Second, the apartments are great - spacious, well maintained and the balconies are incredible. We are on the west side and literally get amazing sunsets every night. It doesn't really matter that the building is several decades old - the apartments have been updated and Ruffino and the maintenance crew will take care of any issues. Third, amenities are terrific - pool, barbecues, gym (just renovated a few weeks ago!). Finally: the community. Hats off to Linda - master property manager - who has created an incredible community of people who want to hang out with each other! There are regular mixers at the Marc that are very well attended and our neighbors are genuinely nice and friendly people. All the above points make for a great place, but this brings it over the line as a one-in-a-million place. If you come meet Linda or Larissa to inquire about a unit and life at the Marc and if that wasn't enough to convince you, just say hi and ask around to any of the neighbors you meet up in the hallway. Everyone will be delighted to tell you how awesome it is to live here! Here's to many more great times at the Marc!

The building maintenance crew are very quick to respond to any issues: Either a major appliance needing repair or a minor faucet adjustment, you can count on a fast response and quality work! Two-plus years later in this wonderful apartment we've called home, we have always felt taken care of and a welcome part of the community. This is a place where your neighbors say "Hello" and you have the chance to make good friends - like the members of The Cat Sitters Club, which we formed using posts on the Community Bulletin Board. We've also enjoyed the maintained Community Garden in the courtyard that was started by the property managers for the tenants. The garden has produced fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs. You get so many benefits from living here. They even installed charging stations in the parking lot for electric vehicles after they saw a need. The air filter had *never* been replaced. The hotwater had some kind of black goo in it that accumulated in the tub. The HVAC system kept breaking down to the point that we didn't have heat for a whole month one winter. The garbage chutes weren't vented properly so that the hall smelled like a landfill all the time, and given the right winds the smell would seep into the apartment. The staff are very nice (especially maintenance), but the management was atrocious and gave staff few resources to do their jobs. Management was indifferent, irresponsible, and failed to comply with basic tenant laws or even use common sense. The worst was when we moved out. They charged us for cleaning even though we left the place *much* cleaner than we found it. I have to assume that the cleaners deposited some grease and dust to bring it down to their standards of cleanliness. They also charged us to repaint the unit even though (a) there was no significant damage, and (b) according to state law a landlord is not permitted to deduct regular repainting from the security deposit if you've lived in the unit more than 2 years. When I reached out to management about this, they simply ignored me. They returned $0.17 of my $1000 deposit when we left. I'm keeping the check without depositing just to annoy them.

With the similar amount of rent you'll end up paying there are better choices elsewhere. The average rating already gives a TLDR. Read on if you want more details and I'd like to share some of our perspective. We moved in since 2016 when the apartment was just built. We have finally made up our mind to move out when the lease ends. Below are all the frustrations and hassles we went through during our time here. I'll update the list as time goes on. Due to the length limit the details for some sections are omitted. Refer to the attached screenshots for the full write-up. ## Going Downstairs for Grocery & Food Delivery They very recently changed the policy to require fob access on elevators for all floors. We are working remotely at home and ordering grocery and food delivery almost on a daily basis. We used to be able to ask the carrier to leave the order at door. With the new policy change the carrier has no access to elevator and we have to go downstairs to pick up the order. It's not always feasible to do this immediately if we are in a meeting. The order would end up in a public area and risk being taken by others. There are hundreds of residents in the building and it can be frustrating to sort our order out from others. I can't imagine how things would be for those senior residents who have issues getting up and walking around very often and are relying on the delivery for their wellness. They said this is for safety reasons. I see nothing that prevents them from hiring a dedicated stuff to handle the delivery within the building while keeping things safe, other than the lack of motivation to compensate for the residents' loss of convenience. I know a couple of apartments with the same level of rent are doing it this way. Besides the inconveniences caused by this new policy, what concerns us more is the way they make changes abruptly that would potentially disrupt the living conditions of many residents without ever taking inputs from them at all. Whatever appeals to you at time of moving-in might suddenly go away with no compensation totally at their whim. ## Long Distance to Get Package There are 3 towers in the building but all packages are delivered to 1F near the leasing office. Depending on the location of the apartment, it could take up to 10 minutes one-way to retrieve the package. They use Luxer One for package delivery and set the free holding period to just 2 days. You'll get charged for $10 per day if you don't pick up your order in time. It's worth mentioning that we had 3 packages lost which were labeled as delivered to someone at leasing office. The packages never show up in Luxer One. We contacted the leasing office and it took them 1 month to get back to us saying they couldn't find the packages. ## Rent Hike & Due Date Manipulation We renewed lease right before COVID. We were paying $4800 when the similar apartments in the same building were listed $3800 on Zillow. We didn't ask for a reduced rent as it's a signed contract. We paid rent on time with no disruptions even during the pandemic. However, when the time comes for another renewal, they hiked rent to $4850 while the FMV was still around $3800. They clearly feel no appreciation for our timely payments during a hard time and see that as an opportunity to take advantage of us. We argued for a lower rent, and after a lot of going back and forth they agreed to lower the rent to $4100. While the credits go to them for agreeing to lower the rent to a more reasonable level, having to fight your way through it definitely doesn't qualify for peace of mind. They also try hard to manipulate lease ending date to push you towards renewing during peak rental season. This way they could gain more leverage for rent hike. Our current lease ends in March, the renewal offer we received quotes $4200 for 13-month but $5500 for 12-month. ## Moving Out Nightmare We changed to a larger apartment within the same building and the moving-out experience was awful. The apartment was kept in generally good conditions without any noticeable damage. We paid $500 for breaking the current lease and $170 for cleaning. We thought the transition would be smooth. However, the stuff who did the inspection was super picky and fussed over little scratches on the floor due to normal wear & tear. The person charged us $1800 for the repair and cited some law in Colorado, which is funny as this is California. We argued back and ended up paying another $200 for the damage. Things might be much nastier if we moved to a different community. We haven't done that yet but it's already a headache thinking about it. ## Bike Stolen ## Annoying Neighbor
