One of the best things about Yelp's review site is that you can trust what people are writing. Participants have nothing to gain or lose by sharing their experience in an honest way hoping only to edify their community. With that being said, writing a less than five star review is hard to do for the same reason. You know the owner has worked hard to build a company and they are also part of the community. I booked our Local Table food tour over a month ahead of the date we hoped to attend. Although, my card was charged, there was no confirmation of purchase or mention of where to meet. I waited a few weeks and contacted the owner to make sure my computer wasn't displaying wrong. She replied quickly and mentioned that a new registration system was to blame. She also said another email would be sent the week of, as a reminder. I never received that either and when it was brought up on the tour, I was surprised that every other person on the tour said the same thing. A few even said they wondered if the food tour was a fake business and hoped they hadn't been duped when they showed up. Our tour guide was very sweet and it was apparent she was trying hard, but when the owner reached out and mentioned this had been her first big tour, solo, it was not a surprise. The first two restaurants were beautiful and what we hoped for, but they seemed rushed as we tried to get to know our table mates. The tour was expected to end at 5pm, but we were in our car and on the road by 4:38, so it must have ended early. I wish we could have slowed down the pace. Ice breaker questions included how long have you been married and how many kids do you have? For some, this set wasn't hard to answer, but for my friend and another couple these questions hit sensitive nerves. I later wrote that questions that were more personally appropriate like, "Spicy, Sweet or Sour?" Or "Chocolate or Vanilla?", might be a better fit. Two couples were visiting from out of town and when they asked what to do, our guide gave them little help, but suggested Colorado Springs. This would be about a two hour drive and they had previously mentioned Uber was their mode of transportation. Boulder and the surrounding areas have tons of things to do; that should have been the focus. The third visit was to a brewery. Only 2/6 were drinking alcohol on the tour at the first three stops and it seemed a little odd that the guide drank as much as they did. Maybe that is standard, but never has been on previous tours I have participated in. At the brewery, they ordered a pitcher of beer, but had to agree on what kind to get as they were only ordering one. With 4 people not drinking, I'm surprised they didn't receive a flight of their own choosing. The waiter asked if we'd be having any other food besides the three shared appetizers. He didn't seem to know we were on a food tour. Our next stop was at a spice shop. There were no samples and we were told we could walk around and open bottles and lick it from our hands. That did not seem very sanitary and some people voiced their frustration that they had basically paid to come into shop and sat on the bench up front. The last stop was a popsicle shop, it was a nice idea, but on a hot day many people had juice running down their arms and dripping on their clothes. A nice touch would have been a wet wipe to keep from getting sticky. During this time, our guide suggested, again, that a five star review would be appreciated. In my opinion, reviews are earned and review inflation defeats the purpose of even having a review site. This experience was not bad, and the other guests made it fun, but it definitely did not compare to other food tours I've been on and didn't feel special or worthy of 5 stars.

My husband and I went on the LoHi Food Tour last weekend for my birthday and absolutely loved it!! This was our second local table tour (we previously went on the boulder tour- which was also awesome). The food was great, and our guide (Orion) and the new spots in Denver that he showed us were really unique. We've lived here for 2 years and had only been to one of the places on the tour (we are big foodies and love to search out new places). I wasn't even upset that I had already been to one of the places (Avanti) because there are many places to eat inside and I had never sampled the french restaurant we went to on the tour. I am a cook and a baker with very high standards, and the apple dessert at that french restaurant was literally perfect. Orion was a really cool guide. Our previous tour in boulder had about 8 people on it but this one was only me, my husband, Orion and one other guy. It could've potentially been weird since there were so few of us, but we had a blast! Our last stop was a donut shop (AMAZING!!) where we ran into another table tour group led my the owner of table tours. She chatted with us for a bit and was very friendly. We would 100% do this tour again and will be requesting Orion!

Pei, one of the greatest architects of the 20th century, and completed in 1967. Although this was his first major project, it received immediate recognition as a masterpiece of modern design and caused Pei's career to rocket. The buildings are inspired by ancient Pueblo ruins and fit seamlessly into their spectacular foothills setting, rather than trying to dominate the landscape. Meteorology first became criticality important during WWII, but basic research into our weather declined drastically after the war. The National Academy of Sciences approached Congress in 1956 to fund an institute for basic climate research. NCAR has been funded by the National Science Foundation since 1960 and is managed by a consortium of universities. One of NCAR's basic functions is to develop models of our climate and the facility has housed a series of state-of-the-art supercomputers for this purpose. Alas for computer nerds, since 2012 the latest generations of systems are now at the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center in Cheyenne (there is a nice visitor center and tour if you visit there). NCAR encourages visits by the public and is open every day at no charge. The complex sits at the top of Table Mesa and takes up 28 acres of 565 acres of City of Boulder open space. Getting there is a little tricky. You take Table Mesa Drive through a residential development. The houses suddenly end and you're on NCAR Road which twists seamlessly into the landscape and leads past the main entrance to the huge parking lot. Be careful on the rather steep road as it is used by lots of bicyclists and runners. There's a path from the parking lot to the rear of the complex. A staircase leads to the plaza and public entrance. The setting is gorgeous and there are eight hiking trails of various lengths and levels of difficulty. The main public parts of NCAR are the lobby and adjacent two-level science hall which are packed with dozens of interesting and well-done exhibits, many interactive, that explain the functions of weather and scientific research about it. There's also a small theater, a research library, and Pei's original model of the project. The public is welcome to use the large cafeteria (follow the signs from the exhibit hall) which has great views and hosts a continuing series of art exhibits. I usually stop at NCAR whenever I visit Boulder and always enjoy my time there.

PRO TIP: try avoiding the most back row if you have long legs or any stress with mobility. Because once you sit there, the seat is assigned and you will have to deal with being cramped in a tighter space. And you basically are always the last one to get off. This was one of the biggest cons. Moving on, the tour itself was great. We stopped by a cafe on the way to and back, for food and bathroom breaks, and pretty soon, the van took us to the Rocky Mountain with beautiful views and even saw many wildlife - the big horn sheep, elk, deer (i think), and, not to forget, smaller animals like birds, mouse, and chipmunks, but no moose spotted. Nonetheless, the breathtaking view of the Rockies is certainly worth the journey. The guide was very knowledgeable about trees and shared many stories about the places and tips for visiting Denver in general! She also took us to a few Native American owed stores that featured indigenous art that were very cool to see. One thing to note is that I think the Colorado Sightseer, the tour company, had listed at least two slightly different itineraries, and I might have been sent to the one I did not pick. I noticed because I intentionally picked the tour with visits to two visitor centers, vs the one I went on only took us to Beaver Meadows. Not a big deal bc I did get still get my stamp, and the tour used most of the day's time efficiently by visiting many attractions. But this might be something you want to make sure if the stops matter a lot to you. Nonetheless, with a group tour, it is understandable and expected for the itinerary to potentially change. For instance, the day I went, the tour guide actually too us to visit places in different order to avoid crowds. Another thing to really appreciate is that the tour provided some snacks, extra gloves/beanies, which were really a lifesaver in the cold mountains. I know I was not fully prepared for it and so glad I could borrower some!

It was 3 of us, including my 8-year-old son, and the conditions couldn't have been better--just a little snow, some mud, and plenty of opportunities for big splashes (which my son absolutely loved). We did a 5-hour rental, which felt like the perfect amount of time to explore without feeling rushed. The equipment was in great shape, and even the truck used to haul the ATV and trailer to the trailhead was well-maintained--everything felt professional and dialed in. The team really made the experience stand out. Everyone we interacted with was fantastic, and Andrew in particular was a superstar--he handled both checkout and check-in, made everything easy, and clearly cares about making sure customers have a great time. We'll definitely be back, especially to experience the trails in full snow. Highly recommend all around.
