Stumbled upon this place after a nice brunch in downtown. We were feeling a bit of a kanak attack coming so coffee was a must! My friend introduced this hole in the wall coffee place just right across from the pier. Never would of thought that there would be a coffee shop facing the pier and even has a drive thru where you can order and go simultaneously! All the workers there were pretty friendly and there quite a handful of coffee options you could choose from. The first sip of their coffee was amazing. I ordered their Caramel Macchiato and it was probably the best one I have had EVER! Hands down most of their coffee from the time I have gone has always tasted rich and it really gives you that kick you need! What could be more intoxicating than the smell of coffee beans roasting? Stopped in on a Friday afternoon, my first visit to Local Joe...and there was Charles, the owner in full ROAST mode. Ahhhhh...that is a smell that positively evokes memories and emotions. The vibe of Local Joe is true bohemian coffee shop and it's easy to see why he has a dedicated following. Now...I'm a double espresso man....you know...the way God intended coffee to be enjoyed...and while many places offer a decent double shot... not everyone does it right. I never actually got to try anything because the attitude and customer service I got made me leave immediately. We randomly stumbled upon this place when parking nearby. It looked like a cute little cafe and that's what made us want to try. The menu looked awesome with some delicious sounding drinks. My friends and I walked in & we asked if we could all get a strawberry matcha. The girl looked at us and said we don't have matcha today with an attitude. There were absolutely no signs or indication that they didn't have matcha. Then the guy standing behind said "everywhere is closed today." We didn't know what he meant by that but that was enough to make us feel like we didn't belong and to move on. While searching for a place to buy lunch and dinner, I came across Local Joe, which I've heard about through Yelp. Very cute, artsy cafe. Staff members were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I ordered a veggie wrap for lunch and a pesto turkey sandwich and mediterranean salad for dinner. The veggie wrap was delish, so I can't wait to try the turkey sandwich later. The cafe is also known for their coffee but I've already had my cup for the day but I definitely will try a cup next time. They also have bags of coffee beans from the different islands (incl. 100% kona!) available for purchase in the right size for home and for shipping! Who doesn't like a cup of Joe to start off their day? Coffee is life for me and it's a necessity for me to start off my day. With so many coffee shops closed to customers to have coffee there, I was delighted to see one can still have coffee outside of Local Joe. This coffee shop is located between Chinatown and Downtown. Parking is a challenge with the construction going on in Chinatown (October 2020) but there are some metered stalls closer toward Downtown. There is also a pay to park lot right in front of Local Joe. When you enter this cozy coffee shop you will notice customer service is quite friendly. You're greeted almost immediately and they are rather cheerful in the morning. They also have a machine that prints images on drink orders. If your order doesn't have foam and you really want an image, you can pay $1 and they will add foam to your drink so they can print an image for you. On top of their awesome caffeinated drinks, they have a variety of foods that you can munch on. Solid spot to have coffee as Honolulu is opening up. read more

The most delicious breakfast Ive had all year. We wanted to order breakfast from someone we've never eaten and stumbled up this beaute on uber eats. We like about 10 mins out of downtown so the order came pretty quick. We ordered a lox bagel and an ABC. Which is avocado, bacon, cream cheese on a bagel. They make homemade bagels, and we bake bread every once in a while, so we were very Impressed. The bacon on my bagel was so crispy and they did not skimp on my avocado. We love that they are a small shop that's still uses Post-it's to label their bags and orders. We will definitely be ordering from here again and highly recommend you try their bagels. Quite a small shop. The lady who was working was very kind. A small action the lady took was right when she was able to order, me being the indecisive person I am, she gave me some recommendations for what was good. The latte came out relatively quickly. My friend ordered a smoothie too. There was a bit of a wait for the smoothie but the employee was doing her best and kept us updated. I ordered the Thai latte (5/5): it wasn't too sweet nor too bitter. It was super fragrant. Poi banana bread (5/5): it was really moist and wasn't too sweet. Google/apple pay is accepted here. I've been here occasionally over the past few years. I'm not a huge coffee lover but do love getting it occasionally when I need a pick me up. Recently, I've been reintroduced to it as it's nearby my workplace. I've also recently learned that they have food which is a great lunch choice if you work in downtown! When dining in was possible, it was very cute to sit inside and enjoy a cup of coffee! They've also added some outdoor seating to the patio since the last time I've been to the shop. They serve breakfast and lunch all day and have some great healthier options to choose from. I've had the turkey bacon breakfast burrito which comes stuffed with turkey bacon, cheese, tater tots, and spinach. It was a pretty big sized portion and also comes with a side of spicy salsa which was a really good pairing with the burrito. It would be a huge breakfast portion for me but perfect for lunch. Super filling, healthy and affordable! I've also tried the gyro here and it was surprisingly also very good! I always crave gyros which can be hard to find downtown. Local Joe has them ready made in their food case so you may be skeptical. However, give it a try! The pita and fillings tasted fresh and really authentic. It comes in a pita bread stuffed with slices of gyro meat, cheese, and veggie toppings. For a coffee shop, they sure do have some great food options!! As for drinks, I've recently ordered a chai tea latte. I would say their drinks are on the pricer side, HOWEVER, having a local shop is not cheap! The owner brings and and roasts his own coffee so you're paying for the quality! The chai tea I had was delicious! Will be back to try other options like a dirty chai and some lattes next time. They also have a cool feature where you can print latte art onto your drink with this machine. Send a picture over WiFi through the app and get any picture printed! It makes for a very aesthetic coffee - perfect for all those ig shots! While dining in is not an option right now, they are open for takeout and I would urge you to support and try this place if you're in the area. Unfortunately, their espresso machine was not working, so I was offered the option of cold coffee, which was not on my bingo card for that day. Good coffee is found everywhere in Honolulu but we wanted to get out of Waikiki and found this little gem not too far from the airport rental car locations, about 8 minutes. The hospitality of Hawaii is incredible everywhere and the lady welcomed us with such cheerfulness. Masks are required to enter and there are meters to park just north of the building. I've been wanting to try this coffee spot after seeing so many pictures of their latte art haha. I was very excited to see my cute dog on my latte hehe. I'm more of an iced latte kinda gworl, but the guy said hot lattes are the best for the art (also best to get it with whole milk or soy). We tried two of their February special drinks, the Honey Rose latte & the Audrey Hepburn latte. The AH latte was yummy & has prominent cinnamon taste - not overly sweet either! We also shared the lox bagel & maple waffles. Lox bagel is a bit smaller than I thought - can definitely feed one person easily. Also the bagel is a bit on the crunchier side, but still a good meal. Maple waffles were delicious!!! They are fairly soft waffles (not in a soggy way) & you can taste hints of maple for sure. Comes with strawberries, blueberries, and bananas as well as syrup, some kind of condensed milk, & whipped cream. Parking: very limited. There are a few meters on Marin St, but none were available when we went. We ended up parking on Merchant, and it's only like a minute walk so nbd & wasn't really an inconvenience. You can park out front if you are picking up though. Indoor seating is very limited when we went, but there are a few tables outside, which I think is the better option anyways:) I can go on and on about what a great experience coming here was. Charming little coffee shop by Murphy's Bar and Grill. I was passing by on my way to Quartz and Thistle and wanted to give them a try. I got the iced Macadamia Nut latte and açaí bowl. The lavender matcha latte is to die for. Let's me honest though, even if the coffee was crap, we'd all still come here for the latte art. Don't act like you're above being this basic. Who doesn't want a photo of their cat on their coffee? Note: if you want a latte art drink, have your design/photo ready and make sure you have an Apple device to airdrop the barista. Last time the texting wasn't working. Don't be holding up the line to look through your phone, because people WILL fight you if you keep them from their morning coffee. Also, they don't charge extra for the latte art, so please TIP your barista. If you're a Karen, please stick to Starbucks and don't come here. The only issues are the parking and hours. Hard finding free parking nearby and they close SO early. I'm a cafe camper, but I will tip and buy multiple drinks/snacks throughout my time at a cafe to justify my staying there to study. This seems like the coffee shop that I would come by weekly to get some work done. I love that they have tables set up outside in front of the building. I have been here only once but from my experience, it was SUPER slow. Which is the reason I'm making this review 4 instead of 5 stars. I am obsessed. New favorite coffee shop... EVER. The only negative that I could find is the lack of parking. There is a lot next door, but it's $17 minimum, so make sure to avoid that. The cappuccino was delicious (and beautiful) and so was the made-to-order omelet. We were so happy with the entire experience. My husband and I stopped by here for coffee while staying at a hotel a couple miles away, and it was so delicious we ended up ordering 3 more coffees for our family members. I ordered an iced coffee, and it was very strong and one of the best iced coffees I've ever had. I also saw in the reviews that the bagels are very popular, so we ordered everything bagels with cream cheese and they were perfectly chewy, crispy, and delicious. There is limited seating, so plan to take it to go unless you get good timing with an open table. There is a paid parking lot right next door. Everyone working there was very friendly. We've seen this cute shop for a while now (entrance visible off of Nimitz) and have been meaning to come in. I'm so very glad we did! September means it is now socially acceptable for me to express my love of all things pumpkin (who is kidding though, I make pumpkin desserts all year around). That being said, I've been on/off disappointed by pumpkin spice related coffee offerings over the years. Thank you to the other Yelpers the mentioned Local Joe's pumpkin pie latte - or I would not have tried it. Instead of a sickly-syrupy sweet pumpkin offering, their pumpkin pie latte was divine. You could taste the spices and the coffee was smooth. I was almost loath to give my partner more than 1 sip! His latte was also fabulous and he commented that it is much better than what he can make at home (which is very high praise). Seriously, the foam was the right amount, the espresso pulled well, and temperature just right. No wonder Local Joe is popular! We also tried their breakfast burritos, which were a yummy offering. It was so filling for me, I could only eat a snack until dinner afterwards. What a great accompaniment to the delicious coffee. I'm so delighted we were able to stop in and cannot wait to go back! I have always wanted to try this place hearing all the good things. I finally had a chance to visit early morning in town. Parking is always a pain in downtown. My husband and I shared a Thai iced tea, breakfast croissant sandwitch and breakfast burritto. Thai iced tea was not too sweet and I liked that. Breakfast buritto was excellent...lots of filling inside and comes with avocado, salsa and sour cream as it should! Croissant was also very flakey and tasty. The workers, are very nice and friendly....help you with recommendations. Few negatives are there were lots of fruit flies flying around, and your order may take a while and might become a problem if you are in a morning rush. Local Joe is located in Downtown near Marin Tower, so it's very convenient. My boyfriend and I decided to stop by since we were early to get to work. When we got there, the staff were friendly and the service was fast. We arrived around 7:30am, and there was no line. However, from all the times we passed by, there was always a line! I definitely recommend ordering online if you are in a rush. I ordered an iced matcha tea latte with soy milk, sweetened with honey. My boyfriend ordered a hot matcha tea latte, sweetened with honey as well. I would say that their matcha tea is on the stronger side, BUT I appreciate that they have all these milk alternatives you can choose from. I think their latte art is super cute and a nice touch with presentation. If you like your tea sweetened, there are sugar packets on the high top tables. There are a few seating options: a couple of tables outside and inside, and a bar seating. I didn't stop and drink, but took my tea to go. It's definitely something to try if you are in Downtown!
