Great for Lobster and Chowder -had a late lunch for party of 7 after exploring Fortress of Louisberg - service: excellent. Waitress Lisa was friendly and efficient - lobster roll: average. Too much bread, very little flavour, fries were decent, coleslaw was good - lobster poutine: excellent. cheesy, good chunks of lobster and a good portion - 8oz fish and chips: good. Portion smaller than expected, breading was light, fries were good, coleslaw was good - hamburger: average. Meat patty was average, not that juicy. Coleslaw and fries were good - mussels white wine and garlic: below average. Small portion, didn't taste the garlic flavour, had lots of sand and not much meat. When the waitress asked how my dish was, I have an honest answer and said it was only ok. She asked if she could bring me something else and I said it wasn't necessary but Lisa came back with a cup of fish chowder. Now that's customer service! The chowder was excellent, very tasty - lobster for 2 (forgot to take a picture): lobster was excellent. Good presentation, 2 lobsters (1-1.25lbs each) was fresh with lots of meat and one even had lobster eggs & garlic butter dipping sauce was excellent. Seafood chowder was delicious. Potatoes were good. Corn was average, not very sweet. Coleslaw was delicious, mussels were average. -lemon meringue pie: average. Small individual portion, lemon was good, merengue was ok, crust tasted burnt and bitter. -chairs are comfortable, lots of table space, great view inside or on the patio -good place for a quick bite read more

AWFUL SERVICE. Mediocre food. Waited 15 minutes for our server to even come to us. Waited another 15 to see our drinks. Waited another 30 for our food to come, which we ordered the same time as our drinks. 3 tables sat after us were not only served first but received their food first. One of the tables was done and gone before we even got our food. The worst part of the poor service was there was absolutely no apology for making us wait. Not even an acknowledgment. I got the lobster roll. Solid 4/10. Veggies were not fresh and fries were clearly from a bag and unseasoned. Lobster was chewy and didn't seem fresh. My sister got the chicken fingers and fries. Both obviously frozen and rather flavourless. My boyfriend got the fish and chips. Solid 3/10. Fish had been previously frozen, flavorless, and fries were clearly from a bag. My brother (who has celiac disease) got nothing because their only gluten free option was veggie or original cabbage rolls which he doesn't like. Even though the menu states multiple times to ask your server about GF options and let them know if it's an allergy. All portions were relatively small (2 chicken fingers, 1 small piece of fish) all for $65 (not including tip and we all had water). View is nice and atmosphere is classic East Coast but not worth the time if you want actual good food for a decent price. read more

Stick with the mussels- its a hearty portion- but thats the best they have. We were told that lobster is the only fresh thing they have " since they come straight from the tank". I was really eager to order the freshest local fish ( i don;t eat lobster) but the waitress was kinda hesitant with fresh fish recommendations, instead she recommended crab cakes as a " typical local dish". Crab cakes that were highly recommended to us were made with too much potatoes in the cake -mix less the crab meet. I kindly pass on this dish, wouldn't recommend it. Chowder was good, although I had to say I had it better on the oder places in Cape Breton. Local beer - Alexander Keith's red ale was enjoyable. Go for it. Their desserts are not home made but some of the crusts are. Overall, this place is not that great- but apparently there are not much better sea-food options in Louisburg. The layout on the water is perfect- and worthwhile and extra rating. read more

We had a fantastic local seafood meal at the Lobster Kettle. Julian, our server was pleasant, and very attentive. The restaurant is overlooking the picturesque harbour. The eating area is maybe a little too open but didn't take away from our experience. The seafood chowder was great and not too thick. We had fish and chips. The fish was crispy and light tasting and the house cut fries were excellent. For a small place they had a good selection of beer and wine. read more

A lovely little place tucked between the playhouse and the sea. A little patio if you are blessed with good weather or bright airy dinning room with a few homey touches. Service was prompt and friendly as you would expect. The menu was limited so our party of four tried most of the main items - snow crab, fish and scallops. We skipped the lobster as they were on the small size for the price. While the main items were good - snow crab and the pan fried fish were perfectly prepared -!the sides stole the show esp the red potatoes. I will not drive to Louisbourg for the food, but if you are here this is a nice meal at a good price with lovely service. And maybe a great view .. We had fog. read more

This place has been consistent for 10 years. A great view when the fog isn't in. Out door seating is good when it warm and not foggy. I usually have the chowder and a lobster sandwich. I would not suggest a local favorite--the fish cakes and beans--pretty boring. The service is a bit slow but we are from California and may be used to a faster pace. I think this is the best bet in Louisbourg. read more

This place pretends to be a very nice restaurant. It has a great location- with great views, right on the water. But....the waitstaff, food, and prices were a HUGE disappointment. Both servers had an attitude like they're working at fine dining in NYC, but they serve and deliver like they flunked their training at Tim Hortons. The food was very disappointing as well- quite overpriced, undersized and just so-so. The best that could happen here would be an influx of some new management. The menu had no prices listed on it. We ordered mussels, 2 x fish and chips and a vegan Curry pot pie. The food took a long time to arrive. The mussels were good but the portion was very small. The fish and chips were ok. The Curry pot pie barely tasted like curry and it was the smallest thing ever. I personally didn't like it. We got the bill and it was $90. I spent my last $50 and went without dinner that night. The guy behind the counter said something along the lines that the American dollar was strong in Canada. For such a expensive menu, you'd think at least in the women's restroom, the paper towel would be working. Instead it was so tacky, they left the roll out on he counter. Nice homey and friendly restaurant with food to match. Two crab cakes, beans and a garlic bread for $9.99. Wish beans would have been made at the restaurant though. Fish cakes were good! Chowder was good, slightly on the broth then creamy side. Overall good comfort food and attentive service! read more

So the restaurant itself has a very cafeteria feel, unless you are admiring the stunning ocean view from the windows or patio. Service was exceptional! Our waitress (I wish I could remember her name) was phenomenal, providing great recommendations. The food was mixed. Not my favorite fish and chips, but the clam chowder was AMAZING. Enjoyed the salad with mussels and my husband was totally into his over the top Kettle burger (with pulled pork, ground beef, egg, bacon, etc...). The waitress recommended the chocolate cake at the end of our meal. Normally, my response would be "no," BUT it was worth every, single calorie. So, so good! read more

This restaurant has SO much potential. Overall the food was excellent-we both had crab leg dinner. When we arrived we were told we could not have a table on the patio because we did not have reservations. Number 1-the patio could have fit at least 3-4 more tables. Number 2-who knows when you are on vacation that reservations are needed on a Monday night. Number 3- one table on patio sat empty the entire time we ate in the hot restaurant It was a beautiful evening-in the 70's and when asked why the doors and windows weren't open to let the cool ocean breeze in, we were told the A/C was on. The A/C was not big enough to keep up with the demand-thus many people were fanning themselves. But as I said the food itself and service were both good. read more

We had a delightful time at the Lobster Kettle. It is just what one would hope for in an informal seaside fish restaurant. The service was excellent and very pleasant. We had crab legs which were delicious and reasonably priced, which came with very tasty vegetables and new potatoes, as well as a very good whole wheat bun. And it is right on the water. read more

Contrary to their website, there is no longer a salad bar. Had to ask for water, no dinner rolls, and had to ask 3 times and essentially argue to get plain butter for the lobster rather than the so-called garlic butter which tasted like dissolved bullion cubes. Mussels were good, fish was average, lobster fine, but the portions were small and the vegetable sides very modest. Overpriced and we all left hungry. read more

I had heard some decent reviews of this place before eating here, and I have to say I was very disappointed. The "salad bar" that they advertise was tiny, with little more than unappealing lettuce, some mushrooms, beets, a cabbage salad, and some dressings. The rest of the menu looked ok, so we decided to stay anyway - poor choice! It took about an hour for the food to arrive, even though they weren't particularly busy and none of us ordered anything slow. I ordered the seafood chowder and my parents had lobster and crab. My chowder was severely lacking in seafood flavor, and my parents' lobsters were overcooked, which I guess is unsurprising since they had an hour to cook something that shouldn't even take 30 minutes. Other minor annoyances compounded the problem: their "loaded potato" was in fact several small baked potatoes with some of the listed toppings provided in small containers for me to add myself. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to "load" a baked new potato, but that seemed to be the idea. The rolls were also dry and bland, which normally I wouldn't even note, but I guess bad service and mediocre food makes me notice all the other problems. I've gotten the sense that if you're looking for a decent restaurant in Louisbourg, your best bet may be to go somewhere else - I certainly wouldn't recommend this one... read more

There aren't options in Louisbourg, nevertheless, this is a great spot on the cove. The place is basic, but immaculately clean. There is outside seating on the water. I found the mussels excellent. You need to order a side of garlic bread. The white fish is the best I've had anywhere. I really liked it. read more

We chose this one after a unimpressive meal at the Grubstake the night before and I was pleasantly surprised. Great service, good seafood. They have nice kids meals. Crab leg meal was delicious and had a nice bowl of chowder too. A good meal to end our trip on. read more

Stopped in at The Lobster Kettle this week to have our first feed of snow crab for this season. Could hardly wait to get back to see Terry and enjoy the best snow crab we have ever had. Tried it many other places and none of them come close. Sitting inside on a bright but cool day looking out over Louisbourg harbour just added to the experience. Wish we lived closer than 550km! read more
