Does Miracle Max work here? Well, at least in this case, if you rush a miracle man, you *don't* get rotten miracles! My wife's wedding dress, which arrived six months late (and only ten days before our wedding date) had to be altered in a hurry, and with COVID-19 running rampant, nothing was guaranteed. A1 Alteration Station (aka Lloyd Alteration Station) took on the job, and rushed the primary alteration (which required downsizing two dress sizes and cutting through eight layers) in a week! Add one day for a final fitting and adding sleeves from the excess material, and they made the impossible happen in eight days! And on the morning of our event, when the sleeves were still just a tad loose (my already tiny wife keeps shrinking!), she was able to pop in and have them adjusted in less than five minutes, at no additional charge. Dress alteration is never cheap, but the quality of the work is incomparable, and the look in my wife's eyes after she had donned "the perfect dress" for the first time was enough to testify to the craftsmanship of the tailor, cost be damned. Truth be told, I shed a few tears myself, seeing my fairy tale Princess descend the staircase in that gorgeous dress; it's a memory I will remember the rest of my life! Anything that takes the stress off of an already stressful day is as good as gold, so thank the Rumplestiltskin behind the spinning wheel for saving us from a pauper's procession! I can't imagine any tailor or seamstress being easier, faster, accessible, friendlier or more reliable than A1 was for us, when the chips were down. If there are other criteria by which a tailor should be measured, I cannot fathom what they would be. The Customer is Always Wrong I almost never post reviews and I'm not one to put down small businesses in particular but I find myself compelled to speak out this time. You may notice mostly positive reviews on Yelp but peppered throughout are negative ones that focus on a common theme. When something goes wrong, the people who run LLoyd's Alteration Station blame the same person time and again, the customer. In my case, I brought in a pair of new pants to be altered and they handed me back some else's pants a week later. They insisted they were my pants but clearly they were not. They insisted their system never fails and that I am to blame. In the negative reviews from others on the receiving end of a mistake by the business, the owner writes responses calling the customers liars and idiots. The owner never accepts responsibility. There are instances where the negative reviewer refers to the owner physically forcing a customer out the door. The police are even called in one incident. True or not I don't know. But their attitude toward me was not pleasant to say the least. Keep in mind that when you first walk into the Alteration Station, the manager is dour and unpleasant. Customer relations are weak at this business and it shows. And when something goes wrong that attitude worsens. Their pride gets in the way of getting something right when it goes wrong. Look, there are many places to get your clothing altered without the attitude and more importantly without finding yourself on the cold NE Broadway sidewalk outside the Alteration Station without your garment handled wrong or worse, without your garment at all. I dropped off two pairs of jeans on Thursday and picked them up the following Tuesday. One pair the zipper had broken off and the other pair needed to be majorly hemmed (short legs). Likes: prices are listed so you know the cost in advance. Fast turnaround and very business like, which I appreciate. I have only tailored jeans here, but I can report that they did a fine job, for a fair price. This tiny little shop was manned (womanned?) by two ladies who were, when I walked in, handling a steady stream of customers coming in for a parade of various alterations. It didn't take long for them to get to me, measure my hems, and send me on my way with a claim check. About 2 days and $12 later, I had some nicely-hemmed jeans, perfect length. She was even able to deal with the fact that I had walked on them for a while, tearing the original hem. There was enough length left to still hem. Yay! I found it to be interesting that I had to pay the $12 up front. I was a little nervous, since... well... what recourse would I have if they didn't do the job as expected? It turned out okay, but I still would prefer, like with dry cleaning, to pay when I pick up. Oh well. Next up, I'm going to test them with some more technical tailoring. Stay tuned. read more

This is where you go if you need a suit or clothing tailored . I've used them for coats as well and the pricing is clear and fair. Unlike a few other local places I've tried these people are fairly quick to resize and have your outfit ready and fitting right. Another important factor is taste and style and they seem up to date on suit trends and fittings. The last thing anyone wants is to look like your wearing an awkward suit and they got the shoulders and lengths on the sleeves correct. read more

I dare say this is the only alteration location open on Sundays, which is the main reason I chose to patronize this business. You must brave entering the Lloyd Center to go here, so be prepared. The attendant who pinned up the dresses I wanted altered was completely no-nonsense and very experience. She was attentive and listened to what I wanted done and offered no comment whatsoever. The work was well-done and finished within a few days. Pants cost around 10 bucks to be shortened. My more elaborate dress requests were predictably more (I think around 18 dollars a pop). read more

I've visited twice to have new jeans hemmed up and had a good experience each time. Portlanders might be put off because they don't do the whole 'happy happy, cheery cheery' Portland thing and are really no-nonsense, strictly business, and almost curt in their (good) service. As a recent Chicago transplant this was a pleasant reminder of home. ;) They'll quickly measure (while you wear) and pin your pants and then for $12 hem them up. $5 extra rush fee if you come in early and want them by the end of the day. My first alteration here, I was thrilled. I recommended this place to at least 5 different people. But this week I was treated so unprofessionally that I can't , in good faith, recommend it to anyone. Both times were to take in shoulder straps on a dress. This time, I noticed a problem after pinning--it left big gaps near the armpit. After I pointed this out, he re-adjusted the pins and it looked great. When I went in to pick up the finished dress, I tried it on and there were even worse, giant, 2" gaps in both armpits because the sides of the straps were too loose. I came out to (apologetically) show him that this was a problem, and he literally yelled at me about first telling him it was too tight (? that was never the issue) and that now it was too loose... he could tell I had a slanted posture and that one breast is bigger than the other (!) and what, did I think clothing could just be adjusted to custom fit everyone? Um, yes. This is a TAILOR. "Isn't that EXACTLY what people come in for??" I asked, and he could only shrug. But seriously. I am able to buy clothes off the rack, for the most part. Thanks for trying to make me feel like a freak of nature for standing up to shoddy work. I seriously doubt he belittles men for having IMPERFECT BODIES. If I have to point out that that 2" gaps revealing a woman's bra is a problem after pinning, and you adjust the pins and then cannot sew to pinned specifications, don't take it out on me. The man only stopped yelling after another customer (a man) came into the shop. He re-pinned and then re-sewed, and the finished dress was fine 1 day later. But I will never be back. read more

Popped in for some simple hem work and while it was busy I was in and out in a snap. While they are a little direct they are helpful and friendly. People came in with some whacky requests while I was there so one never knows what people expect and an alterations place cannot fix Humpty Dumpty or at least not for $10. My hems were done nicely and ready in three days. Seems about right to me. read more

The first time I came in, the owner was so fast and expedient that I was actually nervous - but he did a fantastic job (as always) and I've never tried anywhere else. I'm wondering if there are two locations for this place because while the address listed here at Yelp is on Broadway the photos are from Lloyd Center. Also, there was no man working at the Boradway location just two very nice courteous women. So, I am reviewing the Broadway location and am very pleased to have found them! I had a blouse that needed fairly major alterations and a pair of jeans that were too wide in the hips and thighs. I was apprehensive that either could be fixed properly but the jeans look great and the shirt does as well. I only had to wait a week and their prices are very reasonable. It's a little nerve-wracking trying out a new place for alterations. But it had to be done. Alteration Station really impressed me! The alterations were done quite well and the turnaround was fast. I was expecting to wait a week or more for my blazer, but it only took four days. Really great, speedy service. The man who helped me seemed brusque and rushed when I dropped the blazer off. It was late in the day, so perhaps I could have been a little more considerate and come by earlier. It was also strange paying for the work up front. Being unfamiliar with the area as I had been visiting for a business trip, I needed to alter a couple uniforms for work and came across this shop after looking through Google. Long story short, do not rely on the online prices provided on their website. The prices should actually say "$20...per pant leg", "$6...per patch", or something else they think is 'reasonable.' I still went through with the alteration because they had already measured everything and I didn't want to see them take out all the needles that were already stuck through all my items. When I got my pants back, the only thing I noticed different was the hem but not the tapering. I've paid half the (ridiculous) price they charged me at other shops and got so much more out of it and got exactly what I asked for. Take your money somewhere else. read more

It is so disappointing to go to a place you trust and have always had good results in the past. I had the opposite experience yesterday. I recently have taken some things to be hemmed. One thing I brought in was a pair pants. I noticed the other day that the stitching came undone and I had just had them hemmed two months ago. I took them in and the man who works or owns the place was there. I showed him the area where the stitching came out. He immediately was rude and told me it was wear and tear. He explained that he cannot be responsible for it. It would have taken him 5 Minutes to fix it. I asked him if he stands by his work and he said yes, but not when there is wear and tear. I had the pants hemmed 2 months ago and do not wear them often. He insisted on arguing with me and I explained twice that I was not interested in arguing I just was hoping he would fix the hem which literally would have taken him a very short amount of time. but if he was not going to do that I had no it was my fault that it happened. That is just poor customer service. I have had good luck their in the past. Maybe he was on his period, but I told him we need not argue just explained if he is not going fix them then I don't feel comfortable taking my stuff there any more. I will also share this With my friends who go there. They will be just as disappointed as I am. It is funny that the owner commented on my above review recently. My original review was written 10 months ago. Again He insults me and explains that the pants were really worn which is not true and again he is not standing by his work. I am okay with that. I don't care. He can do what he wants and make up what he wants. These reviews are for potential customers and they can decided what they want to do. I found new seamstress. She is cheaper, nicer and super great to work with. She does great work! The great part is if there is a problem she takes care of it. Great customer service. Who does not love that. read more

I want to preface this by saying that I have never written a Yelp review, but I think the terrible service I received deserves one. I went to this place last week to drop off some reversible jeans (which I had never seen before so they soon became my favorite jeans) that had tearing and needed a patch. I told the guy that since they are reversible I would like the patch to go on the side of the pants which I least liked. He told me that he would have to do the patching on that side anyways so I thought that was perfect so I paid and thanked him and went on my way. A few days later I picked up the jeans and took them home before inspecting them (don't advise) and discovered that he placed a huge patch on the wrong side of the jeans. I was so upset because the side that he patched was the only side I wore the pants on so I went back to the shop to see if he could fix the problem. As soon as I walked in and told him that I had a problem, he got extremely aggressive and started yelling at me. He was screaming that he used chalk to show me exactly where he was going to place the patch and that I told him that I wanted the patch on that side. Why would I want a patch on the side that I wear the jeans on? Trying to stay calm, I told him that he never used chalk and that he and I discussed placing the patch on the opposite side. He continued to scream at me (in front of another customer) and made it seem like it was all my fault. I have never been blatantly lied to and I have never received such terrible customer service. I am not the only customer who has been yelled at or has received horrible service so this is clearly not a personal issue, although I am sure the owner will disagree. read more

I have brought a few things in for alterations in the past with satisfactory results but my most recent experience made me feel I should warn others. I brought in a jacket to have the collar altered and when it came back it was not as I had expected. I went back and said I felt there had been a miscommunication and was there anything to be done. He told me he would call me. When he did call, he left an aggressive message that they did everything exactly right and I was totally wrong. He did not even offer to fix it at a reduced price. When I went it pick up my jacket there was a large mark on the sleeve that I pointed out. He got very angry and said the jacket had never been out of the bag and he was not to blame. I pointed out that the jacket was indeed out of the bag and I had not taken it out. This made him even angrier and he yelled until I left the store. read more

BEWARE of this place! I brought in two dresses and a jacket for alterations. I asked for the backs of the dresses to be taken in but instead the woman didn't pay attention and pinned the hips. I have hardly used tailors before so I trusted she knew what she was doing. I picked up the dresses and when I tried them on they were taken in at the hips (one dress was completely uneven on one of its sides) and the backs were not touched. I paid $70 for the two dresses and for the sleeves to be hemmed on a jacket. This was especially upsetting because I needed the dresses done fast for an interview happening that weekend. I called and the owner told me he doesn't do refunds on the phone and to bring the dresses in. So I did. When I refused to try on the dresses and instead started telling him what was wrong, he held the dresses close to his chest and refused to give me a refund. He said he basically couldn't do what I originally asked. So why did she do it? My boyfriend calmly asked him to listen to him so he could explain what we were unhappy with and he was barely able to do that. Not only was he completely rude, unsympathetic and said "it was not his problem" but he then told us to leave. Unbelievable considering another customer was in the store. I wanted to like this place, I really did. I brought two dresses in to be altered for a wedding - one for me, one for my three-year old daughter. I was 12 weeks pregnant at the time and needed the seams let out of the bridesmaid dress I was to wear to accommodate my expanding waist and bust. I expected the tailor to suggest to me how to make the dress fit better; instead, he asked me what I wanted him to do. (Um, that's why I'm here? Paying for you to suggest the alterations?) I picked up the dress a week later and brought it home without trying it on (my mistake). Realized that it was too loose. Brought it back. He tried to tell me that maybe I'd lost weight in the meantime (hello, I'm pregnant? If anything, I gained). Then I realized he didn't want to fix the dress unless I paid him more. Very annoyed, I informed him that I just wanted the dress to fit and tell me what it would cost. He asked for an additional $20. I thought, fine, but that's the last $20 I give your business - is it really worth it to you? Wouldn't you rather make me happy and have me come back? He made the alterations and I have not been (and will not be) back. I've taken my business elsewhere (really like the new tailor, so I guess that's the silver lining). The cherry on top was that I needed to use the bathroom (12 weeks pregnant, remember), and asked politely if I could use his, and he said no! I then ran an errand down the street at the Postal Annex, where they very graciously allowed me to use the bathroom, even though I'm pretty sure their signage says it's for employees only. read more

PHYSICALLY THROWN OUT OF HIS SHOP Very bad experience. Not only did they not do what I paid for, but when I pointed this out, they began yelling at me. At first they offered to give me a portion of my money back, but then the angry male owner told me he would not refund any money. He pointed his finger in my face and yelled at me to get out. He then grabbed my arm twice and pushed me out, throwing my dress on the sidewalk. I called the police who came. While I was waiting for the police to arrive the male owner came out and told me I could not stand on the sidewalk in front of his store. That I needed to go across the street, which I did not do. The police arrived, very helpful, spoke with the owner who agreed to give me 30.00 of the 35.00 back. The money was never the issue, it was that the owners immediately became confrontational and their unwillingness to even attempt to correct the situation. Next morning update. I initially went here recommended by a friend. They actually made a slight mistake with my pants OR you could say I didn't communicate what I wanted well enough without having my garments properly pinned on me. Always try on !!! Take your business elsewhere! I had a dress altered here almost a year ago and it was fine. It was a bridesmaid dress that needed to be taken in and I didn't have any complaints. I came here again last week to get another bridesmaid dress altered and it was AWFUL! I tried on the dress and as she was pinning it I was asking for her opinion since she tailors clothes for a living. She said, "you tell me what you want done" instead of offering anything helpful. Then she tried to take in the top of a strapless dress on one side only - even as it was pinned I could tell that wasn't going to end well. It looked extremely uneven! All in all she was rude and impatient as I tried to decipher exactly how to alter the dress. When I finally said that I think I had changed my mind (didn't really want to give this place my business at that point) she took the pins out and walked away. Didn't apologize, look at me, or even say goodbye when I left the building. Take your money to someone who realizes they are running a business! read more

I have used other alteration businesses but I choose this one. They have done 6-8 items for me over a few months and I am picking up 2 more soon. It is family owned and ran. Took my custom Leather Motor Cycle Repsol Jacket in to have to taken in at the Waist, Salim is THE MAN!!! He did it so perfect. All other alteration shops I tried here in Oregon wouldn't even attempt to take on my Jacket, claiming it was "to difficult" Not Salim, He looked at my Jacket, gave me a LOW price to fix, it and did an EXEMPLARY JOB. if you have any alterations, you need done, Look no further, A-1 is the place to go!!! read more

The customer serivce was awful, not sure if the lady didnt like me or just didnt like customers in gereral. had a tear in my cycling tights that I need a quick mend on. I would give negative stars if possible. HORRIBLE costumer service. I have used them three times due to convenience, but three times has been three times too many. I feel like I'm an inconvenience to them and when they screw up, which they did on my last alteration, they blamed it on some other employee!! The male owner specifically told me he would use the same thread color for the alteration, but that did not happen. After reading the good review about the leather motorcycle jacket alterations, I took in my leather jacket to have the sleeves shortened. It was a complicated pattern that was no problem for them. I was so impressed I had them alter another coated nylon motorcycle jacket and riding pants. Again, I could not be more pleased with the results. Thumbs up! read more

Couldn't be happier... brought my favorite old leather jacket in with a busted zipper. They replaced it with something much better than the original. Promised it on Friday and it was ready and waiting on Friday. This must have been a complicated job, as they had to practically take the whole jacket apart to replace the zipper... and it's a really heavy, stiff leather. $50 to repair a priceless coat seems like a good deal, considering how much time and skill this must have taken (and what it would have cost to buy a new leather jacket).
