Delicious homemade Puerto Rican food. Hands-down the best on the island. Not that there are a lot…read moreof Puerto Rican restaurants on the island. But this place is excellent No matter how many you have... My usual is the pernil plate-- tasty pulled pork with your choice of sides. I usually like the yuca or plantains, and gandule rice. Tried the bean stew hanchules today--so good on the rice. Also got to watch them make the pasteles. Stevena the owner said that in Puerto Rico they only make this for special occasions. But here everybody wants it all the time, and she sells out of them. Small parking lot out front and outside seating. But with the heat in Waianae, I would definitely sit inside in the air-conditioning. Definitely one of my go to places on the west side. Always friendly service.

The rice and plantains are always so amazing tho. I've been wanting to try them out lately so I did a Door dash order and got their Steak Mofongo! It was good. A lot of garlic which I don't mind because I love garlic, a pina colada and Tres Leches. Since I did Door Dash and didn't sit in I'm sure the condensation made my tostones a little soft but they're normally so crunchy. I didn't dine in to get serviced and experience the inside of the restaurant for the ambiance and I know that does mess up food quality since I'm not getting it hot from the kitchen. I will need to dine in next time to get the true quality. Overall I will definitely try out the restaurant and dine inside for a change.

Great service and ambiance . Had the pleasure of trying the steak quesadilla and steak burrito …read more Steak quesadilla was phenomenal. The 30 dollar steak burrito didn't match the price and quality burrito was filled with mostly beans and rice and very sloppy when inspected on the inside

It's one of the main restaurants that a small group of hotels offer, along with a sports bar, Eggs and Things, Monkeypod, and a new poke place that's in the same shopping center with the ABC store. Mekiko Cantina sits in a gorgeous location right in front, with plumeria trees and green all around. They have indoor and outdoor seating, both are fine, but you do get the benefit of AC inside if it's too humid for your liking. Our family ordered and the food came out not too much longer. In the meantime, we got a chip platter and frozen mango alcoholic drinks which were tasty and a good size! The food is basic Mexican food, like tacos and rice and beans. It's all somewhat unseasoned though, meaning you should probably add something yourself. Truthfully, it's not the best Mexican food ever, but they offer a nice view, indoor and outdoor seating, a good atmosphere, and basic food. The service is fine, as we've never had an issue here with much. Additionally, this is one of the few restaurants that accept the meal vouchers that some of the hotels give to their guests to redeem, so if you do use the voucher, expect to pay for tax and tip, typically.

My partner and I was craving Mexican food, and if you've read my last Hispanic food review, you'd…read moresee that I mentioned that my partner is very critical of Hispanic food (because he is Hispanic), so when we decided to get Mexican food we decided to make the drive out to Kapolei from town to try a new spot. This spot is a very large establishment. They have a sports bar inside and a lot of seating in and outside (covered). We opted to sit outside and despite being decently busy, we were seated pretty quickly. Our waitress was friendly and we were able to order and get free chips and salsa (two kinds). We got: * Horchata: 7/10 this was okay. I don't usually care for horchata but my partner thought it wasn't bad (he's very picky about the horchatas here in Hawaii) * Carne Asada Torta: 10/10 WOW this was my first ever torta and it was SO GOOD. Ruined all other tortas for me since. My partner said it was the best torta he's had in Hawaii so far too. The bread was fluffy and light while having a very nice crust. It was cheesy and all the toppings went very well together. The carne asada was also pretty smokey and flavorful. MMM would drive back to Kapolei just for this again hah. * Carne Asada Quesadilla Grande: 6.7/10 this was okay too. I didn't realize that the toppings (pico, guac, sour cream) would be INSIDE of the quesadilla. First time I've had a quesadilla made this way, it was very... wet?... not TERRIBLE but a very different experience than I expected (and taste obviously) * California Fries: 5.7/10 literally the worse California fries I've had... but hey fries, cheese, and meat... can't go wrong with that. The cheese was more of a sauce than actual cheese. The fries weren't fresh. The meat was okay, same meat as the ones in the torta and quesadilla but, without all the toppings, the negatives couldn't be hidden (like the super chewy pieces, etc) * Birria Tacos: 4/10... Worse birria tacos I've had as well. The flavors just weren't coming through. The tortillas should have more color on it. Needs more cheese. The consommé should be more concentrated in my opinion. The only upside is they didn't skimp on the meat. The service was pretty quick and this seems like a solid spot for tortas (idk about some of the other items). Would probably be a good spot for a large party.

Found a spot in Wahiawa for some good Mexican breakfast…read more Ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo, half order of French toast and the loco moco with green chili. Delicious! Nice service nice place. Def will be back.

I'll be honest and say that I'm not well versed in the names of Mexican food, but anytime I try something, I usually love it. The food here was great! Tasty and filling, which makes sense because the owner of Barrio is also the same owner of our favorite Mexican place, El Palenque! I would say that the food here is a more refined and cultivated style of Mexican food. Definitely need both restaurants to stay for a long time though because I need to have both experiences in my life. Now I need to say that if you visit, it is a MUST to order their Churro French Toast. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it is the absolute best French toast I've ever had in my life. It was HUGE especially for the price it is. I thought it would be small and ordered a burrito, but I was wrong. I couldn't even touch my burrito afterwards. The rice here is THE BEST. I've never had Mexican rice that had soooo much flavor and has the perfect, non-mushy texture. I would be happy just eating this rice for an entire meal. The place is pretty small, but big enough for a sit down meal. It was really cute and unique with the story of the founder/head chef on the back of the menu, the clay pots behind the counter, and all of the unique colorful decorations everywhere. I've never been to Mexico, but I felt like I could actually experience what it would be like in this restaurant. I really liked that most of our food came out in plates/wraps that we could take-out just in case we didn't finish our food. Although, I might be alone in that thought, as some people like to have their meals at sit-down-restaurants on plates. Okay, so the minor downsides; the water cups were in those tiny cups that you use to swish out the paste from your mouth at the dentist's. It's been a really hot summer and I felt bad when the server would keep filling up our 1-sip-cups. We eventually kept getting up to refill them ourselves since there was a water dispenser on the counter. But I really don't think it's fun to keep standing up during a meal. Maybe it's part of the theme? The one food item I didn't care for was the Steak & Eggs made into a burrito. I felt like it was more like a bean and eggs burrito. It didn't feel balanced to me and it felt like it was missing something to really give it that mmm taste. The last thing was that it was kind of confusing how we would pay. I'm so used to getting a check at the table or the server alerting us that we need to pay at the register. I don't mind either, but we kind of just sat there a little confused until we asked how to pay. That's super minor though, and could just be because our server was busy. I get it, I'm not that much of a stickler.
