I love this tattoo studio!!!!!! I walked into the two other newer studios in this town, just to give them the benefit of the doubt. Forget it, maybe if I wanted to buy some t shirts, earrings or something having nothing to do with actual tattooing I might go back. For me it's Living Arts, they were here first and still are the best. Anytime I am in town and looking to get tattooed, forget shopping around, I will go for experience!!!! Scott is the best!!!!! I will take someone who actually knows what they are doing over anyone trying to be cooler than thou that just started tattooing a minute ago for my permanent masterpieces. read more

I concur with Emeyesi. Scot did my half sleeve and I couldn't be happier with it. Scot and Coleman are excellent at what they do and they're really personable. And yes, the studio environment is completely true to character of a traditional tattoo parlor. It's very clean and isn't pretentious like some other studios in the area. read more

I will never, I repeat NEVER get a tattoo. But if I DID, I wouldn't go to anybody else for one. I've sat in on numerous sessions where my friends (and in some instances strangers) got inked up at Living Art and I'm always awed by their work and the character they display while doing it. These are just the most awesome, colorful guys you will ever meet. True artists with a wealth of knowledge about the history of body modification and some of the most entertaining stories from the world of tattooing you will ever hear. They've also done work on a number of women I've seen naked in various milieus and it's always made their bodies that much more breathtaking. read more

I walked in for a consultation with Steven Von Staats and he told me no. I was asking for a tattoo on my wrist that meant a lot to me and he told me it was over done and that he didn't want my first tattoo to be there. I walked away extremely upset. I got my first tattoo with Scot back in 2010 (or was it 2011?) at the suggestion of a friend and I had such a pleasant experience. As I contemplated my 2nd tattoo years later, I knew there was only one place to get it and it was to go back to Living Art and work with Scot. I asked a lot of probably unnecessary questions and Scot (such a patient and knowledgeable man!) answered them all. I was also able to see all the steps he took to make sure that everything was safe and sanitary which is a huge plus in my book because I have seen some sketchy shiz. There is no doubt that I will be coming back for my 3rd tattoo, just have to settle on a design. read more

I'm not from Massachusetts so I didn't have any word of mouth to tell me where to get my first tattoo. That being said, I was in the area and called different tattoo parlors to get a consultation. The first thing that impressed me about Living Art Studio was that the lady on the phone was extremely nice and helpful. As a tattoo newbie, she let me know what to expect and gave me tips on how to perfect my tattoo. When I got there, the place was amazingly clean. The people were friendly and I didn't have wait long for my artist, Dave, to be ready. He did my tattoo just the way I wanted it fairly quickly and at a great price. He made my first tattoo experience awesome and I will definitely be going there again. read more

This is an establishment I would NOT enter. I have a friend with a service animal and they were quite rude and unaccommodating to her needs. They left her outside with her dog in 20 degree weather while another friend had requested the shop attendant/owner (?) please put the shop dog in another room as to not distract her working dog. The shop attendant/owner (?) told her to just put her service dog back into her car! The problem with this is Her Dog is a mobility dog. If her dog is not with her she is not able to purchase goods and services. By the way this is breaking Federal Law. When she brought this to his attention it was met with cruel remarks. This is not the kind of place that would ever get any of my money. As a matter of fact, he has already taken too much of my energy. I can forgive but I will never be a customer. read more

Small, very clean studio. Coleman was very helpful and friendly when I came in w/a design. He did a small tattoo on my upper arm, the fine lines came out great. My coworker is in the process of getting a sleeve done by coleman, and it looks fantastic. High quality work, from a small unassuming shop. read more

Got my ink done 8 years ago by Coleman here... GREAT experience. They're small, which is awesome. Very kind and patient people. I almost passed out from low blood sugar (hadn't eaten since breakfast). I drew up my tat myself, they just placed it and inked it up, but did a fabulous job doing so! I just got my first tattoo at Living Arts, and I have to say I would not have wanted to get it anywhere else. Scott has years of experience and pride in his artwork. The place is clean, the music is nice (once I walked in when they were playing jazz), and the rotating gallery they feature really lends to a cool vibe. Steve Von Staats has been working with me on a large, complex, 30+ hour tattoo. He is absolutely terrific - taking a lot if extra time to make sure the concept works in reality. He has both listened to what I want and made great suggestions to improve it. His tattoo work is just terrific and he is a pleasure to work with. I am only doing a piece this large once in my life and I am super glad to be doing it at Living Arts with Steve. read more

I lived near Northampton for many years and I got my tattoo here shortly after Scot opened the store in 2001 when MA legalized tattooing - can't remember the exact year but he was established by then. We picked the place which was close to home because we thought it was a good omen to be located directly across the street from the Northampton BOARD OF HEALTH! My husband went here first for a cover up of a small outdated and fading tattoo from 20 years earlier - he and Scot discussed the design and selected a much better one for him - it was a howling wolf who greatly resembled our beloved dog. Husband was more than pleased with the result and gets many compliments on it to this day so I went in for a coverup of my county fair tattoo (don't ask when or why this happened) haha! He and I discussed the design and Scot drew something up (traditional Japanese Koi design) and I was very happy with the end product - In my opinion, it wasn't totally complete so I went back a year or two later and Scot put on some finishing touches to the original design. The coverup was perfect - that old faded butterfly is now totally underwater! Fast forward to 2014 - I wish Scot were closer to where I now live (Oakland CA) to do my next cover up - artists in the Oakland tattoo places seem too "full of themselves" to help me to make a decision on anything. I may have to return to work with Scot if I ever visit Northampton again. Bottom line - Scot is a pro and you can't go wrong at this shop. One piece of advice for those on the fence about getting their first tattoo - put it where you personally can't see it every day - it's easier to get used to that way and your body art will never bore you. If ever you change your mind, you can always try a coverup later! read more

I got an awesome tattoo at Living Art Studio this week. I previously had checked out three other studios and was not satisfied or comfortable with what I saw. At LAS, Scot Padget and his staff are professional and personable, and Scot's talent is top-notch. Scot explained the process to me clearly and he was easy to and fun to collaborate with on this big project. He also came in on his days off to accommodate my unusual schedule (I was temporarily in town from out of state for only a few days). The end result was a beautifully designed and executed tattoo. I went in this shop randomly on a whim while in town about a year back and met some of the nicest artists I've ever dealt with in one of the most professional shops I've been tattooed in. I've had multiple artists work on my body all over MA. scot from living art is by far my favorite, he was extremely polite and did not rush me at all. A tattoo is on your body forever and some artists don't care about you as a person they want to rush you in and out take your money and never see you again and most of all (at least with my experience) is that their cocky and rude. scot not only did a wonderful job and the tattoo he did for me is my favorite out of all the ones I have at the time I was in a financial rough spot but had made the appointment a while prior so I was damned if I was going to bail on my tattoo. While he was working on me I vented my woahs and personal problems and when everything was done I asked how much I owed him and he was such an nice guy he knocked the price down by a huge amount just to try and help me out. Greatest experience ever. I have another appointment to go get more work done with him in the next month and will always be going back to living art. read more
