This piercing shop is incredible! I go here for all of my piercings and got my septum done back in January of this year. I was having issues getting it to heal so I went in to get it checked out, Penelope instantly knew what was going on with it and changed my jewelry. She also made me more aware of how to tell great quality from poor quality jewelry as well as good materials to get jewelry made from. I'm not usually someone to write a negative review however, when I was in the shop yesterday the girl working the jewelry counter was especially miserable and it made me uncomfortable to ask for any assistance. It seemed very apparent that she was either having a rough day or hates her job. They have really talented piercers and tattooers, it'd be a shame to lose customers because of the front of house service. I left without the items I wanted to buy, and felt super bummed! I have been a HUGE fan of Penelope for over a decade, and thought I'd never want to see another piercer. But, since Penelope pierced my nose in September, I've had to pop in several times for various quick services and Tuesday is the best day for me. So, I've seen a lot of Eric since October and I think HE is fabulous! He is great at making you feel comfortable, explaining what he'd doing and he's so easy-going. I grew up in Northampton but currently live in Texas. I feel like every time I'm home, my mom pulls me to Haven to get some sort of body modification. Since our favorite tattoo artist has moved on to another studio, we typically only do piercings at Haven. I've gotten my tragus on both sides, and most recently I got one of the trademarked Earhearts in my daith. Both piercings healed with no problems and I absolutely ADORE them! I need to give a serious shout out to Jay (might be just J?) who is the best piercer I've ever had. He is professional, funny, and the clincher for me was when I overheard him piercing a little girl ahead of me in line. He was SO good with the kid and put her right at ease. "Who's in charge here?" he asked, and after the kid pointed at every adult in the room she was shocked when he said "YOU, you are in charge!" and went on to tell her that it's totally up to her 1. if she wants to get pierced, 2. if she wants to stop at any time, and 3. when to go. He truly put the power in the kid's hand and her fear diminished. I needed the boost myself, as I always panic a bit before facing a needle. Thankfully, Jay is quick and gentle. I hardly felt the needle go in at all! And now I have some kick ass piercings to show for it. I am probably going to save all my piercings for home visits, because I love this place so much. I've been going here for years and got my first piercing here on my 14th birthday. They have always been professional and put safety before profit. I have multiple piercings from them. My daughter had her original lobe piercings stretched. Eric was fantastic. The two stars are for the business itself. They will nickel and dime you. We had paid $70 for two lobe piercings, but only had stretch which should have been $30 total. AJ couldn't figure out how to price it and Jess told him since we already paid, too bad. So, we were overcharged to begin with. The jewelry pricing is also not posted anywhere and they are super cagey about answering pricing questions. We won't return for these reasons. read more

I traveled 45 minutes out of my way to come to this place a couple days before Christmas. I arrive to my appointment 20 minutes early and was told that I wasn't going to be seen for about 30 to 45 minutes after my initial appointment time. I could not wait. I was on a time constraint and I had to be back in Springfield mass For a certain time. I don't always get to travel to North Hampton that much. These people are not willing to refund me my deposit when there was no services rendered. I have sent emails to the manager. I have called multiple times no one has reached back out to me. It's extremely unprofessional I don't understand a no refund policy for the deposit if there was absolutely no service rendered. read more

This place deserves 0 stars. I went to get my 4th piercing on my lobe. All I was told was that the earrings are going to be $85 and then the piercing was going to be $35. When I went to pay they charged me $300. What they didn't mention is that it costed $85 each for the earring, $35 each for the piercing, PLUS $22 each for the backing of the earring, with ADDITIONAL other charges. Daith pierced with a one of a kind 18K yellow gold heart. The ladies at the front were very pleasant, patient and helpful. Haven has a very nice selection of unique jewelry (of various metals). There's a nice seating area with a comfy sofa and chairs. I really appreciated that the jewelry and the piercing needle are both taken out of the sterilizer in front of the customer. Brook was my piercing technician and she washed her hands and changed her gloves several times during the preparation of the process, she's extremely clean and knowledgeable. Since I have several other piercings, she asked if I wanted her to go over care instructions with me and I said yes (one can never hear things enough). She thoroughly went over care instructions and estimated healing time. I chose Haven based on the recommendation of a co-worker and I recommend them to others! read more

Made an appointment with Penelope the owner for 4:30 today. Confirmation email told me to show up 15 minutes prior to my appointment. I was checked in at 4:15 and sat and waited until 4:55 for our appointment even though it didn't appear that there was anyone before us. She was walking around and laughing and talking while keeping us waiting. Then, when we finally get into the room, she tells me to pull up my mask and lectures me on the importance of wearing a mask while running 3 air purifiers in the room, being very condescending and pretentious. Finally, after 20 minutes of listening to her talk about herself, she pierced my daughter, telling her how imperative it was NOT to touch these piercings. Well, she was so worried about mask wearing that she PIERCED the mask to one of the piercings and then had to TOUCH the piercing to fix it. Absolutely ridiculous. Will never return. read more

Piercer made me feel taken advantage of and did not inform me before and when the piercing didn't go well. Messed up the piercing itself and caused excruciating unnecessary pain. Appalling service and disrespectful behavior from both the owner and the piercer. Please do not go and choose another studio for a better experience. I really hate leaving bad reviews but my experience here was so disappointing that I felt I would be doing a disservice to the community if I didn't say anything. Penelope pierced my nose about 8 months ago and I ended up taking the jewelry out because it was not healing. To my dismay, after the swelling went down, I see I have a noticeable crater around the piercing site. I am hoping it will fill in over time but I fear permanent damage to the cartilage. I had an incident four months or so after the piercing where the jewelry was nearly pulled out of my nose and I must have needed to change to a longer post to accommodate the swelling. I called and talked to someone at the desk and told her I was concerned and she said Penelope would call me back, but she did not. I brought up my concerns about the healing process several times and even went in person to have it looked at and each time was told everything was fine. I emailed Haven to tell them of my terrible experience and how I had to remove the jewelry and now have a crater in my nose and received the longest, most defensive, condescending and dismissive response. Essentially Penelope blamed me for getting a piercing during the pandemic and wrote off my nose dent as "scarring". Trust me, this is not normal scarring, and I am fully aware that if you poke a needle through your face, it will leave a mark. Please just go somewhere else to get your piercing done. Maybe everything will be fine if you go here, but if something goes wrong, they will not help you and they will blame you for whatever issues come up. There are so many options in the area to get pierced, there is no reason to take the risk of going here. read more

Everyone we interacted with on the phone when we made the appointment, to the counter when we browsed jewelry was very kind, professional, and knowledgeable. Phenomenal piercing place! Definitely worth my ride all the way from Worcester to Northampton. I was so into a jewelry piece from Buddha Jewelry Organics that I made a purchase online first so I could have it ready for the daith piercing. Problem came up when the local piercing shop and Lucky's piercing place both denied to perform a daith piercing on my ear because the ring was bought outside the studio. Unlike these two shops, Haven Body Arts quickly solved my issue as soon as they finished determining if the ring was appropriate for an initial piercing or not. The counter staff and Jay-the piercer were both friendly and did a wonderful job! Will be back for more piercings. read more

I came in with an infected nipple piercing done at another studio in nyc. The piercer actually knew the studio I went to in nyc and the specific piercer which put me at ease and showed me that he's extremely knowledgeable. He recommend I increase the barbell size and if that didn't work I should eventually remove it. But increasing the barbell size definitely worked for a few months! But unfortunately the piercing was never able to heal on its own due to no fault of the piercers. The time I spent here was quick and effective and I felt like I was in great hands! read more

My group of friends decided we would be impulsive, and all get tattoos together. After looking on Yelp, we found Haven Body Arts. I wish we hadn't. That isn't to say that Penelope and the woman behind the counter weren't incredibly helpful, because they were. I'm here to tell you, that unless you want to be sexual harassed, insulted, and spend your entire night getting hit on by a gross tattoo artist named Anthony, I would avoid this place. My girlfriend left in tears, as she spent 3 hours getting a simple tattoo, while 90% of the time, she had to fake laugh at this guys jokes, stories of him dating porn stars, invitations to seedy clubs, and the disturbing reality that he would pretend to accidentally tattoo the wrong part of her body, by touching her with the other side of the tattoo gun. We all have tattoos from different places, and this was by far the worst experience of our tattooed lives. If he picks a girl in your group, and tells you all that none of you are allowed to come back to accompany her, and help her feel comfortable while she has a stranger stick her with a needle, leave immediately! I wish we would have. We're contacting authorities and the better business bureau after this nightmarish experience. read more

First off -- this place is by far the most expensive in town, and definitely NOT because it's worth it. Customer service is awful -- I went to Haven a few weeks ago with my friends for a "deal" which was $10 piercings - not including the jewelry. Jason was supposed to be doing our piercings, which were all simple cartilage piercings. He talked our ear off telling us the wierdest stories about how people in Wallmart look like gophers and why so many people are so stupid -- he wouldn't pierce our ears for at least 45 minutes, and that's not even including the hour long wait we had while other people were getting pierced before us. After I had finally been pierced I looked in the mirror to find that he had put in the wrong colored stud -- I asked him if he could change it, and he was super rude to me. He told me if I wanted a different color I'd have to buy both. For a mistake that he made, I think that's pretty ridiculous. I ended up leaving with a color I didn't want. When they rang us up, the total was about $50 for each of us -- that's with their "deal"! It took over 3 hours to get a simple cartilage piercing, and was very expensive - I definitely won't be going back to this place, and neither will any of my friends. read more

Sadly disappointed. I've been here for a few piercings. I enjoyed my time at the shop as I previously had. I felt comfortable, the shop was clean, the staff was very friendly and helped put me at ease throughout my visit. When I got home I curiously decided to check their site, where I was lead to discover a 25% discount on all piercings they were apparently offering. Piercings can get expensive, and as a customer, that is not always a bad thing. This is something going in your body, administered by a stranger. You want the best material / most knowledgeable and experienced staff you can get. However, knowing they were aware of the chunk of money I could've saved and chose to let me spend all that extra money didn't sit right with me. On top of that chunk I could've saved, I purchased the saline solution through them, to bring it home and find it unable to even be used based on what the bottle warns - "tab is broken and canister should not be used" .... I live about 40 minutes from here to return the can which shouldn't have been faulty in the first place to a healthy business that didn't bother bringing their discount to my attention-- a returning costumer more than willing to spend money/support a business which seemingly had their costumers best interests at heart Will be looking for a new shop for any future piercings/tattoos read more

First let me say that I have always had the greatest respect for Penelope. One of the absolute best around. But, I have never felt more uncomfortable or been treated worse by an ignorant, uneducated, uncaring staff than the one she currently employs here. The Hispanic gentleman behind the counter had little knowledge of jewelry solutions, but instead kept texting Penelope who was supposed to be back "soon", which never ended up happening. At one point I was passed off to an ignorant and uncaring Gene. When I told him what I wanted he finally said, "I don't know, you have to talk to Penelope...by the way, she's not coming back (as I was previously told) until tomorrow. Leave your name and number and I promise she'll call you tonight". No call, nothing.... By the way, their collection of Jewelry is the smallest and lamest of all piercing shops in Noho. So I took a walk down the street and stepped into Lucky's, where Penelope started. Wow, what a total difference. Ton's of great, relevant jewelry, knowledgeable staff with a can do attitude. Asked to talk to the piercer and Zach was right there. He quickly gave me options for what I wanted to do and made suggestions. I felt totally at ease. And I didn't have to order jewelry like a Haven. I was in and out in no time and the line of patrons was significant and tended to by the staff pleasantly and quickly. I'm sorry Penelope, but your staff doesn't measure up to where you started. Might be time to take a second look if you hope to keep up with the business of your competitors. I had a really good experience here. I got one of their ear hearts which were on special for $35 just for Valentine's Day. Becky was my piercer and she did an amazing job. The pain was minimal and her space was both clean and comfy. The place itself is very clean and has a contemporary feel. The staff is very friendly. After reading other reviews on here, I was very excited to get my second tattoo here. However, I was very dissapointed with the service. Cai did my tattoo, and it was done up beautifully. I could not have done it better myself. But, I was not given any after care instructions to take home. I was not given a copy of the waiver that I signed. I found this to be very upsetting where I was treated differently at the first shop I got my tattoo. I am trying to not compare the two, but I would think these are pretty standard things that should be done anywhere you get a tattoo done. read more

I've had both piercings and tattoos done here at Haven and have had PERFECT experiences each and every time. Brian is a amazing artist. His line work is clear and dark. His colour work is award winning. He's able to pull off intricate and grand. (He has also won an award for full leg piece.) Penelope is the foremost piercer in the area. Even her apprentices are more able and skilled than most other shops. If you have something esoteric you want done, she's going to be the one you want to go to. They carry a tremendous stock of jewelry, and someone is usually available to help you choose what would be best. read more

The second Penelope left Lucky's and set up her own shop, I knew where I'd be heading for the next few years. Unfortunately, Penelope has had to limit her hours really recently for health reasons, but the other piercers in the shop are great too! Haven is centrally-located in a clean, bright shop. Prices for piercings/jewelry are a little high but I'd willingly (and did) pay extra knowing that it's quality work that won't have to be worried about/done twice/fixed/etc. Tons of jewelry options and cases of cool plugs/tunnels/etc. The tattoo I got was competitively priced and beautiful (I had Brian, who has since gone home to the midwest). Piercings are done with a ton of communication, double-checking, and aftercare (both with instructions and the fact that you can come in if you have any trouble afterwards and get it looked at). Penelope has even checked out two piercings that I got done other places-- I can't remember if it was free or something like $5, but SO worth it. read more

This place was a disappointment for me. I came into Body Haven to get a new back for a conch piercing to replace the original I had lost. I'm not so adroit with screwing it on, so I figured that while I was there, the piercer should do it for me. Big mistake. The man behind the counter told me that it would be "a little while," with a tone that implied more than a few minutes. After an hour and a half of waiting, I came up to the counter and asked how many people were before me. It was six. Six! He said he had told other people (but not me) to leave and come back, and it would be about another hour. Seriously? It was also a Saturday and they only had one piercer and one tattoo artists working. Judging by this two and a half hour wait, one would think that they would plan for this and perhaps hire more artists for the shop? I felt tricked and asked for my earring back, which was in a little cup behind the counter for when my turn came. All the man said to me was, "yeah...." I said he should have told me it would be two and a half hours, but of course he didn't respond to this comment. As I walked out, he said "wait do you have your ID and all that?" No apology. No "come again some other time." Nothing. Quite an unpleasant experience and a huge waste of my time. I even cancelled an appointment at the apple store because I was uninformed about how long the wait would be here. Maybe I could have given a review similar to the other ones already posted, if I had gotten past the waiting room lobby. For now, all I can say is that the lack of information shared with me, along with the lack of artists when the demand was obviously high, reflected a lack of competence that was unprofessional and frustrating. I went in to get my anti-eyebrow pierced and Jay took care of me. He was so gentle and walked me thru what was going to happen before it was going to happen. I have never had such an amazing experience! I wish I could get it done 10000 times over. Seriously no pain!!!
