    Yoga Shala

The LiveMetta Pilates & Yoga studio is an exquisite shala in Laguna Beach. This location offers two studio spaces, one dedicated to Pilates, and one for yoga. Both studios are bathed with natural sunlight that shines in through the windows, offering a glow while you flow. I love the calming energy of the yoga studio. To enter, one must pass through a grand set of massive wooden doors, where you will be greeted by views of the ocean, lined with the California palm trees. A platform in the center of the room houses a beautiful sculpture of Ganesha, beside this altar, a glass case replete with crystal sound bowls and musical instruments charges in the corner, in addition, throughout the room candles lay placed in symbolic patterning. A separate studio down the open air walkway, the Pilates room, boasts numerous reformers and specialty equipment. A selection of vibrant green plants spring from modern wooden frames along the walls, and the gentle waves of the ocean lapping against the shore can be heard. Among the instructors Lisa Montano is an excellent for foundational instruction of Pilates. Kylie Swenson's Pilates classes were fun and fast paced, with an invigorating energy that made you want to get up and move! JoAnna Haszek is an incredible Iyengar instructor, a great practitioner and teacher, that really guides clients into accessible ways to incorporate postures and evolve their practice. Iram Cheema's Kundalini, Breathwork, Sound, and Meditation classes are inspirational. I was fortunate enough to attend Iram's kundalini classes at both the Laguna Beach and Laguna Hills LiveMetta locations, and each class she leads always is transcendent and authentic to the Kundalini practice. Jenny Day's Pilates classes are joyous, progressive, and delightful, the energy she brings to her classes is exuberant! Rana Nader and Christine Hardy both offer sound baths which are soulful and soothing. Cynthia Neilson's Iyengar class offers powerful techniques for practitioners to delve further into their practice. Greg Bliss's Flow class provided a range of sequencing that allowed for heart expansion, breath awareness, and interesting postural transitions. Benecia Gutierrez's Reformer Sculpt classes are great for toning and building strength, she scaffolds these Pilates classes in a way that cultivates transformation. I highly recommend the Laguna Beach LiveMetta Pilates & Yoga studio for Yoga and Pilates. I truly have enjoyed learning from, and practicing with, these lovely instructors at this gorgeous location in Orange County.

Very accessible to reach via text and email. Waivers required as well. Now having tried this for the first time in the ocean, I recommend a harbor paddle if the waves may intimidate you or, even, wear my own O'Neill life jacket (jacket is more for returning back to shore). This activity was one for our friends' bucket lists and we all had the best day!! Yelp recommendations did not leave me astray. Thank you! Decided to plan a paddle board rental and beach day with friends for a birthday surprise. If you're planning something like this, I also recommend a patio lunch at the Rooftop Lounge as it is not far either from theLaguna Beach location where we met Erin. We were a small group of four and she accommodated us perfectly. The weather was perfect this week so we didn't need to adjust the time of the excursion either so we enjoyed an early evening two-hour rental. The sunset-ish vibes were incredible too, to be on the ocean. She met us and had our boards and paddles, dry bag (if needed), and our floatation safety equipment on the beach ready for us. She guided us with specific instructions to get out over the waves. She then walks us out with our board and makes sure we go out one-by-one. It was such a rush to get over those waves, because I admit, the ocean can be intimidating. All the places I've swam before, I've never really encountered waves this big or a boat dropped me off to snorkel. Waves are just another element. The best advice was being on our knees and just digging the paddle into the water as fast as possible and next thing I know, we are all out in the ocean having the best time! The experience is amazing and we haven't laughed like this in a long while. I stood up to paddle board only twice, but I fell on the first try. I admit, I felt much more comfortable paddling while on my knees. It was perfect. Note: SAFELY return to shore, come in one-at-a-time as Erin instructs. She and a lifeguard were amazing and helped us return. For me, it was much needed. I am so thankful for their assistance. Those waves, man oh man, a big lesson for me that day, but we are all still reeling, laughing and talking about the day. FYI: If choosing a longer rental as we had, I'd recommend using her dry bag and bring water, a small towel (in case you do go in the water and need to dry salt water from eyes as that does sting) Also, use durable ziplocs to secure anything you may get wet. I also had my phone in one of those necklace protector sleeves and it took surprisingly took great photos through the plastic. Reminder for me to also secure the dry bag on the paddle board straps much more securely too as it did get wet, on accident, in the water when I was returning to shore. The waves knocked the bag off the board but easily retrieved. Just wet because I didn't close it properly-oops. Actually, just assume whatever you take into the ocean will get wet. One friend did lose her Ray Bans, but Erin warned us prior. Oops! Nonetheless, the best birthday surprise!!! So much fun!!! I highly recommend a beach day paddle boarding (find an area you're comfortable with the waves though or stick to the harbor). Don't hesitate to check with Erin because she is so helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you again, Erin, for such a great beach experience.

This was my second full yoga class in my life…read more I took one a week ago and on that Saturday 8/16 felt out of sync, a spectator and wanted to quit at the 26 and 34 minute mark. I did finish that hour long class but not till today, till I experienced Corepower Yoga Mission Viejo's 11 am Community Flow with heat did I get excited, understand it better, connect with what the stellar teacher Danica was saying, moved better, was pumped , was happier and loved the entire 60 plus minutes of sweat and movement. I loved that Danica repeated " at your own pace and do move as far as you can for eg; She was so authentic and kind. She spoke from the heart and connected the class's theme and message to real life using her own example. This stiff 405 pound bench pressing, 1/2 marathon and 5 K running, 3 hours of racquetball playing wanna be muscle head moron found himself starting to get the leg up in certain positions, actually touch my toes without screaming , move better with the stretching and the heat. I felt the crunches today. I mean having a leg up and then going across with the hand behind the head left to right and vice versa was work but lovely! I am hooked. I loved this. The studio was beautiful. They had cleaning supplies and ample wipes visibly available. The lobby area was clean and inviting. The men's locker room was modern with showers and nice lockers. CorePower Yoga Mission Viejo offers classes for all levels. They also have mats and towels available. The first visit either one was free. I had a beautiful experience.

This CPY location has showers (approx. 6 stalls), restrooms, and a small store selling yoga wear in the front. You have to bring your own yoga mat, towel, and water bottle when you come, but they also rent them (yoga mat is $4, towel is $2 i think) at the front. Set in a slightly heated room, it's a combination of CP2, but with weights. CPY ranks this class as an advanced class with medium heat. During this class, we focused on full body (exercises like static lunges, squat to shoulder press, planks, etc.) and also held vinyasa flow poses with weights. I really enjoyed how it was progressively more challenging each time we returned to a sequence. The instructor (Wendy Black) was really energetic and had an upbeat playlist, which was perfect for the class type. I'm glad to have tried this class, and I'll definitely try this format out again!
