I normally don't write reviews, but had to for DJ Mike. DJ Mike really excelled at our wedding. I can't stress how important it is to have a professional who knows when to play the right type of music. Our reception was a non-stop party, and DJ Mike was the reason it flowed so well. I was really surprised with how much time and effort he put into planning and organizing before the wedding. He demonstrated to us that this wasn't just another gig for him, and he truly cared about delivering the performance we wanted. He showed a real understanding for what we were looking for, and helped us with so much more than just music. From ceremony planning to remote microphone and speaker setup, music selection, arranging, editing, timing... he really did it all and we couldn't have been happier. I would hire Jaime Diaz to emcee my life. Jaime provided the music for our wedding ceremony and reception in late January. He worked with our venue's day-of coordinator to ensure our processional songs were in order and had his equipment setup before the guests started arriving. We provided him with a couple dozen of our must-hear songs, and they were all played! He payed attention to our genre requests during our consulting call about a week before the wedding took place and did a great job incorporating those requests, too. We rearranged a couple of reception agenda items (e.g. cake cutting), and Jaime kept all of our requested songs and announcements in order with its corresponding event. We booked Live Oak, specifically DJ Mike Marischen, to play our December wedding. I can recommend both Live Oak and Mike without hesitation. We were slightly hesitant about hiring a DJ since we had already hired a band and just wanted a DJ to fill in between sets and after they finished, as well as to keep things moving on schedule. After our first meeting with Mike, we were sold. Mike spent more than an hour with us during our first meeting talking about musical tastes and our vision of the event generally. After booking Mike, we met with him two more times. He was very patient with us as we laid out our pretty specific music requests. I felt really comfortable throughout the whole process and Mike was a pleasure to work with. We were pretty hands-on with the music selection, and he was very accepting of that. The final meeting was very detailed, and he was very good about confirming all the details so everything would go smoothly. We made heavy use of the online planning tool, which was very helpful during our final weeks before the event. The price paid for Mike's services was very reasonable. The price included multiple planning meetings and all of the necessary equipment, which included some dance floor lighting. The sound system worked great in our larger venue. He brought along a second PA for the front of the venue to use during the cocktail hour prior to the reception. Mike's performance during the wedding was better than we could have imagined. He was very skilled at reading the audience and atmosphere and responding appropriately. He stuck to our requests, but was also able to add things that reflected our tastes. He stayed away from our stated dislikes, even to the point of somehow evading a drunk cousin's boyfriend's multiple requests to hear the cupid shuffle. We are beyond pleased with the result of our decision to hire Mike. He was as much of a hit as the band. Shay was very user friendly as we requested a quote and additional pricing information, and DJ Ray was very helpful along the way and especially on the day-of. The pricing is reasonable, the service is fantastic, and the online playlist planning tool was helpful and included ~95% of our song choices (the others were secured after requesting). DJ Ray was professional and very accommodating throughout the reception, and was not gimmick-y or overly animated (by request, I'm sure they could accommodate if you wanted jokes, etc.) He had everyone dancing almost all night, including my wife who literally ran to the dancefloor across the venue at one point. The company was professional and Jaime had a great personality and was adaptable. When plans changes, as they sometimes do, Jaime was always prepared to take charge of the crowd and keep everyone entertained. The onboarding process was smooth; Live Oak DJ got back to me right away when I inquired about their services and I quickly had a call with Mike. Mike was a great DJ for our wedding. He was professional, organized and talented. He was active throughout the planning process: we had two meetings with him prior to our event to go over music preferences and day-of timeline. He was super accommodating: I had a ton of requests for specific songs throughout our event, and he played them all. By the time I got to the venue, he was already set up and ready to go. DJ Mike was the man. He is so thorough in his approach and is very skilled at what he does. The Live Oak DJ site allows you to easily build a list of songs you would love to hear played, like to hear, and definitely don't want to hear. That, combined with the two or three consultations you will have leading up to your wedding, means you will get exactly what you want when it comes to the big day. Live Oak DJ was an excellent choice for our wedding day. The office was prompt with responses and easy to book and our DJ (Bradley Payne) was fabulous. DJ Bradley Payne was (no kidding) THE BEST. We planned things from out of town, but he always made himself available for a phone call or email. Plus, he met with us in person three days before the wedding. We gave him a list of music we wanted played pre-ceremony, during the ceremony, during dinner, and during the dance portion. He played exactly what we wanted (he bought songs he didn't already have - but he had 95% of them already) and he suggested other songs that were great additions. Our wedding had an epic three hour dance party and Bradley ordered and mixed the songs in the best way possible. No one stopped moving and every transition between songs was perfect. In fact, several wedding guests have asked me for the play list Bradley created. He was also great at making announcements (e.g., cake cutting, toasts, shuttles leaving, etc). This is the first yelp review I've ever written, but It's very necessary. DJ Jonathan was absolutely AMAZING at our wedding! Everyone who attended the wedding said our DJ was the absolute best and that it was the most fun they've had on the dance floor in ages. People that never dance got up there because they couldn't help themselves. From start to finish DJ Jonathan played awesome music that made the ceremony/cocktail hour flow nicely and most of all he had the dance floor packed from start to finish. My wife and I are very picky, but are huge music lovers. We wanted to make sure we heard certain songs throughout the day and DJ Jonathan made that happen. DJ Jonathan was nice enough to meet with us a few times leading up to the wedding to discuss what songs we wanted, didn't want to hear, when we wanted to hear them etc. To make it even easier Live Oak DJ has a very user friendly interface on their website that lets you enter songs you want to hear or even don't want to hear. I honestly can't say enough good things about DJ Jonathan and my wife and I are so happy we chose him to DJ our special day. We're currently trying to think of an excuse for another party to have DJ Jonathan because he was just that good. My husband and I found Liveoak DJ in the beginning of our wedding vendor search, and are both so excited that we did! We worked specifically with Jonathan and he was EXCELLENT!!! He met with us on 3 different occasions to make sure everything was lined up perfectly. My wife and I booked DJ David Miranda from Live Oak DJ to play our wedding in late February. We were very impressed with everything from start to finish and we recommend David (with two thumbs up) to anyone on the hunt for a DJ. We were not sure we wanted to hire a DJ because of the expense, but having been through the experience with David, we wouldn't do it any differently if we had to do it again. David is incredibly professional and met with us multiple times to get a feel for what we wanted. The nicest part was that we didn't have to micromanage anything. Once David knew where we wanted to go with sound and flow of the night, he took over and used our suggestions to build an outstanding playlist/itinerary. The website that is provided by Live Oak for couples/event coordinators is difficult to understand at first, but once you've got the hang of it, it makes planning your event much easier. David actually input a good deal of information based on the meetings we had. It's also worth saying that David was dressed to the nines for our wedding. We really appreciate that he cares about his appearance and considers style a big part of his presence. We had multiple guests comment on the overall beauty of our wedding and the professional dress of our sound engineer. Jacob from Live Oak was an amazing choice for our wedding! He met with us multiple times in advance to make sure he really had a grasp on our vision for the wedding music. He was the most organized person we dealt with during wedding planning, it was a breath of fresh air. He always responded to emails and phone calls quickly. he guided us toward all the music we needed to select for the event. The day of he was super prepared for everything and went above and beyond to run our wedding slideshow for us. He did the ceremony sound as well. Everyone commented how great the music was! We enjoyed every minute of it. Going in to wedding planning, everyone warned me that DJs are "flaky" and don't care much about your event. Jacob blew that stereotype out of the water! The only annoying thing about the whole process is that their music selection system online is a little clunky and we accidentally deleted our music choices a couple times. David Miranda at Live Oak was beyond amazing at our wedding!!! Our top priority at our reception was to have a throw down, awesome dance party and David totally made that happen for us. We had an eclectic crew and he got everyone up and dancing, all friends and even older family members, mixing hip hop, indie, latin, and old school music to suit everyone. He also kept our reception on schedule and moving forward, as we didn't have a wedding planner or day-of coordinator, he was tremendously helpful in that regard as well. We consulted with David beforehand as we initially were looking for a bilingual DJ, as many members of my husband's family speak only Spanish, but in the end we ended up choosing David as he was the whole package and then some, and he even used our given translations during his emceeing to keep our Spanish speaking guests included and pumped up - he was freaking awesome!! My father-in-law was on the dance floor most of the evening as were people we rarely see dancing - made for some very memorable moments and videos! We are so glad we found David - he is incredibly talented and an all around super nice guy to work with, he consulted with us on several occasions before the wedding and made sure everything was as we imagined and more - thank you so much David!!! read more

Booking our DJ for a company event was easy and our DJ was great leading up to the event. Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I wish our DJ had done a bit more than just play music (and text), like pep up the crowd (or else I would have saved $700 and plugged in an iPhone). I researched and researched and researched DJ's for our wedding. At first I was hell-bent on getting a band because I thought all DJ's are cheesy. After realizing no band could possibly play our mix of music - old country, jazz, rock, little bit of a reggae - and do it well, I decided I would find a DJ that wasn't ridiculous. I spoke with about 10 people or more before I spoke with Live Oak DJ and I must say, I was losing hope. I'm not a fan of flashy, swirly lights that you buy at Spencers and I was very picky about what the lights and DJ set up looked like. From the start, Live Oak seemed different. They weren't cheesy, they didn't have uber cheesy pictures on their website of their DJ's and I decided to go with them. I ended up getting matched up with Mike M because they thought he would be the most "our speed." It was a dream! Speaking with him on the phone right after I chose them just really made me feel so comfortable. He explained how the whole process works and what to expect and when to expect it. They even give you an account where you can plan out all your music, intros, special moments and make lists of songs you love, songs you like and songs you don't want anywhere near your venue - and they stick to it. I was very serious about not wanting YMCA, Macho Man, the Chicken dance and other such horrors played at our wedding. Mike was great, he geared everything to our tastes, which range quite a bit. Each song was hand picked and I had so many guests come up to us and comment on how great the DJ was and the music selection and that it all seemed so "us." A lot of times you go to a wedding and if you close your eyes, you wouldn't be able to guess whose wedding you were attending. With ours, everyone kept saying they just knew we picked every song. We met with Mike a few times before the wedding to discuss our expectations and work up a timeline and even met another time to walk the venue. I didn't want to work with a wedding planner and I planned the entire wedding by myself with the help of the vendors. Mike was one of the ones that went above and beyond - he helped me tweak and perfect the timeline. We had a ceremony outside, he provided the mike, speakers and everything for out there, we had a cocktail hour inside the mansion- where he provided everything there as well and then we had the dinner/reception in another room of the mansion and he had a whole other set up in there. He really did a great job and had a seemless transition into everything. He helped keep the entire event on track and moving. The day of, as we were setting up - we were supposed to brief the ushers on when they needed to signal the music change for the ceremony and he decided it might be easier to have his wife come help and he asked if that would be ok. I said of course, and my goodness, she was lovely. She was dressed so nicely and helped the music stay on track for the ceremony and let the wedding party know when to walk and the spacing. Even in the reception she was running back and forth asking me if requests that people had would be ok to play. She was a dream to have! What a wonderful couple! I was so worried about the lighting but he assured me they would be extra mellow and unobtrusive and he was perfectly correct. He did a great job of having a little bit of lighting that pointed on the floor of the dance floor and slowly rotated. It was perfect! I'm so impressed with how well he tailored everything to our needs and our tastes and he just exceeded what I thought was possible for a wedding DJ. Absolutely don't use anyone else but Mike. If you want a classy event, he's the guy to go with. He helped me pick ceremony music and had excellent suggestions and they were perfect for us. He then had the cocktail hour as an upbeat jazzy cocktail feel, dinner was a more mellow spanish guitar and some of our more mellow favorites and then he started out a bit slow and rock n roll/jazz on the dancing and as the crowd dictated he amped it up or slowed it down. He really read the crowd and went with the flow. It was amazing! I could really go on for hours but I would never feel like I did him justice. It was truly perfect. From the get go Ray and his staff were extremely responsive (both over email and phone) to questions and song guidance for various parts of the ceremony and reception. Mike Marischen was the DJ we used for my daughters wedding. The open dancing started at 7pm and went until almost midnight. At that time the dance floor was still packed. I am extremely delayed in writing this review, but better late than never right? We worked with Jacob on our 2.16.13 wedding at Mercury Hall. He was awesome to work with right from the beginning. During our two meetings he came with ideas and recommendations to help me make decisions. I really appreciated that his recommendations came from his experience as a DJ at other weddings, but also his own. I gave him an extremely random list of songs because I love anything from boy bands to country to hip hop. He did a great job of mixing things up and my friends danced all night long. Even my photographer mentioned how much people were dancing. I was very thankful to have him has my DJ. Jacob also gave my grandpa a clip mic to wear during the ceremony (my grandpa officiated) so everyone could hear what we were saying. Jacob set it up so we'd have music outside for the ceremony and cocktail hour and had his main setup inside Mercury Hall. Everything went very smoothly. I would highly recommend him! It's also important to mention that Shay made the whole process of booking, paying etc. very easy! After planning your wedding you'll realize how some vendors can be unprofessional about that, but no worries here. Always quick responses to all my questions. read more

Was able to easily change paces, incorporate a random request from my mother, and kept the party dancing all night, fast and slow--- as well as announce the different events/flow of the evening. Was very disappointed in the outcome after spending a lot of money. DJ was not in-synch with either the ceremony or reception. Mic's and music cut out. Hard to work with. Couldn't download music I wanted. Added fees at the end. The only negative comment I got from people was how poor the DJ was. DJ Sean was gracious in calling me and discussing all the hang-ups I had. Part of the problems stemmed from not living in Austin and not meeting with the DJ more than once prior to the wedding. It's imperative that the DJ attend the rehearsal. read more

I cannot say enough good things about DJ David Miranda! Let me start by saying, the day of my wedding was full of stress -- everyone was running around like chickens with their heads cut off (I decided not to use a wedding coordinator). I planned the entire thing from the vendors to the timeline. David was amazing because he somewhat took the place of a coordinator. I gave him my timeline and he stuck to it. Anything that he was unsure of, he ran by me. That being said, I think both of our lives would have been easier that day if I had used a coordinator, but overall, everything ran smoothly and everyone had an amazing time. I received SO MANY compliments on the music thanks to David. I've never seen so many people out on the dance floor at a wedding, and it was MY wedding, which was awesome! Everyone had so much fun. I hired Sean from Live Oak Photo Booth for a surprise birthday party. I was a little leary of getting my money's worth for 50 people in the 40-60 year old age group. Boy was I wrong. The photo booth was a huge hit and served as an ice breaker as many of the party goers did not know each other. The photo booth equipment and props were in good condition and there were no technical issues of any kind. Sean was there to guide us through the entire process. It was fun to get pictures on the spot and to be able to see all of them on line. We have already made a DVD and have a great keepsake from the party. My now-husband and I had some terrible luck with the first two DJs that we interviewed for our wedding - so bad that we were searching Yelp reviews on our phones for other DJs during the interviews! That's how we came across Live Oak DJ. We were matched with DJ Mike Marischen. From the first time I met with him in a Westlake Starbucks I was extremely impressed. Mike came prepared with a layout of our venue and a printed copy of the (outdoor) venue's sound ordinance. The fact that he'd done his homework for his interview really impressed me. Down payment was easy, and because we are Type A planners we had him booked a solid 9 months ahead of our wedding. He let us know when it was time to start getting serious about selecting some music for our playlist. My husband is big into all the genres that don't really work at weddings (read: obscure indie music) and does not know any current pop music. I, on the other hand, knew that we had to find something that people would recognize, so that they'd dance, but was also wary of Top 40 music. And I am known to go into rage fits over popular wedding choices like line dances (looking squarely at you, Cupid Shuffle) and drunk-college-kid sing-along songs (hate you too, "Sweet Caroline"). And then we had my mother-in-law requesting "It's Raining Men" and other such cringe-worthy hits. Mike somehow found a way to juggle all of this and put together a playlist that got absolutely everyone at the wedding to dance - my parents, our friends, some distinguished UT professors; seriously, people who I thought I would never, ever see dancing at our wedding were on the floor all night long. We trusted Mike to field requests from people and he didn't let us down. I am happy to report that our dance floor was packed all night with no Cupid Shuffle, Kool & The Gang or "Sweet Caroline." We selected only about half of the songs he played, and told him we'd trust his judgement on the rest. He didn't disappoint! There wasn't a single song I didn't like. Mike also did an awesome job as an emcee. He checked with us in advance to make sure he had name pronunciations correct, didn't forget anyone or any announcement, and corralled all the cats for our first dance and cake cutting without being cheesy at all. He put together a playlist of obscure indie music for dinner hour, and it was perfect. My husband loved it. We hired DJ Mike Marischen for our wedding and couldn't be more pleased! Music is what we cared about the most as we wanted our guests to let loose and have a good time that evening. We had several phone and skype meetings with Mike leading up to our big day. He was always organized and made us feel like we were his only client. He was so fun to work with and took direction very well. We wanted an eclectic mix of 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, country and even current hits and he seamlessly tied every song together. Earlier in the night he started with music that he knew the older crowd would enjoy while the younger generations were at the bar. At one point I remember feeling like our friends were all ready to move to the dance floor and Mike effortlessly switched up the music and we stayed dancing the rest of the night. It was such a joy to look around and see all ages screaming out the lyrics and dancing together! I've been to many weddings where the music either makes or breaks the reception and DJ Mike helped us have the party we always wanted. We keep hearing how fun our wedding was and I sincerely give credit to Mike for that. He guided us on our ideas and was honest on what would and probably wouldn't work. He even did a beautiful job editing our first dance song to take out a long instrumental piece. And quickly switched the version of the mother-son dance at the groom's request. DJ Mike was also incredibly responsive and professional in all of our communications. At the end of each meeting he told us the exact "next steps" and would always send follow up emails as reminders of what information he still needed from us. One of our concerns early on was having a DJ that was too vocal and he assured us that, unless his client wants him to, he stays off the microphone outside of the major announcements. He was always attentive and confirmed with us that we were happy with requests as long as it made sense at the time. When an immediate family member requested a slow song when the entire crowd was enjoying dancing at a faster pace, he made sure to ask us first since he knew it would change the vibe. DJ Sean was the DJ at my best friend's wedding on May 19 at Hummingbird House. My best friend and her fiance had moved away about a year before the wedding so I handled the DJ meetings for her. I met with Sean and he was incredibly honest and not pushy at all, like other DJs I'd met with. He is knowledgeable & I really liked how familiar with both music and local Texas/Austin music he is. Overall, Live Oak was great & easy to work with. The wedding day finally arrived & Sean didn't need anything from us and just kept the great music going & I'm sure he took some requests because the dance floor was never empty! Mike from Live Oak was our DJ for our wedding reception... we could not have been happier to have him be a part of our big day, he was so awesome! He did everything we asked... we were very specific about the flow of the evening, the music selection and the amount of announcements... he respected every request and kept the night flowing perfectly! It's no surprise these guys get 5 stars from all the reviewers. They know how to make a party happen. We used them for our December 2013 wedding and the one thing I wanted was everyone dancing and having fun. I definitely did not want the same type of music playing over and over again. Our DJ, Jacob, did an amazing job making sure everyone wanted to dance. The place was rockin from beginning to end and everyone had an amazing time. I truly feel our wedding could not have been successful without him. If you want an awesome, fun and successful party definitely hire these guys! read more
