I recently took a ring to Littman's Jewelers in the Poughkeepsie Galleria in NY for repair of a break in the ring band. I've had the ring for 40 years and never take it off, so I know it well. In my late 20s, I had the shank replaced with a thicker shank to better keep its shape and prevent bending. When I picked my ring up from Littman's, the thickened shank was gone and the ring band was thin again, as it was in its original form. When I asked about this the employee, and then the manager, said this was impossible. I insisted that I knew the ring well, having received it from my grandmother when I was 12yo. The manager said, "Aha!" I was shocked and stated that I was sure of the change due to the service I'd had done to it in my 20s. Again, she said, "Aha!" - implying and then stating that my memory was wrong. She was rude and loud and I quickly became distressed due to the significance of the ring to me, therefore I left the store with no resolution. The next morning, I returned to the store with mall security to ensure I would not be berated again. I was able to get a refund for the service charge and was told I would not have to pay to have the shank restored, however when I returned at the appointed time/day to meet the jeweler, I received worse treatment from the jeweler than I had at the pick-up visit. He yelled that this again was impossible and again was accusatory and belligerent. I have never been treated so poorly at any business in my life. My cherished ring was changed with a reduction of gold in the shank, but even worse, I was treated so badly it was beyond disrespectful - it was aggressive! Not only will I never go there again, I will tell everyone interested about this horrible experience. read more
