Wow. That's all I can say. There's a reason this B&B…read moreconsistently has 5 Stars. My Husband have stayed in similar spots, but the stay at WHI was far above the others. We came to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. Donna and Brian were so thoughtful and professional. They made sure we had everything we needed and wanted for our stay. Breakfast each morning was so delicious. Donna could have made it as a professional chef! We stayed in a dog friendly cabin, what fun to bring along our pup! Cabin was cozy, warm and the snow was shoveled each day for us.

The xc skiing at Devil's Thumb has always been a favorite for us, as far back as the 70's when it was just a rustic ski trail system with a small nordic supply shop. In recent years it became a full fledged resort with lodging where we have often stayed. We have also stayed in Winter Park, about 15 minutes away and driven over to ski. But we have now found our new favorite option. This is such a lovely place, both the facility and the charming staff. It is a better price value for us than some of the other options in the area, yet more than a simple motel in town. You know, like Goldilocks, "just right." I especially want to note that the (included) breakfast that host John cooks for the guests was wonderful, some sweet, some savory, warm, homemade, natural and ample for the start of even an hearty ski day. They take note in advance of special food needs and serve with a choice of time options. The log style of the building is rustic but nicely furnished. The rooms are well designed and furnished with high quality linens and have lots of storage as some guests stay for weeks. The views from each room are very pretty, some to the Continental Divide, some to the woodland. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful. The central lounge area was large, comfortable, attractive and clean and with a central fireplace. There are also some other smaller gathering areas to sit and talk or read if you wish to be outside your room. And there are also some family and dog friendly cabins on site if you want more than a bedroom. Personally, the rooms in the main inn are just right for my needs. We will absolutely be back. It is convenient to local xc skiing and also just a 15 minute drive past the Winter Park Resort and not far at all from several quality dinner options. We met other guests using the lodging for all of these reasons.

We got a coupon off Livingsocial and decided to take a weekend getaway in the mountain. Eddie…read more(spelling?) and her family manage the property. When I called the lodge, she had to walk to the office to take my reservation (since the whole property is only run by 2-3 people and often she is somewhere else other than the office). The booking was not that hard over the phone but make sure you speak slowly and clearly when you give her any info invovling numbers :D The check-in time is 3pm and check out time is 10am but you can call ahead to check in or check out at an earlier or later time. Upon arrival, Eddie and her daughter greeted us warmly. We were told since the room we originally booked had some plumbing issues we got upgraded to a better room. Yay! The new room is bigger and has a fire place. Eddie took us on a mini tour to see the other lodges on the property as well since each one has a different theme and they are actually quite funky. The lodge we stayed at was small but had adequate space. The kitchen has everything you need except spices and seasonings. There are lodges that can accommodate pets so just ask. We hiked a bit (since the lodge is pretty close to Rocky Mountain National Park. We also went to Hot Sulfur Springs at night (check out my review here http://www.yelp.com/biz/hot-sulphur-springs-resort-and-spa-hot-sulphur-springs#hrid:olYd01SdW95whyRPgZKegg) I like the fact that the lodge is close to those two things. You can probably also ski and ride horses around the area too. Just a note, before you check out, you need to take out the trash and clean the room otherwise they will fine you $25.

The dishes are not locked up and are very accessible to little children, door didn't lock and kept blowing open throughout the night. Kids easily could run out or dogs! I had black hair in my sheets. The water pressure is a trickle making showering unenjoyable and dishes very hard to clean! YOU ARE EXPECTED TO CLEAN YOUR DISHES AND ROOM before checkout, we got passive aggressive comments from SUE because I'm the WIFE and left six dishes in the sink! IT WAS MY JOB to clean them! I didn't know, there were no signs! NOW THE BIGGEST CON of all! Passive aggressive property manager! DO NOT STAY here!!! SPEND YOUR MONEY on a airbnb that deserves it! They didn't even ask us to leave but threatened to call the COPs if we didn't leave in 5 minutes in front of my toddler and infant child! I am still in SHOCK! I would like to laugh and JOKE I HAVE BEEN KICKED OUT OF NICER PLACES THEN THIS! Let me start by saying we are not criminals, we don't drink excessively and are a pretty nice clean family. After trying to coordinate a room change ALL DAY with SUE, she finally gave us 20min to switch rooms so I left the six dishes and didn't vacuum. I was honestly concerned about her turn around time! The kiddos had spilled some animal crackers on the floor but nothing a quick vacuum wouldn't fix! NOW she DID NOT TURN OVER a Room Properly! It takes more then twenty minutes to properly clean a kitchen, bedroom and bath with linens, I was a maid for years! INDUSTRY STANDARDS would say all linens need to be striped and changed. Surfaces disinfected esp. with COVID! Vacuum and mop! You would have thought we left shit In the toilet, vomit on the floor and a blown up burrito in the microwave! (ALL of WHICH I HAVE GRACIOUSLY CLEANED IN MY DAY!). So I DO THINK THE DISHES ARE NOT PROPERLY WASHED, THE BLANKETS DO NOT GET WASHED BETWEEN GUESTS AND NO MOPPING. I hope SUE gets out of the hospitality business! She thought my two year olds graham cracker floor mess was PERSONAL and it wasn't! We did leave a NORMAL mess, WE WERE ON VACATION! STAY ELSEWHERE! They kicked out our little sweet family, to fend for ourselves with 1-70 closed and the pass closed. REALLY!

Rooms were clean and well maintained, and had all of the basics you would need. Everything related to a ski day was nice here - had storage for skis and boots so that you didn't have to bring them to your room. In the morning they have a nice spread for breakfast including fruit and cereal, and also have some hot items including eggs, toast, sausage, and bacon. Definitely enough to get you fueled and ready for the day. Then there is a van they run that takes you right to the gondola leaving at 8:30, 9, 9:30. Taking the first van gets you there right for the start of day. And you don't have to worry about parking, walking, and paying at the resort. Rides back were at 3:15 and 4:15 which gave plenty of time at the mountain. I didn't get a chance to try the hot tub but it looked nice. There were some cozy spots in the lounge with fireplaces to sit and relax. And a ping pong table that a few kids were using to stay entertained. Parking here was convenient, and the location is good; very close to everything in Winter Park. Overall I was very impressed with this stay. I will definitely look here first when looking for a place to stay in Winter Park moving forward. I thought it was a fair value, and the amenities made for easy ski days where all I had to do was get dressed and show up to the van on time, and not worry about anything else.

I had placed the reservation and realized the town was too far to get to. This is not why I am giving this establishment 3/5 stars. The reason for the 3/5 stars is the customer service provided by the front desk staff. The guy was little to no help as he "just went to bed after we booked this spot" and that there is nothing he can do to help. I'm a firm believer if a company utilizes a 3rd party company they would have a better solution.

I chose the motel because it was close to Hot Sulfur Hot Springs. Staff seemed annoyed that I was checking in and during pretty much every interaction after that. Pizza and sandwiches available made at motel but super expensive for what you get but really no other options for food unless you go to Granby. I picked up a newspaper laying in the ground in front of the office door and front desk clerk scowled at me and threw it in the back office after I set it in counter. I get that it was a holiday and they were busy but I experienced really poor customer service. Some positives: the bed was comfortable and room was warm. No coffee makers in rooms so I walked to office in the morning in my PJ's and was given two cups of coffee in styrofoam cups with no lids. Got back to room and tripped and spilled coffee on bed accidentally. I told management right away as I was checking out. They texted me a few hours after I checked out and said they were going to charge me an additional $50 for the blanket because they couldn't get the stain out. I find that ironic as the clean towels in the bathroom hanging up when I got there had stains all over them. I get that they are a small/town business trying to make a buck but hospitality, kindness and courtesy go a long way. I want to help support small businesses during challenging covid times but hospitality is important. I'd recommend driving the extra 15-20 minutes from Granby or Grand Lake and staying at a hotel with much better amenities, rooms and service if you're planning on going to hot springs. For this stay, the convenience of how close Canyon Motel was to hot springs was not worth it.

Ultimately I would have much preferred to have overnighted in the town of Grand Lake, Colorado...a lot closer to Rocky Mountain, NP. Unfortunately rooms were ultra expensive in that quaint little town, so I "bit the bullet" and drove 35 miles away to stay here in Winter Park. I spent $100 plus tax for a Friday night. I was pleasantly surprised how big the room was. Besides 2 queen sized beds, accommodations included a lounge chair, plenty of closet space and an extended area for the bathroom. The spaciousness of the room was absolutely the best part of the motel! I checked in relatively late evening (8pm) and there were no issues. Parking was free and right in the back of the building. Valley Hi is located in the center of Winter Park with plenty of options for food all over town. There is free continental breakfast and coffee offered in the morning with your stay but the following day I had a long drive and grabbed food on the road. Although I was ideally looking for accommodations within the confines of the western part of Rocky Mountain National Park, Valley Hi Motel was more than a suffice place to put my head down and rest for the evening. If you're exploring in the Winter Park/Fraser area, I'd give the green light to come here.
