Bottom line: both our children have been at the Young School all the way until kindergarten, and we…read moreare grateful for their time there. This is a tricky review to write, because one needs to grade on a curve when evaluating childcare in our screwed up educational system. There have been periods of time where the Young School was a frustrating mess, mostly due to issues with staff retention. But... I've done the math and even though it feels like we're bleeding money with their tuition, I'm shocked that they're able to retain anyone for any length of time at all. Their margins must be razor thin. Childcare is just a necessarily expensive service, given the complete lack of subsidies for it. This must make retention an intractable, permanent issue. As we approach the end of our pre-kindergarten run, the most important things stand out: our kids have loved their teachers. They've learned a ton there. They formed potentially lifelong friendships with the other wonderful kiddos. My wife and I have formed friendships with the other parents. We have had lots of quibbles with the school over the years, but in the end, we're grateful for them.

And as she has transitioned to other classrooms as she grows, it has been an easy process. From meetings with the parents, to introduction of new classroom, activities, change of routines (crib to cot or away from bottle to cup, for example) to the kids; the school has made it seamless. I appreciate that even the heads of the school know my child and us, the parents, by name. I appreciate the transparency, that even with a tiny bump or fall we are notified. And I cannot say enough about the updates through the day! It makes it even better knowing all our girl is doing - when and what she ate, diaper changes, sleeping times and, best of all, pictures. Our daughter loves her teachers and we love to know she is in such a nurturing environment.

My child attended this daycare for one day only, and during that single day, I observed multiple…read moreserious issues that raise significant concerns regarding infant care and safety. Upon picking up my daughter, I was informed that her diaper had been changed; however, despite a bowel movement being reported earlier in the morning, stool remained in her genital area until the afternoon when I brought her home, and it had dried on her skin. She had visible redness and irritation on several areas of her body, and throughout the night she cried persistently and showed clear signs of pain when touched. The following day, I reviewed the security camera footage together with the daycare director. The footage showed that the caregiver repeatedly interrupted my child's feeding to attend to other infants. During this time, my daughter was frequently lifted with one hand while the caregiver repeatedly bent down toward other children on the floor. These actions appeared to place physical strain on my child and directly correlated with the pain and redness observed afterward. In addition, despite having written medical instructions stating that my child should not be placed in a crib for longer than 15 minutes, the footage confirmed that she was left in the crib for nearly two hours, in direct violation of her doctor's orders. Furthermore, without my consent, a toy was given to my child, which resulted in an allergic reaction and red rashes around her mouth. After reviewing the footage, I respectfully requested that the director address these concerns with the caregiver. Rather than initiating corrective action, I was informed that I should no longer bring my child to the daycare. Additionally, my child's belongings were not fully returned, as several items including clothing, diapers, and wipes were missing, and no satisfactory explanation was provided. Despite clear noncompliance with medical instructions and harm caused to my child, no apology or assurance of corrective measures was offered. Instead, I was met with unprofessional and discourteous conduct. Based on this experience, I would strongly caution parents of infants or non-verbal children to carefully consider these concerns before enrolling their child at this facility.
