Very popular among Lyric theatre-goers looking for a quick bite before the show. (guilty as charged ;)) Otherwise the pizza themselves don't quite justify the price in the presence of classics like Via Napoli or Verace pizzeria. But nor should we expect it to! It is after all a semi outdoor pizzeria outside the Star. While the crust was good, the flavour was quite bland, maybe from the lack of toppings or proper seasoning. One thing we noted is that giving out each pizza in a takeaway box even when dining in seems a bit wasteful in our already wasteful society.

And that was the problem today at Pizzaperta, where I bit ever-so-hopefully into their Fior Di Latte and basil enriched pizza, otherwise title 'The Margherita'. It was probably a few minutes overcooked, leaving the basil blackened and the crust chewy and flavourless. It left me wanting to ask HAL what went wrong! Overall good coffee and friendly staff. My in laws said they ate there the night before too and it was good but I'll have to go back and test it out for myself.

Great value for money is the Kondosouvli (Spit Roast) Platter for two $62.90 You have a choice of lamb, pork or chicken( or all three if you desire), served with salad, 2 dips, pita bread and chips. This platter is so huge that it can easily serve three people comfortably. I love a Mousaka and this one is freshly baked in the oven! Delicious with a good serve of Greek Salad. We finished our meal with the Greek desserts Bougatsa and Loukoumades. The atmosphere is very Greek - layback, happy and casual. No need to rush away here. Do up your pin curls, strap on your Argentine tango shoes and head on over to Gardels Bar. Located…read moreupstairs of the popular Porteño restaurant in Surry Hills, Gardels has all of the cool without so much of the hype. I came in off the street on a rainy Wednesday and was escorted up the stairs. I was meeting just one friend up there, so the seating options were limited (they don't seat small parties on the couches, in case you were wondering). With an assortment of leather and wood in different styles and heights, the dimly lit lounge gave off that speakeasy feel with a little sudamericano twist. We sat up at the bar and watched the bearded and suspender-clad bartenders hard at work. It's no wonder that the dark bar is cluttered with bottles, syrups, herbs and jars of ambiguous pickled items. Their cocktail menu reads like a book, with pages of elaborate and creative creations available by the cup. I was ever-so-tempted by the banana old fashioned (with banana infused Jack Daniels and sweet syrup), but instead chose to stick with wine. I tried three different glasses and far and away the best one was the Alma Negra Pinot Nior. If I could bathe in a bathtub of that wine, I surly would. We ordered a couple shared plates and both were well done. The cold meats selection was nothing mind blowing, but was definitely gourmet. With three kinds of thinly cut meats and small toasty bread, it was the perfect compliment to my wine. Secondly, we got the kingfish tartar. The five little bit-sized pieces seemed to have a hint of avocado, mint and lemon in the mix. It was definitely a standout. Next time I would order a couple more things to nibble on, but with the amount of drinks we got, my credit card was glad I didn't. Gardels isn't cheap, but definitely worth the experience.

I shouldn't Yelp about this but I just can't help myself - I just adore this cosy Argentinian alcohol alcove. It's dark, warm and sultry and that increases exponentially when the booze and tiny plates of meat in ball form arrive. It happened by mistake - I, like everyone else in Sydney, was dying to try Porteño, but I couldn't bare wait the two hours for a table. When I learned that a tapas menu was available upstairs, I practically pushed over the host in eager anticipation and scampered up the stairs like any classy lady does when it's after 6pm and she's not yet had a drink. And I was well rewarded - not only with chilli dogs and chicken wings (Yes. Those two things are both on the menu. I know, right?) but with some seriously divinely made cocktails by attractive men adorned in suspenders. I guess it helps that these guys truly care about what they're pouring and were quick to pour out knowledge about each and every beer, wine and spirit they served (many of which they had a hand in making in one way or another). Let's be honest, who doesn't love the idea of a sneaky drink in the attic before dinner? I say don't miss it. Or do. Your seat won't go to waste, that's for sure.

Chicken noodle soup was spot on. I think I ate too much two hours before, so my stomach wasn't feeling well at all when I over ordered here! I got excited on their 5 dollar grubs and Tom Yum soup. It's like a hole in the wall kind of place. Service was great and I like the down to earth vibes here. My eyes are bigger than my stomach, as usual. Got my yummy Thai craving on!

You're gonna need it, this is authentic Thai, they don't scrimp on the spice. This used to be a very regular lunchtime haunt for me because it wasn't very busy and @ $7.90 for my favourite dish (which is a generous serve), it was almost impossible to avoid at least once a week. However it seems that word has gotten around because it can be very busy at lunch times. I usually opt for pork pad krapao cos it's a great serve but have tried other dishes too. The pork two ways (belly and bbq) is a bigger dish but is also outside their $8 lunch sweetspot! The only real gripe I have with the place is that the seating outside attracts smokers. Most people hate smokers whilst they are eating, and it's probably illegal but you know what inconsiderate ign'ant peeps are like, they just don't care.

But as the name suggests, fish is the business! And what a range of fish - just as easily as getting into the delicious fish 'n' chips for a quick Friday night meal, one might also buy filets of Atlantic Salmon for a Sunday lunch, or Sydney Rock Oysters to enjoy with a celebratory glass of champagne; it's all there. And it's fresh! So fresh, so tasty... As with all seafood suppliers, the supply and demand of the industry and seasons dictates the price and availability of certain fish, but Wholly Mackeral is certainly not unreasonably priced. It's also got character - the owner is a familiar figure around Glenrose Shopping Centre, normally spotted with a big grin on his face. His staff are also usually familiar to those in the area, given the penchant of local boys and girls aged 14 - 18 to get a job at the fish shop.
