There are a number of issues with this home daycare. If you are considering bringing your child here; read through this thoroughly.
PROBLEM 1: She denied my son access to her facilities disregarding his doctors note. After several attempts to convince her that is was okay for him to come in; providing her research etc. she was unwilling to budge. She even went as far as claiming she had called DSS and they stated that she must follow policy and not allow him access. Upon further research I found nowhere in DSS policy where it stated that my son could not attend. I brought that to her attention and she claimed that it was 'her business and she made the decisions' She provided me with no factual information as to why she was refusing care to my son other than 'because I say so.' That just wasn't good enough for me considering I was missing work and had already paid her. So I questioned her and she became furious with me stating that she was upset that I questioned her judgement (she has NO medical background) and she also DEMANDED that I did not call DSS and ask them any more questions. After continues efforts to reconcile with her she was incapable of calming herself down and see the real picture; she removed my 2 year old son from her childcare facility. She is great with children; I can't say the same for her communication skills, with adults, judgement, nor her business ethics.
PROBLEM 2: I was picking my son up from childcare one afternoon and she had explained that she found a snake in the play yard. She continued that while the children were taking a nap, and her assistant had ran up to Walmart, she took it upon herself to grab her husband's gun and shoot at the snake. Not only did she miss the stinker several times but she said she wasn't very experienced with a gun and that is why she couldn't kill it. So you left my child inside at nap time w/o any supervision; you were shooting a firearm around the facility; and you don't even know how to use a gun?? There is so much wrong with this.
PROBLEM 3: Another time after I was picking my son up she and I were talking about how well he was doing and how much he was learning. All the children were sitting around the table for snack and she continued saying this, "You see this one here (and pointed at a little girl at the table), she can't even pull her own pants up when she goes to the bathroom; her mother does everything for her- that is why she is so behind." This is really when I started to loose my trust in her; was she talking about me around my child? Was she embarrassing him in front of his friends blatantly pointing out his shortcomings. This was only one incident; her talking badly of parents and children was a consistent issue.
This isn't everything but these are the key factors that lead me to believe that as a consumer I have the right and responsibility to inform other parents considering enrolling their child here. There are not many child cares around this area; and she is affordable- but you get what you pay for. read more
