A good solid three stars. The food is better than the offerings in our home city at similar prices but still nothing wows.
We got a salted chilli battered chicken with fried rice and a vegetable curry with noodle and beansprouts.
The vegetable curry was a good portion. It had lots of fresh broccoli, onions, sliced mushrooms, green peppers, carrots and from tins green peas, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots.
This food is cheap. It is made cheap. The soy sauce in the noodles and the fried rice is the salty cheap chemical stuff with carmel added to brown the food sold at 60 pence a litre. Kikkoman isn't here as it's five times the price.
The fried rice is browned by the sugar carmel in the chemical soy. It has no discernible egg in it - again I remember when pieces of beaten fried egg was plentiful in fried rice.
I can't recall when I last bought a Chinese takeaway in our city. Certainly it's years not months and I can't imagine that this will change.
The lady behind the counter was chatty and pleasant and a cold wind blew in the door making it unpleasant. There is a but.
Like so many Chinese takeaways it's cash only and you only find out once you go inside and read the notice on the counter.
Cash only is a bloody nuisance. I'm set up to pay by phone with the wonderful Revolut; mind you as I think about it while I write I'm a bit of a hypocrite as going cashless would be madness and I'd be apoplectic.
Imagine the power over us we would hand big banks, big business and worst of all untrustworthy politicians if we did.
Anyway I'd return here but not in a hurry nor with great enthusiasm. read more
