Size down. especially in adult brands, and suddenly you're oohing and aahing and nodding and ultimately, walking up to the register and paying. As for service. South Street shops are not known for great customer experiences. Unica is different. On my recent visit there, the women I spoke with were great. No pressure, decent listening skills, reasonable awareness of inventory, etc. This is big news, especially for you Gay Uncle types for whom walking into a kids store is fraught with nail-chewing questions about What's the right size, Is this appropriate, How do you clean it, What if they hate it, and so on. Next time you're on South Street, have a look.

Bizarre experience. Do not recommend…read more I am visiting from DC and love a good children's boutique. I saw that this alleged boutique was close to our hotel, so my 4 year old daughter and I walked over to have a look. From the moment we walked in, a young woman seemed to be looking over us at every turn. It didn't dawn on me for a while that she was someone who works there, actually following me, presumably for loss prevention reasons, for the precise reason that this HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME EVER BEFORE IN MY LIFE! Usually sales associates flock to me because, based on the way I present myself, they know they are about to make a sizable commission. This might have made more sense if I was dressed casually or something, but I guess they see a lot of thieves wearing Hermes and diamonds? A word of advice to the staff: you sell onesies; get over yourself. Oh, and your selection is very pedestrian; get a new buyer because your sales floor looks like literal garbage.

Visualize the sequins, fur, feathers and thousands of miles of ribbon that make up the inventory of this super organized and absolutely old-school kiddie boutique. Elaborate christening dresses, formal holiday attire and flouncy tutus in kaleidoscope colors are all swathed in plastic to keep them neat and clean. Prices are high, but it's all perfectly constructed special occasion stuff. The two ladies who run the place were just as nice as can be when I went in to pick out something gorgeous for my four-year old cousin's birthday. A super-soft black and white herringbone jumper dress with colorful flower embroidery and matching, satin-lined beret jumped right out. It's the kind of thing that's both practical (warm with a turtleneck underneath, she can wear it to school, etc.) and also nearly as beautiful as the kid wearing it. Money well spent on something special at a local business.

As a tailor, the alterations I needed to my clothing were, again, excellent. But, hard economic times came to Philly and, he went out of business. He disappeared. Vaporized completely. Although he was paid in full for a leather suit and I paid him in full for, I never heard from him. And I never received a refund. As a matter of fact, he said that he couldn't find another tailor to sub contract my order to make another leather suit for me. He should have refunded me in full though. Their employees are very friendly and the location on South Street always looks nice. Greene Street has changed their consignment model a couple times over the years. Recently, they've reverted to their former model which is when they email a contract within a couple weeks of the drop-off. The contract lists each item they plan to re-sell and the price. After the consignment window (45 days, reduced from the previous 60), you receive a payment for any items that were sold, minus a $4.99 handling fee. The payment is a percentage of the sale price, which fluctuates depending on the value of the item. Anything they don't want to put on the floor and anything that doesn't sell in that 45 day window can be donated, unless you want to pay a fee to pick up the unsold items. It sounds complicated but really, it's a great service. I don't like holding onto things I don't need or no longer wear so this gives me an opportunity to clean out my closet a couple times a year while making a few bucks in the process (for me, typically anywhere from $50 to occasionally $100+ for each haul). I also love that they simply donate items that they decide not to sell. Wins all around!
