Dapur Dahlia - Waiting for them to set up the shop:)))

Good Malaysian hawker food We visited Dapur Dahlia at their…read morenow not so new premises opposite the Buranda shopping centre for lunch on Sunday - which are a huge step up from their old premises at Mount Gravatt. Unfortunately no roti was available so we tried the dry curry mee with chicken, seafood laksa lemak, fried chicken and a taro pudding for dessert. The dry curry mee was very good but we weren't that impressed with the laksa - it had a more buttery rather than coconut milk flavour and they used short fat rice noodles ("mouse tail" noodles) which are not our favourite. The food here is Malay style rather than Chinese Malaysian style so I don't think that this is the place to eat noodles. We're going to come back and try the nasi lemak (which looked amazing) and some roti! They have a good coffee machine and use Wolff Coffee which was excellent.

You won't always have to, but it's a really small shop often with only two people there. The lace-like roti is nice and I haven't seen it anywhere else in Brisbane before. They have two types of chicken wings that are both good (one spicy version and one not so much). We always get takeaway because the shop has only two tables out the front but the dishes travel well. I would definitely rate the food as some of the best Malaysian/Indonesian food in Brisbane.

I never liked their cramped Toowong little shop and whenever I went there, it was sweaty and I…read morewasn't in the mood. What a difference a location makes. Laksa Hut moved to Indooroopilly 6 months ago, with a bigger, roomier and open restaurant. The menu's are clean, the tables are clean, it really does make a difference. Location wise, it's in an awkward place because it's along a main road, with hardly any car parks. But we find parks anyway, and the walk will always do you good after you've eaten here. My favourite is the dry wonton noodle with bbq pork. My husband had the masuman curry with rice (looks oddly very like the beef rendang with rice) and it was very scrumptious. Very scrum-diddly-umptious indeed as we concluded our meal. They have a bubble tea menu too, which is always something I like, and the food comes out quickly and hot (always like this in a restaurant). We've only been at lunchtimes, and can always usually get a table, haven't tried dinner times yet. It's a good place and if you're at all into Malaysian food, a must-go. Their signature laksa is very noteworthy but a word to the wise, it's spicy!

I'm a huge Laksa Hut fan, from their humble beginnings in Clements Arcade in Toowong (which I…read moreabsolutely loved, it reminded me of street food back home, and even then it was still nicer!) to their more classy new home in Indooroopilly. I still feel under dressed when I come here now, but luckily the staff don't mind. The menu doesn't change from lunch to dinner, and at its new location Laksa Hut hasn't been getting quite as crowded as it used to in Toowong. That's not to say the food isn't good, it's freaking awesome, it may just be a locational issue. It's awkward to find a parking space on the street, but there is a small car park behind the restaurant (look for the driveway into the building). I think I've exhausted their menu over the years, but I'm sticking with my all time favourite: beef brisket egg noodle soup. Lots of brisket, a generous helping of vegetables, and I don't even get a menu anymore they just bring it out, bless. And the service is always fast, the food is always served hot, and they always ask how my Mum is doing. Loves it! Of course try the famous chicken Laksa, my friends practically live off it in winter. Just remember to ask for mild if you're not a huge chilli person, this is Malay style spicy. And if I'm ever feeling sick I make my housemate run here to pick me up an order of congee (rice soup) with pork and century egg. I'm going to recommend this for those who are not faint of heart but I swear it makes a cold go away like no over the counter medicine could ever do. The bubble (pearl) teas are great compliments to the meal as well, I usually ask for a plain green tea with pearls (to avoid calorie overload), but the assortment of mixes available are endless; in winter I once asked for hot soy milk with pearls completely ignoring the fact that the pearls would melt. Fail on my behalf. I love the food, I love the staff, and I'm getting used to the fancier new digs. Just go here for your noodle fix already!

If you're like me, from a chinese…read moremalaysian background, you will soon learn to recognise that this isn't just a food court chinese takeaway place, it is run by chinese malaysians and they mean business. They keep their wok out back hot and you can taste it in all the dishes they prepare using the wok, from the really yummy and authentically tasting Chow Kuey Teow, to the Combination Laksa, Hokkien Mee, Gon Loh Mee and the Nasi Lemak... they give you chopped chilli as well. My family have been going here for ages, yes even though it's in a food court, it may as well be a restaurant seeing how busy it gets during peak hours, even though there's a chinese stirfry place right next door literally to this place. These people aren't silly... they know where to get the good stuff. These people namely chinese students that are studying at The University of Queensland. I recommend all the above, the actual buffet food is okay too, the curry puffs have always been a favourite of mine. With the meals starting at about $9.90 for a huge plate, you will definetely be back for more.

Instead cast your eyes upward to the menu board for the best Two Wongs have to offer. They do a deliciously authentic 'Nasi Lemak' -- a Malaysian dish which literally mean 'fatty rice'. It's rice cooked in water and coconut milk, served with a mild chicken curry as well as dried anchovies, roasted peanuts, a lively chilli relish and pickled carrots. They've also got a quite good 'Hainanese Chicken Rice' which comes with an undrinkably hot broth, so you might want to ask for an ice cube to cool it down. As for the service, they may never smile at you or utter much other than "What you want?" but if you keep going there long enough, they might start giving you chopsticks instead of a fork. It's then you know that they've welcomed you into their hearts.

I was seated at a spacious table and was given a comfortable amount of time to look at the menu. The lightly sweet sauces and hearty flavor are were exactly what I was looking for. The service here is fast and thankfully after waiting around 15 mins on a Friday night we were seated and ready to eat! The ambiance here is nice for a girls night or to bring the family. For food we ordered: * Salt Egg Yolk Chicken - this is delicious and crispy. The chicken is fried but quite flavorful and juicy * Roti Canai - the roti here is made really fresh and you can see the guy making it in the corner which is nice. This also came with a sauce to dip the bread into * Singaporean chili crab - this was yummy and came with two crabs - they are definitely small so the main meat you will get is in the head portion rather than the claws, but this was pretty good Overall, if you are looking for a unique flavorful experience, this is a good spot for you! The portions are great and the prices are solid - so definitely worth a visit!

This time we went to the Fortitude Valley outlet because it was more accessible to our friends on the Northside and the food was a hit with everyone. A large tour group arrived not long after us but even though the staff were run off their feet, our meals came out very quickly. They have a wide range of dishes but I've always managed to order the same few. The Hainan chicken rice is the dish is recommend to everyone going there for the first time. The chicken and spices are great and it comes with a bowl of broth on the side too. Not to mention its furiously cheap. Other favourites on the menu are the Penang Lobak - a rizty Malaysian sausage roll style dish wrapped in bean curd. The roti curry is amazing - definitely go for the beef, and I'd recommend copping a serve of greens on the side. It's BYO and there's a bottle shop across the road - I'd recommend a good Rosé to go with the chicken rice, but I also know next to nothing about wine so maybe don't listen to me on that front.
