(unfortunate, but true...)
FAIL # 1, The Seating
I came here with some friends and given it was a busy night, we got stuck with the table in the far corner beneath the shrubbery. I could see three to four other tables free that could have been offered to us, but wasn't. Still, I brushed it off as I was looking forward to the rest of the evening. I was looking forward to their famous Laksa, I've heard so much about. I mean, you would assume it's pretty darn good given they call themselves Laksa Hut.
FAIL # 2, The Starter
I ordered the Laksa with seafood. While waiting, I nibbled on some dim sim which we ordered for starters and I have to mention here, it really isn't worth it so don't order it. It was so bland and tiny (I suspect microwave heated?). It slips and slides on a little plate with no garnish and looks somewhat pathetic. So far, not impressed.
FAIL # 3, The Laksa
The Laksa came out and I planning on devouring it. It had to be good, it had to be! Wow, I was so wrong. I looked forward to it all day and it failed to even put a weak smile on my face. It was too watery, too milky and certainly not enough kick to the spice. I couldn't believe how bland it was in comparison to so many other places I've tried. I really hope it was just my stroke of bad luck, but it certainly doesn't inspire one to return. I would have rather the Laska at Phuc Deli in the foodcourt of Indro to this watered down concoction. Hardly any seafood in it also.
FAIL # 4, The Service
In addition to this underwhelming Laksa experience, my friend asked for a container to take some of her uneaten beef rendang home. (*note, beef rendang is good here). Leftovers for lunch, who doesn't do that? As she was putting her beef rendang into the container she also put a few spoonfuls of rice from our rice bucket which is paid for. Could you believe, she was told off for doing so??
"You can't take rice home!" The waitress exclaimed to my friend. Embarrassed by the situation we didn't know how to respond.
"No other restaurant allows it!", the waitress continued.
"Uh, okay... Sorry!", my friend responded.
"OK, only this time, not again." Said the waitress grumpily as she stared at my friends container mixed with rendang and rice.
It made me wonder, are they just re-using the rice from previous customers? if so... YUCK!!! read more
