* Small venue with wooden benched tables for groups and other seating just outside a Queenslander next door. I was really curious about that and wondered if it was a residential house or actually part of the restaurant.
* Good location at Merthyr Road near the cute Village with a bus stop right in front of it and also across the street (199).
* We were promptly seated after arrival at around 10:15 am. The place was about 3/4 filled on that Saturday morning. I immediately eyed lemon water, which I wholeheartedly gulped down as it was so refreshing.
* The young waiter gave us menus, but not at the table, then asked us to take a seat and order at the counter when ready.
* The menu items looked standard enough but I found the prices quite expensive at first look.
* I ordered the "sweet potato pumpkin bruschetta" $17.50 - sweet potato, pumpkin, dukkah, Persian feta, kale, beetroot hummus, poached eggs on seeded sourdough. It looked very pretty on the plate and I can probably understand the price for it. It was nice but I didn't taste feta through it nor do I actually remember seeing kale. One of the two poached eggs was runny, the other was a tad overdone. Not enough seasoning for me personally.
* A friend ordered the mushrooms dish and it was a pretty unsatisfactory "mini heap" of mushrooms on one thin slice of toast. At a price of $17.50, it kinda blows my mind why it cost this much. Maybe because it has truffle honey? Mushroom foam?
* Two friends ordered the breakfast burger of streaky bacon, fried egg, smoked tomato relish, mature cheddar and avocado on toasted polenta brioche bun. While they said they liked the way the burger felt healthy and clean, I just don't know if it actually is worth the $15 price for that single item.
Is this what it is like to eat 'healthy'? Satisfactory enough with taste but pricier?
I'm left sitting on the fence with this one. Each to their own of course! Some may say the prices make total sense with the ingredients being used. But at the same time, I've had better before that cost half of some of Loco's items. Hmmm... read more
