My youngest is on the spectrum and was nonverbal for a period of time, and haircuts have always been a very difficult and emotional experience for him. From day one, Kim has shown an incredible level of patience, kindness, and genuine care. She never rushed, never forced anything, and always met my child where he was at. That kind of understanding is rare--and it made all the difference for our family. Because of her consistency and compassion, she has built a strong level of trust with my son over time. On his most recent haircut on April 5, 2026, he didn't try to jump off, fight the haircut, or kick--something that used to be a real challenge. We've been going to this location since we moved here in 2020 and we lucked out with getting Sarah! We've been loyal clients ever since. She's so good and patient with my boys and puts them at ease when they're nervous. She's so talented with the scissors and clippers. I don't trust anyone else to cut their hair. We arrived early to let our nervous kids explore before their appointment. We were pleasantly surprised when they asked if we wanted to be seen early since the kids were comfortable & ready. My daughter is *very* picky about her hair, but was absolutely stunned by how pretty it looked after her cut. My son who usually complains with the buzzer didn't complain at all & had a great time. I would definitely recommend taking your little ones to other haircut places in San Diego, there are a lot better ones I've been to with better service and people!! We took my son here for his first hair cut and the hair dresser was serious, barely talked to us and chopped up his hair horribly. She had curly hair and a grey jean apron. She also gave us his hair in a small bag, which we're grateful for but not ANYTHING as wonderful/ special as the other places we've been to. I guess if you just want a quick cut and don't care for quality, come here. If you want more, I highly recommend other places. read more

I have been here once previously and I believe the stylist then was Virgina... she was perfect. Not much is needed for a kids haircut but this kid had a better cut from Great Clips (for keeping hair actually even). Today's haircut was a hack job. I also don't think they should include the gratuity on the total bill, since it is a toy shop and good luck escaping without letting your kiddo pick a reward for their excursion. Giving 20-25% tipping options on a $50 total ($35 haircut), why would guests tip on toys? After today's result, we will not be returning. read more

Sarah was amazing with our 1.5 year old! We previously went to a kids cut shop at Liberty Station and were very disappointed. I thought I'd give this shop a try and we're so glad we did. First off, we were the only ones in here so it was nice and quiet. They have tv monitors in the mirrors which is a nice distraction for the little one. What I loved most about Sarah is she took her time and made sure to finish his haircut. I wanted to update this review to say that I absolutely believe this issue has been addressed. We had been avoiding this store, but when we needed to get the kids a haircut before a funeral and couldn't get an appointment elsewhere, we gave them another try. The experience was totally different. Even though this was a busy weekend day, the whole place was much calmer, everything was running on time, and there was no competition between walk-ins and appointments. It's really frustrating that this place is so disappointing, especially given its location. I first visited in 2024 for my son's first haircut. Despite having an appointment, we still had to wait 30 minutes. The staff were rude and unwelcoming. I came for a bang trim only. It's clearly specified on their website that the cut is supposed to be at eyebrow level. Look at the pictures--they cut it super short, uneven and I cried when I got home. I decided to give them a second chance, being very specific that I didn't want his bangs to be cut too short. The woman who handled the haircut clearly didn't know how to deal with my son crying. She was visibly shaking, and not only did she cut his bangs way too short, but they were also uneven. She even laughed and said, "Oh, I thought it was going to look worse." Please read all the negative reviews, I am not the only one that experienced this. Never coming back. read more

Highly recommend! We have been coming here for years. We drive down from San Marcos. I have used both of their locations Solana Beach and La Jolla both great in their own ways. La Jolla is our personal favorite. All of the Stylists do a great job but Kim is our fave!! Romi is the Owner and she is super sweet and welcoming even when she is swamped with calls she still checked us in and took care of us while we waited for our appt. The toy store is fun for kiddos too and is another part of making a haircut a look forward to activity for the littles. I even heard some little 8 to 9 year girls come in while we were waiting and they remarked "we love this place, it's so cool." (With awe in their eyes) I don't even know if they were getting a haircut. They had me get a giant rainbow slinky down for them to peruse. Anyway, just an all around fun experience for the kiddos. April fools day was 4 days ago, so why are you pulling pranks on my 15 month old?!? Attached was the exact photo I showed as I wanted him to get a middle part. He had more than enough hair to have this done. To the woman who cut his hair ( I never got a name yet I introduced my son and what his name is, so I can only go based on description POC with accent ) needs their license REVOKED. I expressed several times how I wanted him to still maintain his hair length and she reassures me she understood my request. What is this?!? She seemed annoyed and just didn't care at all for working there. Throughout the cut she referred to him as boy in a passive aggressive manner when she's clearly heard me call him by his name aside from introducing him to her. Not friendly, unprofessional, INCOMPETENT, overpriced, & rude. Towards the end of the styling she said for ME to do the middle part AT HOME, essentially just calling it a day and leaving so much hair all over his face. When asked why she cut all his hair off her response was "I had to blend the hair" LMFAOOOO sorry excuse for ruining my baby boy's 2nd ever haircut. The 1st went great and so I just wonder where the miscommunication occurred? I showed a picture & explained what I wanted for him and yet he got this bullsh*t. You had to have gone out of your way to make sure his haircut was terrible unless you're actually this dog sh*t at cutting hair. Find a new profession and never lay a pair of scissors on another poor child's head ever again. Absolutely shameless. read more

My little guy had his first haircut with Claire and we had an awesome experience. First, this place is heaven for little kids. It's also a toy store with many toys already opened to use as distractions while your little one is getting their haircut. They also played kids shows on the mirror which is great for older kids. They had cars for the kids to sit in especially Lightning McQueen but it was broken when we came. Regardless, Claire was so patient and kind to our boy. She knew just what to do to make him comfortable. He looked so handsome after and I know he also had a lot of fun. Definitely worth $27 before tips. Horrible experience for our 15 month old boy's first haircut. I scheduled the appointment online for a child's first haircut which was super easy. We arrived about 5 minutes early. Miss Myeisha never introduced herself by name to myself, wife or son. She never even asked for our son's name, nor did she try to warm up and introduce herself to him. No wonder he was fussy having this total stranger that wasn't nurturing or gentle towards him. My wife asked her to cut a little more off the top and she cut like 2 inches without hesitation which was way more than we wanted. The cut was also very uneven. She seemed to be annoyed to even be working. Disappointing as the first impression with the toys and chairs with cars for seats seemed so kid friendly. read more
