"Little Bread & Butter" is definitely a fitting name for this small cafe, with gulley-seating and an overwhelming selection of 'yummies' on offer including authentic croissant, pretzels, 'smashed avocado', 'mixed mushrooms' or 'The Bakers Breakfast' if you are super famished! Prices range from $9.50 to $21 on the menu or $4 from the counter. They even have a children's menu...for some of us that need that option. Really delightful welcoming spot. We just popped in for an espresso. Quaint setup, awesome looking pastries and lots of little samples to try out while waiting for coffee. The coffee was nicely made, a tad over extracted and a bit thin, but not enough to stop me returning. Counter staff were knowledgable on when and where the beans are roasted, locally it seems. Not so knowledgable on the origins of the beans. That all said I love the place. It could if I lived in Auckland become a local. read more

Little Bread and Butter is a favourite of ours. Its part of the bustling Ponsonby Central complex but you can always get a spot. The food is great - it's more cabinet than menu based - and the sourdough breads to try on the spot or take out are top class! The cafe/bakery is a regular morning spot for me. It's on the way to work and I will often visit for a quick snack-type breakfast and partake of the two sources of free wifi and spend an hour or two catching up on work while increasing my caffeine levels. It's also great for meetings. Try the toast with assorted preserves on the table but the breakfast bap with bacon, egg, cheese, aioli and tomato relish is our favourite. Staff are great and look after their regulars. The coffee is Five Elements and never disappoints. read more

There is nothing, I repeat, nothing like freshly baked bread. Little Bread & Butter is taking the genre bakery back to the way it used to be. They're 100% organic which is a huge step from the yellow-tinged pastries that fill most of our bakeries. They also do coffee, so you can breakfast the way they do in France, with a croissant in one hand and a strong brew in the other. We had the brioche, which was so delicious. Definitely worth breaking my gluten-free diet for, oops. I was also eyeing up their pretzels, which I will definitely be back for. I am a fan of Little Bread and Butter. Mostly because the name is just so cute. But also because they really provide amazing little and big delicacies. My workmate comes here at least once a week for the BLAT which is well known, and they also do cute little sizes for bites and then the big mouth feeders. It is in the centre of Ponsonby in the midst of the hip and happening Ponsonby central. You can dine in or take away, although dining in doesn't look so appealing as the seats are tiny and the tables awkward, so it is probably more for hipster show. I also am really frustrated that the lovely little place doesn't offer that many great vegetarian options. Perhaps I came at the wrong time (early morning though, so maybe not). But still, I was disappointed, as like a selection. read more

Friend almost went to the Grey Lynn flagship store by mistake, so clarify which location you mean- but if you're in Ponsonby this is a great stop by. We got the little chicken and big chicken sandwiches- lovely if you aren't too hungry or you can't do big portions like my lil friend. Gorgeous mocha latte and very cold berry smoothie (so don't order in Winter like I did, oops) and chai drinks and hot chocolates at our table. There is a communal table as well as small tables around if you are lucky enough to nab one. Their cabinet is filled with pastries, savouries, classics like BLAT and crossiant and lovely things like madelines and cool pretzels. Definitely strong traditional European feels with their stone-tile baked sourdoughs, baguettes, pretzel breads etc. Awesome as all their breads (though not their cake and pastries) are made from certified organic ingredients. I will say, they definitely know how to do some fiiiiiine bread here. I particularly enjoy the onion rye loaf (mmm). The coffee, however, is nothing to write home about. My flat white was extra bitter, the dreaded burnt-espresso taste and ... lukewarm (one of my pet peeves: hot drinks served "warm"). I want that sucker hot, dammit! I also tried one of their bakery items - "Raspberry swiss kiss" - it was okay..the chocolate part was good but the inside just tasted like a glorified marshmallow with some raspberry flavour chucked in. The service also wasn't my favourite - efficient but not very friendly. I'll give it another chance when I'm around next ....but thus far, not impressed. read more

Little Bread & Butter is so appropriately named! That little cafe/bakery is tucked in a corner on Ponsonby central, but it's worth finding it. The pastries are really good and I don't think many bakeries sell madeleines here. They do not taste quite the same as French ones but they are truly delicious, and so is everything I have tried there so far. Yes the bread is not cheap but it is the real thing and it's organic. Great place to go for a treat after wandering around the market! read more

Wow this place has come a long way, when I lived in Ellerslie up until a few months ago we used to come to the Paris Berlin bakery once a week, we saw them transform an empty place into a small but cute bakery. Now I see they have moved to Ponsonby are have renamed to Little Bread and Butter and good on them. I love their German and French baking and love it even more because its organic. The chocolate croissants are just delicious as is the tasty bread, I'm sure I have tried every one of them, but my favourite would be the Campagne bread with lovely nuts and seeds. If you are in the Ponsonby area then be sure to come here, I will be making special trips from the North shore. read more

Peaking out from the side of Ponsonby Central is this little bakery/cafe, the perfect place to pop in for an early morning flat white and croissant. Things must be going well for them... I've seen some works going on down beside the Farro Fresh off Richmond Road and I think a Little Bread & Butter might be opening up down here too! Watch this space. read more

I just bought some bread from this joint. Fuck I love bread. What a good thing. This place, Little Bread and Butter, have really nice bread. It's way nicer than bread from a supermarket. When I was in high school, there was this guy named Ben, whose family had a bread maker, and so he always rocked up at lunch time with some really really awesome sandwich, while I was forced to withstand the muck and mire that is sandwich cut, tip top, country split. It was a fucking nightmare. So now I go out of my way to buy good bread. This place is a good place. read more

This cafe is part of the new Ponsonby Central complex, tucked away in a small area at the back. They serve fantastic coffee, and have a great selection of delicious food on offer. The vegetarian roll was packed with goats cheese, walnuts, tomatoes, lettuce and a fantastic relish, which made for a great meatless snack (too often I am always disappointed with vegetarian sandwiches as they lack flavour, but definitely not here at Bread and Butter). Also on offer is a nice range of bread loaves which are all made in house and usually go for around 8.50 a piece (some are a bit more, some are a bit less). Customer service was friendly and relaxed, and although it was quite busy, I still got my coffee relatively quickly. If you work in the area then I would highly recommend this as a lunch break spot - not overly crowded, lots of natural light, breezes from outside and the newspaper available to read. read more
