Store front - The French Bakery on Dominion Rd
    Mary F.

I haven't yet been to France but I imagine it is just like this - with countless shops selling crusty baguettes, croissants and pastries. The cabinet is full of delicious looking treats such as these at The French bakery on Dominion Rd (the Mt Roskill end), making it a tricky decision between savoury and sweet. Visit here in the morning and the bread is warm out of the oven. For the quality of the baking, the prices are crazy (in a good way) - a baguette is just $2.50. The lady working told me not to worry about my figure because this what the French eat and French women are never fat. I think I'm going to take this on board and go back to try a danish or maybe a caramel eclair. Whatever I choose it's sure to be tres bien! Note that from what I can gather this place closes around 2pm on weekends. You don't wanna be disappointed!

There is a large cheese room with glass viewing area in the main dining area which adds to the ambience. There is plenty of seating to enjoy the limited menu - everything we tasted was delicious. The place was almost full when we arrived and totally full by the time we were served. We had pretty decent coffees with palmiers which were super crispy and perfectly sweet. We actually went back for more. The cheese and ham croissant was flakey, warm with gooey Camembert and a generous amount of ham. I had the braised ox tail on custard which is served with a few slices of fresh baguette. The braised ox was gelatinous and salty, the custard smooth and creamy set into the serving bowl, on top were pickled mushrooms adding a much welcome tangy refreshing way to cut through all the other richness. I'm not usually a fan of micro greens, but these were pretty tasty fresh and added texture. DELICIOUS! I only wish the serve was larger. Will definitely return because I saw many tasty looking soups being served and want to try more.

Moved on to kingfish Andre/ appetizer which was served with a coconut/ cream and delicate sauce. The fish was raw but a delicious flavor combination Then the lamb !! Wow ! Served with a delicious, reduced glaze and delicious trimmings. The meat fell off the bow and delivered an amazing flavor The mane was venison medallion steak which Was served rare, but just tender as can be and also excellent. We finished with the caramel and cheese based little tart that you can see in the photo, which was really just amazing! We also had good chocolate dessert which was a little bit of a misnomer because it was mostly chocolate shavings and a little puffy sponge type chocolate thing. No heavy chocolate heavy flavor. Very interesting. The decor is plain andofern with a lovely garden outside Servers were knowledgeable and efficient - refined I would say A truly memorable meal

Both a delicious cafe with great coffees, hot chocolates, tarts and salads as well as a deli serving delectable cheeses, breads, olives and oils, Pyrenees is a delight on all fronts. The atmosphere of the cafe is really relaxed and has a definite community vibe, which is always nice. The deli has lots of regulars and with the large wooden table positioned in the window, it's the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee, have a catch up and watch kids play in the park across the road. Last time I was there my friend and I indulged in chai lattes and macaroons and the combination was brilliant. Pyrenees is the kind of place you can spend hours chatting in, and that's exactly what we did. The staff are so friendly, not once did they make us feel as though we needed to move on or order anything more. Pyrenees is the ultimate catch up spot! Tip: The deli itself is tucked behind the traffic lights by the infamous Rocket Park so can be easily missed - keep your eyes peeled for it!

As someone who doesn't really eat meat, there's nothing more irritating than running in somewhere to grab a bite when you're starving and being faced with sad little plastic cupboards with sad little plastic wedges of what can only loosely be referred to as sandwiches. White bread, processed meat, not much else. Got vegetarian you ask. Yes, stale white bread cheese and onion. Well I like keeping it real, especially when it comes to food, fuck you very much. Deep breath. The Bread Winner Bakery would never stock anything like the above and I would never need to swear at the lovely people who run it. The vege quiches are super yummy without the sickly over-egginess that most lunchbar quiches have. We often grab pies and savouries for a weekend treat but my very best favourite to go with my Nippy's Iced Coffee (the iced coffee again) is a filled Tuna Bun. They will even usually make you one if they have run out, which they do because the Tuna always seems to go first. Another thing that is really cool about this place is that you can buy a ready-made cake and pretend you baked it yourself. Not that I would ever do such a thing.... Chocolate Log or Banana Cake are $10 and you can even get a Cream Cheese Iced Red Velvet for $22. There are all the usual gorgeous gooey slices and treats as well as some I haven't seen anywhere else, and for my money this is the best of the basic lunchbars. So much so I will even make a special trip to come here rather than waste my time trying other places. Love your work.

They did have a nice looking cake and pastry section, however, and the woman who served us was quite friendly. No coffee, though, so if you're looking for a nice flat white with your pie, you'll have to go elsewhere.
