Better yet, do it on a Sunday where they do a special tiki menu! The tiki menu has interesting, well crafted cocktails and are a serious bargain at £7! 214 is a great stop for a pre or post dinner drink, and a great date night place.

The bar is tucked under Antico restaurant on Bermondsey street. Not only do they love gin - they make their own tonic water! What I was keen to do is introduce my non gin drinking colleagues to something they might like. This is where a large gin selection comes in handy, tasting flights of gin help too... We started off with a Tour of London gin flight. You get three different gins from around London and a bottle of tonic to top up after trying them neat (naturally! Luckily my colleagues were up for this!) You are meant to try the gins and then guess which is which from the list. When you've made your choice you open the envelope and see if you were right! These are the ones we had in our London flight: Half Hitch, which is made down the road from me (we tried it last year at the Oliver Conquest gin tasting), Little Bird made in Peckham, and Moonshine Kid Dog's Nose made in Bethnal Green. We got the last two the wrong way round, but the Half Hitch was easy to find with its Bergamot notes and tinge of colour from the tea. Next up was Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition, where we fared better with three out of three correct! This included one of my favourites, Gin Mare, from the Costa Dorada made with Mediterranean herbs and olives, Larios 12 from Malaga orange citrus heavy and the secret blend of Xoriguer Mahon from Menorca, which is aged in oak. For those less interested in gin I found out what they liked and ordered accordingly. Sean got a navy strength gin neat (he's a whisky drinker - I would normally suggest an aged gin for them, but the Bathtub Aged was sold out!). Jerome doesn't like tonic, so for him something spicy, Opihr and ginger ale, which went down well. I also got Sangdeep out of his Hendricks comfort zone to try Monkey 47! They make their own tonic here - naturally darker as they soak the quinine in it to flavour, rather than using the extract. For me it's not going to rival the FeverTree range, but it was something different - I can't quite get over the colour though, it made picking the gin from the ginger ale very difficult! We also grabbed some nibbles as responsible drinkers. The meat platter and bread with oil was lovely - all from Antico restaurant upstairs. 214 Bermondsey is definitely worth a visit with a fair selection of gins and lovely staff to help you choose some to try out - think I'll be back here!

Horrendous service…read more We waited 20 minutes to get our cocktails. We left after that point. I've never been anywhere in the world where you wait 20 minutes to get your drink. So unacceptable. It was a weekend night but so what? Not a good excuse at all. Looked like a legit spot, but nope. Will never go back.

During one of the recent warm (!) days in London, my fianceé and I decided to grab a drink before heading home to make dinner. We usually head further up Bermondsey street before ducking in for a cocktail, but neither of us had the energy to try to flag down bartenders, or spend the evening in a crowd apologising for stepping on toes and awkward elbows. I was pleasantly surprised to see space (hurray!) in Hide Bar that Friday, so we headed in. In 2 minutes we had seats at the bar. 5 minutes later we had delicious cocktails and an order of calamari on the way. Prices were very fair for the neighborhood, and the service was excellent. It's a very cute place for drinks before dinner, and also seemed like it would be good for a group of coworkers (they have what looks like private space in the back). I will definitely be back again. There is no terrace and it's a bit dark, so perhaps not the first choice as the weather gets warmer, but absolutely my new go to when the weather is poor.

We had a party of 13 so I understand there would be somewhat of a wait and that the whole Dining experience might take a while. We dined on a Tuesday night and the place was quite busy! It took at least 30 minutes from sitting down to get our drinks and another 10 on top of that for them to bring out some bottles of water. It seemed like our server was training someone new. They could have been more efficient, but it took a long time for them both to go around the table and enter in our orders. We were at a work after hours function so we all ordered from the 3 courses for 45 quid option. All of the starters sounded good, but I was slightly disappointed in the drunken dumplings as there were only 2, but the presentation was cool with them pouring the broth into the bowl at the table. I wish I had ordered the cheddar and shrimp toasties as they looked quite good! This place has awesome & fun cocktails, hence the Alchemist name. I didn't realize this at first so ordered a Mai Tai which was not nearly as exciting as some of what my colleagues ordered. Second time around I ordered the red zombie which came out smoking with a test tube vial of absinthe to add in! Definitely cool, but also a bit strong. I had the ribeye steak for my main. It was delicious! The cauliflower and potatoes very good too. Had the next level chocolate brownie for dessert. My only thought is it could have used a bigger scoop of ice cream compared to the size of the brownie but it was delicious! So good, in fact, that I had to finish every last crumb. The ambiance was nice. The bathroom was clean, but a little hard to locate. All in all, I would definitely come back if in the area again.

The girl who was serving had to manage the whole pub on her own. You could tell she was flustered and didn't have time for anyone. I don't blame her as it was a busy afternoon. Dirty glasses, we had a cocktail pitcher and both glasses had lipstick on them. The replacements weren't much better and we had to clean them with a napkin. Good points - The food and drinks came out fast! The pub itself has that old school Wetherspoons look which is nice and has plenty of history about the building and surrounding area dotted around the pub which is a nice touch. *Bonus* Can you spot the clip i attached to my girlfriends cardigan, she had that on for hours without noticing.

There is an outside seating area which is usually occupied by groups of younger people who have usually drank one too many cheap pints! The inside isn't too much better but it is insanely cheap to drink and eat here. I have to admit, I'm actually quite a fan of Wetherspoons pub grub as the portions are decent and very good value. The same applies here and I sampled the burger and chips which was very tasty and for around £5, I couldn't have asked for better. The bar staff are also friendly and definitely have their work cut out! I wouldn't really come here for a nice evening drink but it is fine as a stop point or if you are strapped for cash and need a good meal!
