This is a cozy pub with a local community feel to it that just invites you to come in and stay awhile. That is, unless it's a Sunday afternoon, and most of the seats have been booked; in which case you feel like a fish out of water, hoping that one of the busy waitresses notices you and feels bad enough to help you snag a seat. Yes, that was my experience. But I was too hungry and too cold to be deterred from having to find my own little corner. One thing I've never liked about pubs is that you have to figure out what to do first: Find a table or order your food at the bar. If you're alone, that adds an extra challenge, as you either have to leave your stuff unattended at your table, or risk your spot being taken by someone else as you order. Still, cons aside, I still think the pros outweigh them. Namely, the Sunday Roast here is amazing! As is usual, they have at least 3 different kinds, including a vegetarian/ vegan version, which is what I ordered. Don't ask me why, even though I'm a meat-eater, I keep going for the "healthy" stuff. The veggies they used were mostly the green kind, with a few carrots and what I believe to have been sweet potato sprinkled in, as well as a strip of seitan in there for the protein. The gravy was okay, but I have to say, this dish was a bit on the bland side, overall. I am not at all upset, though, because the Yorkshire pudding they topped it off with was one of the best I've ever had. Crispy, flaky, a bit chewy in the center; I could have just eaten that and the gravy and been happy. I also splurged a bit on a boozy affogato with a shot amaretto for dessert, but the whole thing turned out to be on the soupy side, and the flavor wasn't what I was expecting. I definitely think this is a pub worth coming to, but if you're coming on a Sunday, make sure you book in advance to avoid any excess wait times. read more

I've been in this pub a few times and the atmosphere is really cosy and relaxed. It's been around for a while and it's clear to see why, it tends to attract lots of Clapham Common / Clapham locals and gets especially busy on the weekend (as most places do in Clapham). I went for a quiet drink once, though, on a Tuesday night. I liked the really down to earth atmosphere. Dim lighting illuminating the wooden furnishings made this feel like a little piece of calm in the heart of Clapham. I would go back but only on a quiet night. It's like every other "nice" pub in London if you know what I mean. This is more a pub of convenience if you live nearby as opposed to a place you'd go out of your way for. read more

Belle Vue 1 is a pub that from the outside gives the impression of grandeur but that impression is lost once you enter. The pub is not shabby, it is comfortable, but I did expect a bit more when I entered. After I got over my disappointment I found the pub to have a warm vibe. I was there with a friend and we enjoyed a few drinks in a perfectly delightful environment. The Belle Vue 1 is a local pub and it was full of locals, it's always nice to find a good local pub and since this is just across from the tube stop you won't have to go very far. read more

Had curry ramen and French fry style chips with a couple of pints. Food was great, ramen was the right amount of spicy, and the staff was very helpful and attentive. Seating inside is a little awkward however, there were shortages of available tables, and a lot of ledges on the side are used for seating, which is a bit awkward when having food. On my most recent visit I was very very impressed with the Belle Vue. It was busy, with all tables full, but the staff were quick and friendly. We had reserved a table to have some drinks and food on a Sunday evening. It's nice to know there is a pub in Clapham you can rely on to serve food late into the evening, and not just a roast dinner. The place was decked out in full Christmas regalia - huge tree, delightful fairly lights and tasteful decorations. The hanging smell of mulled wine and hot pimms certainly added to the festive spirit. A very banterous game of scrabble (they have plenty of board games) next to the fire with very decent food and great company made for a fantastic festive night. Will return more regularly if they can keep this up. They had just started a movie showing at the back when we left. Nice. read more

Been here a few times. Pub that caters to Claphamites, with all that this urban descriptive word means. The food is OK, having tried a burger and their fish and chips I can say that they are not anything particularly special. Plus their inability to craft a martini left me rather sad, depressed and enforced me to leave the premises to find a spot that can cater to my -apparently for belle vue - exclusive taste. read more

This place on the corner always looks good with its tiffany lamps in the windows but I find the inside a let-down. I think it's the people it attracts. Situated just across from the tube station, it's a lot of non-locals first point of call (aside from O'Neills) and as such it lacks character. I've only entered once and I wouldn't go back again. There are plenty of pubs in this area to make a visit to this one unnecessary. read more

The Bellevue, located at No 1 Clapham High Street is a cosy, friendly and warm 'no-thrills' kind of pub - to visit when you want to just have a drink, meet like-minded people or to have a chat with friends. The staff are exceptionally friendly who are highly unlikely to snub you or overlook you, even when this place gets busy on weekends. On weekends, the Bellevue is ideal for meeting your friends before heading off to the local clubs or central london, since it is located right next to Clapham Common tube station - easy to find! On Fridays they have a pretty cool live band who are able to rock the roof off the place and it tends to get comfortably packed with a fun-loving and approachable crowd who are there to have some fun. During the week, the Bellevue manages to attract a 'post-work' crowd who pop in for a drink or two after having battled the depths of the tube on their way home from work. They host a quiz night on Monday nights, which is a lot of fun. The Bellevue serves food which is competitively priced and is of good quality and portion sizes. As of writing, they have a new chef and have launched a new menu, including Sunday roasts which taste great with the selection of free Sunday papers. Worth a try! Drinks on offer are a selection of usual brand lagers, good selection of quality wines as well as whiskeys and to top it off a good selection of real ales, for which the Bellevue has been awarded CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ales) recognition. To summarize, the Bellevue is a nice friendly pub, with matching clientele who are there to enjoy their drink and have a chat with friends. read more

I had a mate who lived in Clapham for a while so this became her local and we used to go to the pub quiz every Monday. The drinks prices are standard for London, and the decor is great with a cosy atmosphere, especially in the winter evenings. I've not tried too much of the menu, but I cannot rave about the Quesadillas enough! For £5 you get 6 and a pot of guacamole, which doesn't sound like much. But, they are so fresh with tomato, onion, and a LOT of cheese, they're very filling and absolutely gorgeous. I like this place a lot, and was pleased to be a regular for a bit. However, I would give it a fourth star, but I haven't for one reason - on Quiz Nights, if you are not drinking, they do not like you being there. We went in a couple of times where we waited until the second round to buy drinks as we were late for the start, and half-way through round one we were told that we couldn't play unless we drank something. Even though you do pay to enter the quiz. Very rude and presumptuous! read more

Pretty gastropub with a lovely interior and a food menu that was enough to entice us from g&t's at the high-stool bar seating to staying for dinner at a table at the back. I enjoyed my fish & chips which was such a generous portion that my guy had to finish it off for me (standard). I liked that the batter was light rather than think, and the minted mushy peas on the side were a really tasty addition. The flat iron steak next to me looked well-cooked too. There were just a few niggles that took the shine off this place for me - one was an unfortunately huge table leg right where my place setting was, which was a bit silly on a table for three. Also the waitress was a sweetie but didn't have much of a clue about what wine they had, contradicted herself a lot, and seemed generally swamped - taking ages to serve the queue at the bar before coming to take our order at the table. A bit annoying when you're paying proper restaurant prices. I might come back if I was in the area but I wouldn't make a special visit. read more

This Pub is often overlooked by many in the area meaning that it is great to go to during the week and have a quiet catch up with a friend. It is very traditional looking, especially considering some of the younger, trendier looking bars in the area, but that in itself is no bad thing and helps it stand out. It is quite tiny though so unless you get a table you're not inclined to hang around. The food's always looked good, though we've only ever had snacks and moved on to a nearby restaurant but for the lazy amongst us having that option is a bonus. read more

Great, little bright pub on the corner of Clapham Southside. The Belle Vue mixes the best of traditional English pub and clean cut European bar. A great place to either grab a quick pint from a good selection, including a range of hand pulled ales. Or spend a Sunday afternoon reading the papers with a coffee. read more

Had lunch here today with a friend and was incredibly unimpressed. To start she had humus, pita, and tzatziki, the tzatziki was actually off, it had obviously been standing and had a sharp vinegary taste. The lady who served us was helpful and replaced it with more humus. But then to add to the mild disappointment the mains arrived. I'd ordered fish and chips and had been looking forward to it. Unfortunately the piece of fish was so small it would literally have fitted onto a beermat without going over the edges. I raised this, again, and myself and my guest were kindly given a free drink each. My friend had bangers and mash, again a basic dish and pretty difficult to do badly. However, her mash hadn't been blended properly and was full of lumps. By this point we couldn't be bothered to complain again. So, customer service was pretty good but the food itself left a lot to be desired. Pretty poor show on the whole. The sort of friendly basic pub I'd be happy to have a drink at but forget the food. read more
