We made a reservation for 3pm on December 24th and requested the table by the fireplace. After walking over from Dalston, we enjoyed settling in to the couches by the fire (too bad it's an electronic fireplace though). The atmosphere was appropriately festive, and we enjoyed the warmth, both physical and aesthetic. The mantlepiece decorated with white candles and baubles was a nice touch. After ordering a round of drinks (they've got a great gin selection, nice variety of beers on tap, and nonalcoholic beverages) we perused the wintry menu. The four of us split a starter of grilled piquillo peppers served with Maldon salt. Delicious. Then on to the mains: I'm vegan, and was blown away by the impossible burger with cheese on a brioche bun served with chips, all 100% plant based. Probably the best burger I've had in years. My partner had the braised pork belly with cavolo nero and mustard mash. Their sister ordered the herbed roasted chicken breast with winter roast veg and Yorkshire pudding, and their brother opted for the fish and chips. All were excellently cooked--I cheekily stole bites from everyone since I'm not going to order meat but I'm enough of a foodie to try a morsel here and there for the grand cause of taste-testing. Special props on the crispy fish and chips. Not a soggy bit in the lot. We enjoyed our visit, staying to play some board games at our fireside table after eating. Service was friendly and menu options were enticing. I hope to visit again once social distancing and pandemic protections allow me to feel safe doing so.

However, this place is so popular you'll need to book in advance, which they make very easy for you to do on their website. It seems that if you haven't booked for game day, you'll be standing. (They have a very classy, user-friendly website as well.) I also hear it's a great place to host parties. Although there is no party room, there are some great corners with couches for hosting large groups. I've never done it but others have told me it's a great place for such events. Hmmm....I just read on here that they have Red Stripe on tap, so I must return...and soon!

To be honest, I don't see what all the fuss is about, unless you're football mad, there's not much going on here. There's certainly room for improvement on the menu, but most come to drink, not quite in the same league as 'The Stonhouse' (clapham common) or 'The Avalon' (clapham south). Would not eat here again unless I had to.

I would try and opt for cocktails during happy hour though as they are fairly expensive outside of that at £6.50 each. It does attract a young crowd and if you get easily annoyed by groups of people singing along to cheesy music, it probably isn't the ideal place for you. The dress code is casual, the atmosphere loud, hyper energetic, and in your face, and the drinks will get you in the singing mood in no time. Keep your eye out for the specials board as these will not only be good value for money but you are likely to get them served in record time since it's the bartenders' pick of the day. Don't be shy about belting one out if your favourite tune comes out over the speakers. The music mix may also be up to the barstaff as it can be quite eclectic with Linkin Park smashing out one minute and a softer Beatles ballad the next. I've also got to give credit to the barman for making 24 mojitos in one go to satisfy our pub golf group. I'd recommend buying your bartender a drink or two early on in the night. I've found that no matter when I go or even to which B@1, the bartenders love a good drink and will take care of you if you are willing to include them in a couple of rounds. I've even managed to get jaegerbombs passed over a crowd. So listen when I say - GET YOUR BARTENDER A DRINK! Plus, drunk bartenders are a little more generous with the pouring so really everyone is a winner. Overall, it's a good place to start a fun night out. Most hot dishes between £9 and £12. Mellow vibe, friendly, young servers. Big after-work crowd too. I am a sucker for gastropubs, and when searching for places in Hammersmith I noticed great reviews for The Stonemason's Arms. It also came highly recommended from one of the locals. They had a number of interesting sounding menu items, so we decided to head there for dinner. In true gastropub style, the menu is quite varied with some unique options. We decided to split one of the sharing boards and went for the Fish Board. It included Devon crab on toast, shell-on king prawns, London Porter smoked salmon, and mussels and clams. The Devon crab was essentially a crab spread on pieces of toast. Both the crab itself and the toast were tasty. The prawns had the "looking at you" vibe, complete with shell, eyes, etc. This meant there was a bit of work getting them ready to eat, but they were also done quite well with a very nice flavor. The smoked salmon was quite nice, with a good smoky flavor that really brought out the salmon. The mussels and clams were a bit different and almost tasted poached. I was expecting more of a boil, so they ended up not being my favorite, but they were still prepared quite well. Several of the mains sounded good, but after poring over the menu for a bit I finally settled on the lamb shoulder. It was a Hampshire lamb shoulder that had been slow braised for 12 hours and served over broccoli, tomatoes, and Jersey royals. The lamb was fall off the bone tender and had a great flavor. The accompaniments were also well-prepared and complemented the lamb nicely. I would have maybe liked the portion size to be a bit larger, but for the price it was quite good. I had room for dessert, and I decided to try the Treacle Tart, something I had never had before. It had a nice molasses flavor and finished off my dinner perfectly. The Stonemason's Arms has a bit of a fancier pub feel, with lots of beer options and quite the crowd as the night wore on. The service was great and very helpful in answering many of the questions we had. The food came out quickly and fresh, and the quality and bang for your buck was great. The Stonemason's Arms is quite a bit different than anywhere I have been in the US, but I quite enjoyed it and hope to return in the future.
