Now my two youngest (and my grand puppy) have started spending some time here also. It is and has always been fabulous! The extra activities, indoor/outdoor stimuli, swim time and walks keep them plenty active so they are exhausted but happy when they come home. The youngest rescue pups have extreme anxiety so new environments scare them and (I'm guessing) make them feel like they are being given away again. The care givers here gave them extra love when we started with very short days once a week--by the 3rd week they were excited to come!! That says everything about the care they feel when they are at CFFC. And their happiness and safety is most important to me --which is why we have been coming for over a decade now! For last 5 years I have lived in west arvada/golden area. We make the drive because this is the only "daycare" I trust to provide a joyful, caring experience that also keeps them all feeling safe, stimulated, and happy!

I purchased a $3,200 German Shepherd puppy from Jayne, owner of Rocky Mountain German Shepherds,…read moreand the experience has been deeply disappointing, stressful, and costly. Jayne assured me the puppy had been examined by her veterinarian and that I would receive documentation confirming German-bred, titled parents. 11 weeks later, I have received nothing. Although I noticed significant negative reviews before purchasing, I chose to give the breeder the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, purchasing from this breeder proved to be the worst decision I could have made for myself and my puppy's health. My experience confirmed many of those same concerns. When I brought the puppy home on 9/18/25, she already had persistent loose stools. That same evening, I emailed Jayne to report (four) very loose stools, request guidance, and share my veterinarian's instructions. My veterinarian of 30 years--at one of Golden's oldest and most reputable hospitals--examined her the next day and immediately found her underweight. An in-house fecal test confirmed Coccidia, and a second lab test identified Giardia. These infections required urgent, prolonged treatment; untreated, they could have been fatal. In over 30 years of owning German Shepherds from reputable breeders, I had never even heard of Coccidia, let alone experienced anything like this. Giardia required multiple rounds of medication, plus an antibiotic, to resolve. Despite my same-day email and immediate notification, Jayne did not respond, offer guidance, acknowledge the health issues, provide assistance or even the potential for reimbursement for the substantial medical and other expenses that followed. The failure to acknowledge serious pre-existing health issues, provide documentation, or respond responsibly was disgusting to experience as a buyer who trusted this kennel. Her only subsequent contact was two brief emails asking, "How is [Puppy's Name] doing - verbatim" Concerned for the puppy's health and deeply frustrated by the atrocious lack of support, I did not respond. Over nearly two months, I administered multiple rounds of medication, purchased 1,000 exam gloves, sanitized all surfaces daily to prevent reinfection, discarded contaminated supplies and infected toys. In my experience, no breeder I have dealt with in 30+ years has required anything like this level of effort to restore a puppy's health. The lack of transparency, unfulfilled promises of documentation, and failure to address serious pre-existing health issues raise serious concerns about this kennel's breeding and veterinary practices. Assurances regarding health checks, responsible care, and proper paperwork were not reliable. This experience has been emotionally exhausting, financially burdensome, and entirely avoidable. Puppies deserve responsible breeders who prioritize their health, and buyers deserve honesty, professionalism, and support--none of which I received here.

I feel like they may also have been lying to my face about the energy level of their puppies - the ONE time I was able to get a hold of these people (by just showing up at their facility), they said their german shepherds weren't necessarily 'high energy' and if I wanted a couch potato dog, their dogs would still be a good fit. I have a really hard believing that. When I left a bad review on Google reviews, this breeder finally responded to my emails threatening me with legal action!!! The dogs are really cute but when you're making a life changing purchase like a puppy, it's impossible to work with a breeder who doesn't respond to any form of communication. I ended up getting a puppy from a different breeder who was far more communicative and easy to schedule visits and pick up with.

The staff is incredibly thorough, but also please also be advised you will probably be there **2 HOURS** if you whole heartedly plan to seriously adopt a new family member. I've seen a lot of complaints that this shelter is short staffed, but keep in mind, many of these people are volunteers trying to help re-home animals to caring, loving owners. The wait was so worth it. We adopted our newest family member, a deaf stray, who is incredibly well behaved. The staff gave us every last detail on his health, behavior, and known history. The handlers were incredibly thoughtful when introducing us to our new pet. They also include several vaccinations, surgery, and a microchip in the adoption fees. They send you home with a list of vets that give you your first check up free (though keep in mind we still needed to add some services such as heart worm). I love Denver Animal shelter and appreciate everything they do!

We rushed him over, I think we were fortunate that night didn't have a lot of other animals coming in and were quickly taken to a room, as they took our cat back for initial observation. We waited roughly 30 minutes in that room until the head veterinarian that night came in to give us her diagnosis along with two separate treatment plans each with a different costs. Let's get this out of the way, medical care and treatment is expensive for humans and animals. Most negative reviews of this location mention issues with cost. A routine annual wellness exam alone at my primary provider is around $150 for roughly 5 minutes of my vets actual time. Now imagine around the clock care cost and a list of medications that can quickly add up. I highly recommend looking into pet insurance or saving as much as possible to get your animals the treatment they need to save their lives. The staff all were extremely attentive, understanding, and honest. The vets answered our every question and made sure we had ample updates. I can't imagine the toughness they need with some of the cases they see daily. They are nice people who deal with so much so please have some compassion for them as well. If you're a staff member reading this, thank you for saving our Miso . In summary, I hope to never have to come here again because it means one of our fur babies are in a bad spot medically but I know they will do everything they can to get them better.
