On a pinch for time I stopped by Lisa's on a weekday wanting a simple meal. Tuna on toasted rye with crust, tomatoes and raw onion. Something about simple sandwiches made with care delivers satisfaction unmatched. Old school sized bag of Utz and a can of soda for $1.50 more is good. I of course arrived right before closing time, so I truly appreciate that they still took me in and provided service. Hometown place and friendly staff! I'll have to come back and try the reuben and other sandwiches. Parking is easy but could be jammed during the peak times. Second time trying a ham and egg breakfast sandwich. The egg was brown and rubbery, way overcooked. The white toast was very, very white, no browning at all. The ham was over smoked and dry. I found this place one time visiting my parents in Pasadena. I wanted a simple sandwich, a few spots around them aren't that great so we are always trying new places to see if any place is worth their salt. This place delivers on the food. I always get an italian hoagie loaded with the works. IT IS SO GOOD. They have a good chicken cutlet sandwich and some others but every time I visit I am always calling Lisa to see if she is open. Some people aren't a fan of the owners "personality" but I feel like she is a no BS former New Yorker. If you don't know that type of personality you won't like this place. This is one of those places that a lot of people see, but probably just drive by. Next time do yourselves a favor and stop. They're only open until 3pm so it's purely a breakfast and lunch joint. I was off work earlier than usual today and had a chance to check it out, and I'm glad I did. I ordered a cheesesteak and a side of slaw. They have a technique with hoagie rolls where they hollow it out instead of slicing it, essentially "stuffing" the ingredients into the roll. Very cool technique that really worked for me. Let me add that the rolls are delicious too. The ingredients were of a high quality and very tasty. The slaw was standard fare but still very good. The Italian Cold Cut is amazing and the bread they use is everything! Idk what the crunchy seasoning is coating the top of the sub but it is delicious! The sandwich is generously filled with meats, provolone and comes with mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle, hots and oil and vinegar I believe. Maybe a hair too expensive for chicken salad, grilled cheese, and ham but still very tasty. The service was quick and made to order. Just picked up carry out from here and their customer service needs serious improvement. I patiently waited on hold to place an order only to be talked to in a nasty rude manner by who ever takes their phone orders. Customers should not have to accept an attitude because of your poor life choice to work in a carry out shop. Simply trying to explain condiments we would like on our subs to be talked to that way I should have chosen to hang up and spend my money elsewhere. Doubtful I would ever order from here again. First timer. I struggled over whether to give them 2 or 3 stars because the experience was good and bad. I decided on 2 because the bad outdid the good. The good: my wife said her italian cold cut sandwich was very good and sized just right for her. The bad: i got the buffalo chicken sandwich. The sandwich was almost a mirror in image and taste to the dollar menu offering of a typical fast food restaurant like McDonald's or BK. No joke, it was on a thin hamburger bun, thin processed breaded chicken patty, slice of cheese, and sauce. No veggies or toppings of any kind! The fries were simple, bland, and small portion. When I was handed the bag (to go) with just my sandwich and fries, I thought something was missing because there was no weight to the bag... less than 1/2 a pound I'm sure. To top it off, my wife tells me she paid $18 for our meals which included just the 2 sandwiches and 2 fries!!!! No drinks. Seriously? And this place is listed with one $. It's only been 20 minutes since I ate but I feel hungry, empty, and taken for a fool. Assessment: Maybe I just chose wrong with the buffalo chicken sandwich. I recommend either of these changes. 1. Strike it from the menu 2. enhance it to be worth what you charge (larger, more toppings, add something unique) 3. create a dollar menu and put this sandwich on it 4. apply a warning label stating "you will be utterly dissatisfied with your purchase" read more
