One of my favorite places to eat at! The people are extremely friendly food is wonderful.

We finally caught this place during the rare phenomenon known as "open hours" and figured we'd live dangerously and try it. If you're a fan of food that tastes like it's practicing social distancing from seasoning, congratulations--you've found your soulmate. We walked in and were told to seat ourselves, which felt a little like being released into a corn maze. The restaurant is chopped into secret rooms you can't see from the entrance, so after poking my head around like a confused meerkat, we gave up and parked ourselves by the front door. It was busy, though I suspect that's due to long-standing loyalty and not a sudden outbreak of taste buds. The waiter greeted us with, "Do you need menus?" No sir, we brought our own crystal ball. Yes, we need menus--we've never been here. The options included tacos, burritos, tostadas, and--mysteriously--a deep-fried hotdog, which felt like it wandered in from a county fair and refused to leave. We ordered the pork chili smothered burritos. When mine arrived, I finished it in under eight bites--new personal record. For $6 I expected a burrito, not a participation trophy. They've clearly built a devoted following of people who enjoy food on mute, so they probably won't notice us slipping away. We wish them well--and if you enjoy culinary adventures in the land of bland, this might be your happy place. read more

Have eaten at Lira's since I was a kid and they seldom fail to deliver. Food is perfect southeast Wyoming comfort food and a Wyoming institution. Be sure to try a taco and their pork chili. read more

Terrible. Food was bland - hamburger appeared to have been cooked in a microwave- was gray and unappetising. We ordered a burrito and enchilada- they looked like the same thing. There was no flavor. I have never had worse Mexican food. Will never return. read more

Disappointed overall.. My wife's burrito and my enchilada looked identical and both were bland, not what we had hoped. My enchilada was a stale odd-tasting flour tortilla with gray beef crumbles and cheese rolled up and served on a cold plate without a knife to cut the rubbery tortilla. The chips and salsa left a lot to be desired, as the salsa was thin and watery and the chips had an old rancid oil taste. On the other hand, the Margaritas were very good, service was good, the interior was clean and we had a quiet meal. read more

Been eating here for about 25 years. This food is craveable!! Actually drove two states through a snow storm to get this for a family gathering. I usually get the beef n cheese enchiladas with pork chili. Plus two hard shell tacos. The tacos are fried with the meat n cheese inside. Awesome. The food is nothing special that you can't get at any other mid range Mexican restaurant. At times it's rather flavorless and dry. The staff can be great, but they can also act as if your a bother. The decor is nice in the place and fits well with the theme which is fun. However, for a small town restaurant, I guess you can't ask for much else. read more

The husband is a caver and we have been driving to Wind Cave Natinal Park for 35 years. If Lira's is open when we drive through Lingle, we stop. Our last stop was on a Sunday right before the 2 pm closing time. The place was packed but we were welcomed in. Everything I have ordered is great but I am especially fond of the green chili. Some of our caver friends have never stopped as they thought it looked empty. We told them it is Lingle, in the middle of no where. They have been converted, it only takes one stop in the family owned restaurant to know this food is made with love. read more

I lived in Lingle, WY, 40 years ago, and Lira's was a favorite then. We drove the 90+ miles from Cheyenne to Lingle just to have lunch at Lira's today. We were definitely not disappointed. There were several families already eating when we arrived -- for a Sunday afternoon in a small Wyoming town close to the restaurant's closing time, the place was hopping. My husband had the Combo Plate and I had Two Beef & Bean Burritos smothered in Green Chili, both with Rice and Beans. The waitress took our order, and before we even had time to try the chips and homemade salsa, our food was ready. Everything was fresh & delicious, but our favorites were the Deep Fried Beef Taco (it was stuffed!) and the Enchilada. If you find yourself in Lingle, WY, you should give Lira's a try! read more

I've been coming to Lira's for about 15 years now as my hubby is from Torrington. We usually come up a few times a year and each and every time we go to Lira's. The enchiladas are awesome! They are not the typical saucy enchiladas that I think most people are used to. First off, they are made with flour tortillas instead of corn and they are stuffed with beef. They are more like little burritos. They also have the best tacos. They are flour tortillas that are deep fried and stuffed with lots of beef. It's the kind of mexican food that I grew up with, that my mom and aunts made. We love Lira's so much that we usually bring enchiladas home! The margs are good and the peeps are awesome! read more

The only reason they're not one star is because considering your options, it's not the worst place to go. Everyone I know loves this place. I've been a few times and will say this: the staff is absolutely wonderful and lovely. They are always smiling and friendly and ask about each person and truly seem to care. The food is quick and cheap. My only issue is the quality- I had the bean and cheese burrito and it's what I make at home. Granted, for a dollar, it's worth it, just something to note. read more

Lingle, Wyoming doesn't have a lot going for it. An incredibly tiny town, even by Wyoming standards, and I'm pretty sure about 95% of the 200 people that live there are related to each other. The only other family in town runs this Mexican restaurant, which is one of the best Mexican places you'll ever find, anywhere. I'm not very knowledgeable about much of anything, but I have eaten Mexican food nearly every where I've ever visited and all of the places that matter, including Mexico. Never had a better plate of Mexican food in my entire life. I'm lucky enough that my parents live 10 miles from here, so I can go back whenever I want. If you live a good life and happen to be lucky, I hope someday you get to experience the best Mexican food in the universe. read more

I think it's actually the only place to stop... but anyway... I currently live in a city with more Mexican restaurants than necessary and Lira's is better than all of them. I have lived in many parts of the United States (including Texas) and I have to say that Lira's still has my heart. I love their enchiladas, tacos, burritos you name it and I could drink their pork chili with a straw!! The staff is awesome and super quick. I know a lot of people think this the bomb for good food. I have eaten here a few times and have never been wowed by the food . I will admit that the refried beans are very good, I would imagine lard may have a lot to do with that. The portions are not very big so order more aka carte. The margaritas are worth a try go big . We thought we would stop and try them again since it had been six months or so that we had eaten here . Surprise the meal we had was better then the last time we had stopped. If you like Mexican food and you're driving through Lingle... keep driving! I recently moved to the panhandle area and, knowing there is no decent Mexican food between Scottsbluff and Torrington, I trusted Yelpers' reviews and drove twenty miles to Lingle to try this place. Womp womp. I would compare Lira's to some of the lower-end chain Mexican food restaurants, but honestly I've had better food in some of those joints. Lira's menu is very limited. Selections consist of tacos, enchiladas and burritos made with ground beef and an assortment of ground beef-filled nonsense "smothered" in an unspecified sauce. I jumped in head first and tried the combination plate, which included a tostada, enchilada, taco and beans. The beans were exceptional; it was clear that they employ copious amounts of lard, which I'm certain will have me running to the toilet in short order. Regrettably, that is where Lira's peaked. Their overuse of flavorless ground beef highlighted a lack of the authenticity I had expected after reading the reviews. The enchilada was merely a glorified burrito; the ground beef and fried flour tortilla taco was bland and unappetizing. read more

The food is okay. They are consistent but every time i eat there it tears my guts up and I am miserable for 2-3 days after. I'm the only one in my family who this happens to so it has to be a spice or something they use that I am not agreeing with. We were passing through the small town of Lingle, WY and saw the parking lot filled for this restaurant. Figured it had to be great. Why would hard working locals pay for bad food? But there isn't much else for miles around, so they have a captive audience...OR perhaps the locals don't know good Mexican. There was only cheese and beans as the protein choice for all the dishes! The menu consisted of tacos, burritos, tostadas, and enchiladas. Everything tasted the same and was quite bland. The chili was very watery and a small pre-packaged sour cream cost $1! The house specialty margarita was basically just mix. The salsa, however, was good and the only tasty thing on the table. Worse than all this, good service and cleanliness were lacking. It wasn't a super cheap restaurant, so save your money (and stomach) and move on to the next town. read more

Thanks for being on our route to Sturgis, SD. I knew our group of 4 didn't want to stop in Lusk, WY for food, but we weren't sure what where to have lunch......then we stumbled on Lira's. Clean, inexpensive, fast & friendly service with good food. No complaints. We had to try the fried hot dog for $2 just because it was wrapped in a fried tortilla! Not really a meal, but was a fun snack to try. Made a point of stopping there again on our way home to CO. They close at 2pm (which we did not know), but we just made it in time. Probably the worst "mexican" food I have ever had in my life. Canned refried beans, flavorless ground beef. Oh, that reminds me, you can get any meat you want...AS LONG AS IT'S GROUND BEEF! I try not to give reviews on the mediocre preferring them for the excellent but sometimes the reviews that come up are so misleading, and I'm so disappointed by the result of accepting them, that I will comment. This, I believe, is the first time I have said anything unpleasant about a restaurant (Lingle Wyoming location in case there are others). If I could give 2.5, I would. The salsa is virtually tasteless, The rice and beans were okay and there was a lot of them; maybe to distract from the fact that the entree was small -- about the size of a side dish. At one point I thought I had a foreign body in my food. It it turned out to be a quite large piece of underripe tomato - the only piece of tomato I noted. Everything is takeaway now due to Covid so maybe they do a little better when they have to face their customers. Anyway, barely average, bland but you won't get ill from eating it. I'd avoid the place if you have any better option. read more

I love this place. Such friendly people and great food! I love Ralph's fries which are just fries with cheese and hamburger on it. Their fried ice cream is really good also. If you go here I recommend eating light so you're able to get the ice cream for the finishing touch. read more

Let's be serious... Lira's is ok... not exceptional, but certainly ok. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. Lira's has been around for a very long time and has established themselves in this little community. However, there are several reasons why I can't give it more than 3 stars. 1) The menu is limited. If variety is the spice of life, then Lira's is salt and pepper. The food is ok, but not 5 stars by any means. 2) Their nachos look and taste like something I could get at a high school basketball game, not a restaurant. Chips out of the bag and nacho cheese out of the pump. 3) Speaking of chips... the chips they serve as appetizers when you first sit down, always look like they came from the bottom of the bag. Not just once or twice has this happened to me, but every single time. If Lira's was the only Mexican restaurant in the area, I would probably go there more. But it's not, so I don't. read more

I don't typically leave reviews, but we chose this place because it had so many great reviews. If you are a lover of authentic Mexican like we are, I have to first warn you this is not it! One reviewer said she had been going to this place for decades and loved it. She must be a local who's never been to Texas or New Mexico. First, the ground beef in my taco had no seasoning. It tasted very bland as though no chili powder or cumin was added. The chips looked and tasted store-bought, the salsa had a little spice/flavor but was like water, the deep-fried taco shell was tasty but super greasy, and the cheese they used on the taco was actually cheddar. Yes, really. Also, the staff didn't seem to care too much about patrons (or maybe it was just us), including the man behind the register who I feel was maybe the owner. We were on a road trip and always look forward to great Mexican. We didn't say anything but left sorely disappointed. We love great food and don't mind paying for it along with great service. But we don't appreciate paying for substandard quasi-Mexican. And usually, I don't care if a place is a little run-down -- sometimes the best food comes from such places. However, in this case, I'll mention it since the experience lacked in every other way. It filled the hole, and that's about it. I guess I can add we didn't get sick, so there's a silver lining. For carne asada lovers with an empty belly, my best advice is to go elsewhere. Great Mexican is more than just slapping ground beef in a shell. Please just leave Mexican food to the people who do it best ... Mexicans. read more
