For a small, desolate town driven primarily by the Ag industry and the retirement demographic, this is truly a gem of a business. When someone pictures a great coffee shop in most other areas of the US, they get more different visions than what the Java Jar is. This is, in a way, its charm! It really feels like someone's tiny little kitchen got renovated into a cafe. It's cozy and the the service is always friendly the many times I've been there. I would have to agree that it may not be the cheapest place to get coffee, but that's fine with me. I'll pay a little extra to feel comfortable and welcome in this coffee shop. I reserve the 5th star because while I feel comfortable, I'm not really that keen on the whole country bumpkin decor. I never did eat the food, but those I went with never had anything bad to say. Overall, if you are familiar with this town of Torrington, you'll agree that it is one of a few places that really stand out and one that you'll be sure to revisit anytime you go through Torrington. read more

Beautiful little coffee shop. Lots of little colorful treats. They sell breakfast & and lunch, which is always a plus! Unfortunately, they did not get my order correct. They served it hot instead of iced & since I was in a rush, I didn't say anything but was disappointed They do have a lovely little gift shop area, but it was really odd because nothing in the gift shop was coffee related!?? I was looking for a unique coffee cup, tea pot, or coffee scented candle but NOTHING. it was kinda weird. Overall, I would go back again, but there are things they could be doing better. read more

Maybe it was the wrong time and the wrong day, but it was a disappointment. I ordered from the chalk-menu stand on the ground and was told that they quit serving that menu, so my girlfriend and I ordered a pair of iced coffees with cream. Something was sour, she couldn't finish hers and I forced 1/3 down before throwing it out. We stopped here on a road trip to get some work done. I got a bagel with cream cheese and my boyfriend got a parfait and a frappacino. All was good! They have a very large selection of drinks and food items. The atmosphere was nice and there is a very nice bathroom as well as water bottle fill up station. We stayed for four hours working and the place was pretty hopping. The WiFi is slow but I'm not sure you can bag a place on that. All in all it was just what we needed. read more

I love java jar. When my family comes into town and we want coffee, or soup, or even some breakfast we can just say yeah let's go to java jar. It's a good place to go to after school, and with friends. It's in a friendly neighbor, and it is a great community. Customer service is always great, there is always at least one worker trying to crack a joke. It is a nice place to go of your looking for some peace and quiet. There is also a mini little shop inside. I recommend Java Jar to anyone who has never gone and wants to give it a try. read more

The coffee was AWFUL! So bad to the point where we had to dump out $15 worth of coffee into the rocks. Burnt, watery, and nose curling is how I would best describe this coffee. Don't waist your time here. Go to AJ's Soda up the road! That is where we got our second cup of coffee which was 100x better. read more

This place is fairly good, one of the select few coffee shops that has managed to stick around. I personally think that this place is too overpriced, so if you have the dough then go. Otherwise stick to making your own coffee and sandwiches because you will be charged 2-3x more than what you could make these items for. I enjoy the smoothies and cold coffee drinks to say the least. Ick.... if you really like coffee... as in 'if you roast your own beans and know how coffee is supposed to taste' don't go here. Period. Anything else is fluff. Very disappointing. We love visiting the shop during trips home, but we were out of time and decided to call ahead. After being told it would be 15 minutes we were surprised, but ended up getting there in 15 and waiting 30. Spending 20 dollars on something that was not hot or good is not pleasing. Parking is less than convienent and the hallway always smells like ciggerates from the neighboring businesses smoking inside the buliding. I wish they had a drive through like 3 D's. I've only ever had two drinks there in 3 YEARS because the Menu in the store and the togo MenuS (as in more than one) are VERY POORLY organized and its overwhelming to walk in and have handwritten menus covering three walls! Too many options and poor grouping. Not necessary to have every flavor listed some things are standard i.e. vanilla, hazelnut, ameretto, strawberry etc... highlist the ones that make you special. The food is pretty yummy but a bit over priced I feel. On a very positive note though the crossant sand are yummo and the Chicken artichoke soup is my VERY VERY favorite!!
