Worst Place ever. The staff ushered me out and treated me in a disrespectful manner. I may have had some alcohol in my system but that is no reason to talk to me in that manner. I had a back and forth with their disrespectful owner also. Businesses now days will collect your money but will not even give you a basic level of respect. Go to one of the great bars in state college and don't waste your time here. Its all about the good vibes and good times and I didn't receive that from the staff here and won't be returning. read more

Lion's Den - Disrespectful - Bars Near Me - State College, Pennsylvania

I do not leave Yelp reviews. With that being said, I genuinely hope this place loses their liquor license. I'm a senior participating in my first bar crawl. We had one bar left on the list, Den. Yes. We know it's the underage bar. But it's bar crawl weekend. Don't make seniors wait in line with underage kids. The group behind us AND in front of us were asking the entire time if "their ID's would work". When we got to the door, we were told we were in the wrong line and needed to pay $40 cover per person. Which should have been included with the T Shirts we bought. All we wanted was a single shot and to leave. They signed up for the bar crawl (for seniors) and instead choose to cater to underage kids. I hope management gets what is coming to them. read more

I have never actually been to this establishment however I have strong opinions about it. I gave them one star, but I would give them 0 stars if it was an option. The reason I dislike this establishment is because densday is on a Tuesday and it makes me mad. It should obviously be on a Wednesday. Densday Tuesday... Oh no. Wednesday Densday... Hooray. It rhymes and is better. I feel very passionately about this topic and would like action to be considered to fix this travesty. read more

When my best friend was a Penn State student (a long time ago now) and I would come up for a visit, we'd always hit the Lion's Den...and it was always GREAT. Always great looking college women, strong drinks, great music, and the drinks were cheap. This isn't the old Lion's Den. Since I am not a regular in State College anymore I don't know if they are dealing with too much competition or they are trying to figure out their niche, but this place wasn't great when we were here on a Friday night of a home game weekend. Place was pretty empty when we arrived (like REALLY empty), and after about 45 minutes we had to leave...it just wasn't my crowd as it started filling with idiots. Drinks were cheap, but so was the alcohol. Probably the last time I'll be in the Den...too many other places that are better. read more

The best things about the den 1) the line isn't terrible 2) you can go outside to relieve your nose from the stank inside This is DANCE bar. The second you walk in everyone's dancing, grindin and yelling. Which isn't a bad thing if that's what you want. I've never come here sober nor will i ever plan to. The downstairs is definitely more calm and subtle unlike upstairs. The bathrooms here are obviously disgusting, but downstairs bathroom is much better. This is a college bar 100% and that's what you get. BUT they have SEX PANTHER SHOTS! They're amazing but when I was here for homecoming last weekend, only the bartender downstairs knew how to make them. Um... hello, it's one of their signature shots, learn how to make them. That is all read more

Over the weekend, me and my friend decided to go visit penn state and we were eager to go out. It's a shame that the den bouncers had other plans for our night... We went with a big group of people and after letting the first 6 girls in they denied both of us without any reason. Keep in mind we're both 21 and have ids that are very much real. When we asked why, The bouncer simply said "you're not getting in faggots" and shoved us in an effort to get us to leave. Ignoring the slur used by the bouncer there attitude was obnoxious and they seemed almost excited to deny us entry using physical force. This experience has made me hate this bar with a passion and I will NEVER be returning. Some advice for the owner: fire your bouncers or one day they're gonna get charged with assault or a hate crime as they committed both last night. Not to mention the countless customers they put off by being complete assholes. read more

You do not want to go to this bar if you just want to relax and have a good time with your friends. They have a fairly big dance floor for everyone feeling the groove. Also you will have no trouble getting a drink because they have three bars in total. The drinks are also cheap, their long island ice tea go for $2, however if you are going to pay with a credit card there is a $6 minimum, so I would recommend bringing some cash. You will not get those kinds of prices anywhere else in State College. If you don't care about a bar's cleanliness, this is the bar for you because the bathrooms get pretty filthy. Overall I do not recommend this place. read more

Lion's Den - a group of people sitting at a bar - Bars Near Me - State College, Pennsylvania

I was at a conference in State College and wanted to hear some Hip Hop music, there aren't too many places to choose from so I ended up here. I was there on a Wednesday night and it seems like everyone knows each other, it was cool, the drinks were cheap and the party was ok. Just make sure that you are not like Chris Rock said, "be the old man at the club." Ditto on the bathrooms, you have to go in a trough so fellas keep your eyes ahead. State College is a cool place, but I am glad to be back in the city. read more

If you're a football player or having relations with a football player and/or a bouncer here this is your spot. If not, be prepared to wait on line until 1am while the football players and their hoes/bros enter in for free. Once inside though it's pretty fun but it's not worth the long wait to be quite honest. read more

So when i started coming here last year i though it was alright, you know i had a good time because i was with my friends but not really my crowd or anything special. But than this year this place has really become a great tuesday spot. the $2 call its are a great deal, especially if you get there early and ask for good alcohol, they will give it. later on tho they do use very cheap alcohol but can't really expect anything different in a college town. a lot of my friends go on tuesdays and the crowd is a lot more greek [life] so it is way fun on tuesdays. their also is no cover which is great. line can get bad sometimes but never awful. otherwise a great place to drink and dance and hang with your friends read more

I like this place when you can get an outside seat and watch the town walk by. You are on Calder Alley so always something to see. Super nice on warm summer days to sit and watch the T&A. The drinks are cheap, the bar is a dive. When it is packed the place is awful, don't go in. read more

One of my favorite bars at Penn State. Drinks are dirt cheap, always a band or DJ playing good music, and all my friends seem to end up there. It's nice outside on the patio watching people walk by and in the winter they keep the tarps up with a heater. After about midnight, the inside turns into a mini dance floor, which is nice if you want to dance but don't feel like going to Indigo. Minus 1 star for the awful awful bathrooms. Theyre gross and the doors never shut, so make friends with the ladies who walk in with you! read more

All of you writing bad reviews is not who this bar was created for. As someone who feels more at home partying in places like Philly or D.C. this place is a guaranteed-fun time, a little slice of the city. Sometimes you don't want the affected mess of Local Whiskey or deal with N*Sync being played 15x at the Gaff. You want to dance to actual decent music, you want cheap drinks and you want it NOW. The Den gives the people what they want read more

I love the Lion's Den, aka "The Den"! It's the most diverse bar in State College. It's is definitely a dance club with loud music and a large dance floor. There is a pole with elevated surfaces as well too! They have a great happy hour as well with $2 Long Island Iced Teas. Additionally there's an outside patio area along with a quieter area downstairs. Another plus is that there's a great guy named Ken's Best Wurst who has the best hotdogs in all of State College, check him out! read more

One of the best places to dance on Thursday nights. $2 drinks, great music. The bathroom get gross on a busy night

I don't know why I occassionally stop in here. The only thing this place has going for it is the outdoor seating. The service is slow and not always friendly. The menu (when they had one) was substandard. It does have a decent TV set up for sports but such limited seating you better expect to stand. Way too many other options in State College to spend time here. read more

I recently was here for a private event. I had checked a jacket in and was given a ticket. At the end of the night when I went to get my jacket, I was informed it was not there. I waited until everyone else got their jackets, and still there was no sign of my jacket. They either lost it, gave it to another person, or someone took it when the person who was working jacket check should have made sure the jackets were getting back to the right people. I now have to replace the jacket, my dorm key, and everything inside of it for something that was out of my control. My tip is if you come here, don't bring a jacket. They have no system whatsoever. I will not be coming back to this establishment. read more

Used to be really great. Bartenders are super nice. DJ on Thursday nights is really bad. I think his name is DJ Jus? Regardless, who wants to dance to 2006 hits and Frozen/ Little Einstein's all night? read more

If you don't like being touched DON'T go here. Bathrooms are disgusting and I was aggressively pushed by a employee because I wasn't allowed to go downstairs at the end of the night to get my jacket. I was not being difficult and proceeded to wait and was pushed back very hard. This was a man pushing a very small female and it hurt... It was disgusting and felt extremely disrespected. I was NOT being difficult, but this person didn't seem to care in the slightest. This was the last straw, I've been here multiple times, but I just can't hang somewhere that I fear I'm going to be shoved, groped, etc. if you like that, be my guest and have fun!! read more

Bekkah the bartender is the best!!!!!! I followed her here from champs... She is so attentive and makes great drinks!!! great service!!!

This is my spot! Whenever I go, it's popping off son- nothing but chugging liquor and grinding on drunk chicks. If you want to smoke weed, don't be rude and go outside to the patio, no one likes the guy who smokes reefer in the bathroom. read more

For what it is the Den does it wonderfully. If you want a quiet night out with friends this isn't the place for you. But if you plan on getting wild and making some bad decisions the den is the best place in state college to do so. read more

This place was marginally suspect when I was a student. It's a complete hole now. If I could give it zero stars, I would. No beers on tap. No food. Shoes stuck to the floor, and I paid a cover for no entertainment (no band, dj, etc.). read more

I was here for a bachelorette party this past Thursday night. We were having a great time, until the security guard watched his "girlfriend" take $200 and my ID out of my purse and refused to do anything. My purse was down next to me for a total of 30 seconds when I was pick pocketed by the "girlfriend" of the security who was standing right next to us. When I confronted her, she eventually opened her purse and retrieved MY ID from her wallet. The money must have been in her bra, but ownership failed to confront the girl for it and resolve the situation even though everyone saw her take it. Instead, they reprimanded me for reacting to the situation- I was clearly upset- and assured me that their security guy was a "good person". I may be from out of town, but there's still a level of human decency that should be held when a friend of an employee robs a customer. read more

Always a good time. They play a variety of music favorites. The specials are a steal, and there is plenty of room to stand, sit, or dance. Inside, there are two bars and plenty of service. On certain days during the week, karaoke is available. read more

State College has been expanding and growing from a small town, into a city quite rapidly. Over the last 15-20 years new stores, restaurants, and bars have opened and closed down. There are now roughly 10-15 bars that can be found throughout the town, many of which have very credible names and are of higher quality. The Den is not one of them. The lighting is bad, its small, and in a place that is supposed to max out its capacity around lets say... 75/100 people.. they provide only about 2 chairs. Its a bar, not a club. Bars have stools, and tables. Clubs have dance floors. The only thing that it has going for it is its specials and for the fact they know how to make a pretty decent drink. If you go and actually enjoy yourself there, then you've probably had one to many. read more
