Apparently, it's the oldest bar in the state of the country or something like that. It's in a basement. It's very grungy. The drinks are extremely reasonable. Nothing fancy service from bartenders is average. Very big college bar.

If you are 21, hit this place up. Are you 22? Cool, you should go here too. The day you walk across the stage and collect your college diploma should probably be the last day you go to this bar. Phyrst is your quintessential college dive bar. Small confining space, guys wearing super tight tshirts showing off the one condom that has been in their wallet since 11th grade, girls wearing high heels and little else, bouncers with muscles as big as your head, cheap booze, loud live music, one working toilet in the bathroom, sticky wet floor...you get the idea. Within the first 5 minutes, I slipped and completely wiped out flat on my back on the floor. Grown ups, enter at your own risk. College kids, live it up.

We are here to visit Penn State and this place is themed with Penn State pictures. My son really liked seeing the white out game photo on the wall. It has plenty of parking if you drive. We were greeted and sat right away. They have a mix of high top tables, low tables, bar seating inside and they have an outside patio too. We sat inside at booth style seating. Chairs were comfortable nice padding. Our waitress was nice told us there was a wing special today 10 for $10. We got the wings with bbq sauce. They have other flavors too. They were very good but when came out were so hot I had to let them sit a bit to cool down to really enjoy. We also both got cheesesteaks. I got mine the chef Pat Way which was great. My son got the chicken ranch cheesesteak and he devoured it. They gave those fresh wipes since we had wings. The waitress checked in nicely to see for drink refills or anything needed. We had a great dinner after long day of driving. This would be a great place to watch games too they have lots of tvs.

The staff is SO incredibly welcoming and friendly, and always points us towards great dishes (shoutout to Kip, whenever he's my server I always just order whatever he recommends!). So far some of my favorites have been the espresso-crusted venison (winter 2025-26) and the ramp risotto (spring 2026). It's rare to find a place with so much passion for local ingredients and showcasing the season. This is the obvious spot for a celebration or to impress your out-of-town guests. The place is also gorgeous. It's cozy without being dark. The staff always welcomes you and checks in frequently. I also want to give a shoutout to the cocktails. Everything here is very well crafted and there's great variety. I also love the wines. The list is extensive, but you can't go wrong choosing a bottle from the seasonal highlights on the menu. Even if you don't have time for dinner, it's worth stopping at the bar just for a drink!

Given that the Lobby bar is on the 2nd floor of the Allen Street Grill, it is away from the hustle and bustle of College Ave. As a whiskey fan, we enjoyed both LB Martinez and Philly-Philly.

This review is for take-out as I was TAPPED out after freshman orientation and the heat. Let's…read morestart with why it is 5 stars when I'm going to make some critical comments....the reason? The burger was that good. Because I want to end on a positive, let me start with negatives: the fries were okay. Normally these are a side dish not worth mentioning but this restaurant makes them a star with a fry menu. ( I humbling suggest they try frying in beef tallow to make it a whole other fry experience). The other critical comment is my French onion soup (on take out) was really cold and we weren't late nor (but for the fries) anything else cold. To give you reference, I microwaved for 1 minute and was still cold and did another 1:30. But it was delicious. Now, why 5 stars? The burgers. My son and I both got the Lancaster burger with horseradish mayo on the side and substituting wagyu. It was heaven. It was perfection. We still think and talk about that burger and any food that makes you miss is worth 5 stars!

One of our favorite stops in State College to meet up with family. Service is quick, the staff and waitress were helpful on suggestions and keep it real with you regarding what they like/don't like. The setting with the fireplace and views of the golf course and lake are beautiful. Love this spot. If you are heading to State College, give it a go!
