On a road trip with my fiancé and my mom, and we happened to stay at the Western Inn here in Oakridge. We just wanted to stop by somewhere to get food before we lost signal and we stumbled upon Lion Mountain Bakery from following the signs on the road. We were surprised to see what was inside. Around 11am there was a performer singing some sweet neologisms. There were also lots of art that you can purchase, some books that you're able to check out. I'm guessing this is where the people of Oakridge come to get work done because there were ample seats and WiFi set up. In fact, there were a couple people getting work done when we got here. What we got: Breakfast burrito $9 Breakfast sandwich $9 Shriek breakfast sandwich $10 Quiche $6- goes well with ketchup and green Tabasco sauce Triple Timber $6- specialty drink that has: hazelnut+caramel mocha with 3 shots of espresso The Roaring Lion $5.5: vanilla chai tea latte with 2 shots of espresso. There were also affordable baked goods like cookies, scones, abs brownies depending on what you're craving. I read a review that someone mentioned it took a while to get a sandwich. The lady at the front mentioned that there would be a wait time of 30 minutes because they had a limited space at the grill- so it was nice we were warned beforehand. I got the breakfast burrito togo. It was pretty great and tasty with the salsa. The lady who manned the cashier was really friendly.

This place is a little strange if you've only experienced "city style" cafes/bakeries because this is more like a bakery/community center/craft fare fusion. They have a large parking lot, and the building itself is huge - only a fraction of it is devoted to the bakery. The rest of the building has items on sale made by local folks, and there was live music while we were there. There were definitely some locals just enjoying their afternoon there, and the bathrooms were surprisingly clean and smelled nice (considering they are right on the highway I would've expected more "wear and tear"). I was also pleasantly surprised by how dog friendly they are there. My dog was able to come inside and eat with us, which was very nice because it was a hot day out. The food: a burrito and a veggie quesadilla were also very good - the salsa definitely was house made & was great. I will mention, as others have also brought up, the serve time was slow. I wasn't really paying attention because I was having fun looking around & the locals were busy petting my dog and talking to me. I also am from the country myself, so I just accept that "time moves differently out here", and I prefer the "slower lifestyle". So I was in no rush to get the food, and I'd rather have good food than fast food. If we ever drive through this area again, we're definitely stopping by. read more

Go here! Such a great local place. Open just 8am-1pm each day Thursday-Monday. Huge space with lots of seating options and a variety of local/handmade crafts that a charming. They had full entree selections but we just went in for coffees and the kids talked us into brownies for later. The mocha and chai latte we ordered are fantastic! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Locals came to eat, which is always a good sign too! Skip the chains and support local, especially when it's better taste and service too! read more

Food is good if you have an hour to wait. And I'm not kidding! It's kind of like serve yourself but you can't get your own refills so you are stuck with warm city water to drink. Service is terrible. I will never be back again. The ridge taco shop down the way is the place for breakfast if you just want to get going and not spend hours of your morning waiting for a flipping bagel sandwich... I think she forgot to tell us the bagels were not cooked yet. Just awful. read more

We stopped in for breakfast before leaving town. I was expecting more bakery choices - but we are late in the biking season and also this pandemic that doesn't seem to go away may have affected business. My husband and I each had a breakfast sandwich that was good. My coffee was very weak, and my husband's mocha had cinnamon in it which he didn't ask for. But the server/cashier was very nice. The place has some intriguing arts and crafts for sale. It looks like they have live music sometimes, and that would have been enjoyable. read more

On a wet, rainy morning driving on highway 58, we came upon the Lion Mountain Bakery and Cafe. It's a big, old open space with kitchen tables scattered throughout with books to read, art and brick-a-brack on the walls, and what looks like a stage for a band to play. It's a perfect place to stop and enjoy a delicious apple pear tart or a ham and onion quiche with a cup of coffee or tea. We had the tart and their apple blueberry muffins. Everything was delicious and so tasty. Service was friendly and quick. If we're ever on highway 58 again in this part of Oregon, we'll definitely stop by again. read more

Totally trippy place but absolutely delicious food! Not many options in Oakridge for breakfast, but this one is enough because its small menu is totally spot on. I got the biscuits and gravy with two eggs and the eggs were done perfectly and the biscuits and gravy were great. Others in my party got the eggs scramble, which looked awesome, the French toast (with real maple syrup!) which looked good, and a breakfast sandwich. Nice service and the place is a bit of an emporium which meant I found a fun book to read too. All around very well worth the stop if you're coming through Oakridge. The have lunch too and based on the breakfast, I'm sure it's good. read more

If you're passing through town on the 58, stop at the Lion Mountain Bakery! All I can comment on are the chocolate chip cookies and (presumably) the woman who runs the place, but both are top notch and make a visit worthwhile. I stopped in just before closing time a couple weeks ago. The baked goods case was pretty bare, as it should be for a bakery at closing time, but there were 2 chocolate chip cookies left so I bought them both. And they were excellent! I also chatted up the woman working the counter and she was really nice. I intended to stop in again for a lot more of both the next day as I drove back through town but it was late and the place was closed. Bummer. If you have time, this could be a great place to just chill for a while. The space is huge and the menu had many tempting items in it. When you do visit, be sure to pick up more baked stuff than you think you need because once you start eating it, you'll immediately wish you had more. :) read more

I work for Cogwild, a Mt. Bike Tour company that does some trips in Oakridge. We use Lion Moutain to provide on trail lunches for our guests on the trail. They provided us with some delicious and hearty sandwiches for our guests. They also had them prepared in no time and added some yummy desserts to boot! Happy to find this place on recent trips to ski The Pass. Great coffee and to-go sandwiches* make this place a perfect morning stop before a day up on the hill. Eclectic decor, a friendly proprietor, and lots of places to sit puts you in a great mood to start the day. The Lion is located just two blocks from the other hot spot in Oakridge: Brewers Local. Take a stop off the beaten path (it's just north just two blocks from Hwy 58) and have some local culture on your trips to the east. It's totally worth it, and way better than Subway! *The only downside? No pickles. read more

This lovely little place was an absolute treat to find. The ownership just so happened to also be the very folks that made & served my breakfast. And they sure couldn't have been any sweeter folks! While it's true that I enjoyed every bit of this place... I reeeeeally enjoyed my breakfast. I had a deeeelicious omelet and a few bites from my gf's meal. I sipped a few cups of coffee (which was also hot & good) and enjoyed some of their baked goods, for the road. All-around, this place was a hit. The folks behind the counter were a joy to interact with, and some of the patrons were quite fun to look at... looking like froto or something in their leather garb & pouches. One lady looked like she may well live in a cave somewhere in the surrounding hills, yet she was plugged in with her MacBook Pro. :) I look forward to future stops at LMB, and more good people-watching. read more

Cute little place in Oakridge. Fresh baked muffins, bread, and scones in the case. Spoke with the owner and she uses fresh and as local as she can get ingredients with several organic items as well. Lots of who grains used with nuts and other little flavor adders hidden about. I got two loafs of the wheat bread for home. Heavy and dense! Went great with ham and cheese sandwiches. It was meant to be a quick stop on the way home out of the mountains. We ordered one coffee and two breakfast sandwiches (bread, egg, cheese, bacon) and it took over 45 minutes after ordering to get our to-go meal. Food was alright, but the wait is definitely not worth it and unfortunately, I think the wait effected our enjoyment of the food. read more

These guys have some of the best bagels in central Oregon. The atmosphere is decidedly Oregon-hippy-cafe, the service is efficient but definitely not OVERLY friendly. The espresso is standard. My soy latte was made with an uber sweetened soymillk, so, THAT was kind of a turn-off - but overall - go here for bagels and you won't be disappointed. The french toast was WAY below average. The hours posted is not accurate. They close at 1 pm not 3 pm. Arrived at 1:03 pm on Sunday and they saw we were coming in and quickly closed the door. The guy saw we were in a semi truck and we are limited in our schedules yet didn't accommodate. We occasionally pass through this town and they are always closed when we want to stop. Went a few days ago and got 2 fabulous little quiches, one ham & cheese, one veggie - both excellent - and a plum custard. Yum. Today for breakfast he had 1/2 order biscuits & gravy with 2 eggs over easy, I had the crepe with spinach, potato, garlic and feta. All very good. Great place to go for a coffee and some of their delicious breads. Tried the sandwiches for a snack out on the trail later and they were good, although slightly skimped on the amount of meat. Also had breakfast one morning. Good meat and your choice egg plate, but was inconsistent portion to my friends plate from the previous day. Love Lion Mountain. Not only do they bake delicious home made gluten free muffins and brownies but they sell jars of the best local honey around, incredible local art and plenty of other tasty treats. Lion Mountain also has lots of options for coffee drinks including rice, soy and almond milk. AND the prices are awesome. Where else can you buy a home made gluten free muffin for $1.75? This is a great little place to eat in Oakridge. It's in a larger building that appears to be a venue for music and also serves as a tee shirt store. Our sandwiches and soup were delicious and the woman running the place was very sweet. I highly recommend stopping here for a bite. Note: Google Maps will take you to the old location. Lion Mountain Bakery is my second favorite business in Oakridge (see my reviewof the Brewer's Union Local 180 Pub, too!). The owner, Jackie, is quite nice and her goodies are just the ticket for stuffing into your backpack before hitting the treasure trove of nearby trails on your mountain bike. I became an instant fan of the pecan shortbread bars and the brownies. Soups and sandwiches, individual pizzas, and a host of other tasty treats await you at this special little bakery. read more
