Went to visit this store during the Warwick Apple Festival and was met with extremely poor service…read moreand an unexpected surcharge on my purchase. We browsed the store for a bit and found 2 pieces to purchase. Nothing massively expensive or large, the bill total was around $500, so it also wasn't exactly a tiny amount. Once we had finished browsing, we requested to pay and were left standing around waiting. One of the salespersons asked us if we wanted to see anything and we replied there were two items behind the desk we had chosen and we just wanted to pay. We were met with a blank stare and I don't think she actually heard us. Meanwhile the salesperson who had been assisting us was walking around the store asking if anyone needed help, as we stood there clearly within her view by the register waiting to pay. The other person went into the back and the woman who had helped us select our pieces proceeded to help someone else and even ring her her $95 purchase as we continued to stand there waiting to check out. Then finally she retrieved our pieces and proceeded to ring us up. When I saw the total, I asked if there was some additional tax outside of the normal Orange County 8.125% tax as the bill was higher than expected. I was then told there is a surcharge for credit card payments....after my card had already been swiped and approved! So basically this store charged me an additional 4% on top of the sales price without notifying me or asking if I preferred to pay cash to avoid the fee. I was also told that 'this is normal and happens everywhere.' Are you kidding me? Last time I checked, it is ILLEGAL to do this without CLEAR SIGNAGE posted at the point of payment. I did not see any clear signs and only saw this AFTER I PAID on my receipt. Frankly that is incredibly shady, poor business and just plain wrong. It's not a massive amount of money, but it's the principle of the matter. I left with a very bad taste in my mouth and will be sure to spread the word locally to friends and family as this is not ok and would recommend they keep walking to the competition down the street for equally nice pieces with fair business practices. Oh and to add further insult to injury, looking at their site to place orders, there is no 'credit card surcharge' listed. Absolutely horrendous.

She really took a liking to several of the jewlery items there, which were all moderately priced. We actually left without purchasing anything and went next door to Yesterdays because we were starving. After we ordered I told her I needed to use the bathroom and made a dash back to Kaliada to get an Empower Bracelet i saw she was gawking over. I spent about 5mins with her that day - i knew what i wanted when i came in. She was the one attempting to "change my decision", when she tried to pull a bait-and-switch on me, i left your store immediately. There was no back and forth on my decision-making, none of my requests "evolved" into something different, i knew what i wanted when i called and when i came in. I wanted a basket setting w/ push back that has a flap. Polyanna was trying to upsell me with different backs where she immediately doubles the price to $850. So i said no to that immediately. I told her I just want the basket settings and push backs with the flap that she quoted $450 for. When she wouldn't honor her own quote, and still want to charge me $850, i left your store straight away. It's pretty clearly "her word against mine" here, and whoever wants to believe which side, is what it is. All I'm trying to convey is that i was able to find a reputable jeweler (Alfred Jeweler) that was able to do, what you called a "minor service" at a fair price $520 with all 14k white gold. They didn't just spit out a number in the air. They weighed the gold settings and backs in front of me before giving a final price, with all the specs i wanted. No "scrap metal" as you're trying to imply. If your settings and backs are truly priced per piece and "not by weight". Then it makes less sense why the price would go up to $850. I gave her the specific settings and backs that i wanted to purchase. She quoted me $450 total. ------------------ ORIGINAL REVIEW: Please read if you DO NOT want to get swindled by this business! I have a very specific situation, but if you make it to the end of this review, it will become clear how dishonest they can be. Be wary when doing business with Danson. I've been calling around local jewelers to get quotes for mounting 2 matching diamonds (1 carat each) that i own, into stud earrings. I've searched high and low, coz I was very specific about a few things. I was receiving quotes between $400-$500, to set my 2 diamonds into 14k white gold. Pretty consistent price anywhere i called. I'd also mention i want the basket setting, push back with the flap to avoid the earrings from drooping. These are my exact words every time i make a call. So I call Danson jewelers and spoke to this woman, Pollyanna. She said they can do that and she gave me a quote at $450. Again, pretty consistent with other shops, and she said i can even watch and wait for my earrings to be set. I thought... perfect!! Well, i show up there and she was trying to upsell me with a screw back... for $850! So I said "i just want the push back with a flap, that we talked about over the phone, that you quoted $450 for". She wouldn't honor that quote, she said it would still be $850 because of the gold prices". Mind you, we just talked over the phone an hour ago from that time... I highly doubt gold shot up that high within an hour. I have done my research, i've called and been to many jewelers before showing up to Danson. For her to double the price, without even weighing the gold settings and backs on a scale, it was quite clear what she was trying to do. One big positive that came out of this though... is that i got my amazing earrings made, by my (now) amazing jeweler - ALFRED JEWELERS in Glen Rock! I got all the specs i wanted for $520. Yes, this is with the 14k white gold, basket setting and earring backs, that Danson was trying to charge me $850 for! The owner at Alfred jewelers actually weighed the gold right there before giving me the final price. For my peace of mind, he also put my diamonds under a microscope (in front of me), took pictures of what they call a "diamond fingerprint" both in the beginning, and when i picked up, so i can confirm that they're my exact same diamonds I'm taking home. I love my new studs. Sadly, Danson is just another opportunistic business that isn't thinking about a possible long term relationship with a new client.

Instead of going to Banter to buy my daughter's Christmas Gift I came here. I ordered a nameplate for her on Dec 9th and was assured that it would be there on time for Christmas. I called and text in the days leading up to Christmas and got the run around. Finally I showed up right before closing on Christmas Eve and was told there was an issue with the shipment and it wouldn't be ready by Christmas. The staff apologized and offered me a small necklace free of charge so my daughter had something to open, while promising that the necklace would be there the following week and they would reach out when it's ready. Now here I am, over a week later and I'm being sent to voicemail and my text messages are going unanswered. Be careful with purchasing custom items from this store. It's one thing to purchase something there and in stock, but for anything that will come in later, this store may or not provide your item. I'll be reporting them to the BBB as I have not received any mention of a refund and haven't received my item.
