The Indiana Theater is located at 419 E. Main Street, Washington, Indiana. It was built in 1926,…read moreand features period architecture, ornate molded plaster capitols, decorated beams, a full featured stage, period sconce lighting, a full service concession area, large lobby. There is some street parking right in front or you can park along a side street. This theatre is such a cool old building and just recently they have been doing some remodeling on the main floor and putting in new floors and new seats. It wasn't quite completed when we were there but are very thankful that they allowed us to have the main floor anyway. They offer movies for families or groups where you can have the entire theatre to yourself. It was such a nice experience to be able to do this with extended family. Normally they reserve the upstairs theatre for this but we let them know that we had someone in a wheelchair and so they made every effort to have the main floor ready so we could use it. The concessions are typical movie theatre with the awesome buttery popcorn and boxed candy, nachos, drinks... oh and they offer free refills! Kind of something that is unheard of nowadays! Overall this is a great place to go see a movie and we will definitely be back.

This may have been the most disappointing AMC experience I have ever faced first hand…read more Theirs literally groups of workers just standing around but of course we are being helped by people who don't know what they're doing nor what they're talking about. What's worse, one of the supervisors was also just chatting it up at the ticket stand while the young man struggled with our loyalty membership (he ended up asking her for help) - just very poor management trickling down to the staff. We ask a young lady, at the concession stand, if we could get cups for water, she tells us they don't sell cups of water but we can buy a bottle of water or we can buy a fountain drink cup and get water. The fountain drink CUP was $6 compared to the bottle of Smartwater, which was $5 - we agree on the bottle water and she tells us she has small cups for water b/c we were ready to share the bottle...didn't we just ask you for cups for water? Lastly, the lights in the theater were on above us and it was very distracting.

It replaced the older theater next doors, which I still loved, but needed updating. The place was huge. It was clean. It was fun. I went back to see No Way Home after a few years hiatus. It was trashed. It's almost like someone took their drink and spilled it from the entrance doors to their theater seat, refilled their cup, and did it again over every square inch of the place. I'll chalk it up to low staffing and late in the night. I hope they mopped. I'll do it for free it was so bad. There is another theater in town that is well known for its sticky floor. It's a small 2 screener. My whole life it was the cheap one so the jokes about the floor were fine. BUT THIS. This was worse. Staff are great, helpful, overall awesome people. I hope the AM shows the theater super clean, but wow, it was rough for that night. The drink fountains were a mess. I'm pretty sure a patron hit the ice machine and just kept their hand on it to be a loser. That's what I think mostly happened. Some kids and adults need supervision and their hand help. I hope they up their staff for cleaning and keeping an eye on the mess makers. It's the best theater in the area, so I hope they can turn it around.

The space was similar to other movie theaters but had room to spread out which was nice. We would return for a movie and dinner for sure! We arrived and parked in the garage located next to the theater. When we checked in at the box office, we were told to request parking ticket validation upstairs. They provide 3-hour parking validation. I was under the belief that we could order refreshments from our seats, but the usher at the theater door advised that we should order at the counter and food (with the exception of beverages, popcorn and candies) would be brought out to our seats. This was disappointing because the line was quite long. We stood in the queue and once we reached the counter, we were assisted by what I believe was the food service manager. He spoke with a sense of ownership over the issue that was their beer refrigeration line. All of their beer is on tap, and none was available because of this issue. The gentleman was short with us. He talks fast and asked what we'd like and before we could even get the words out of our mouths, he demanded that we produce our seat tickets. I was pulling them out of my pocket when he said something to the effect of "we can't deliver it to your seats if we don't know where you're seated". This is true, but once I gave him the tickets, he held onto them until the end of our transaction. If he didn't need them right away, then why cut us off like that? My husband tipped on the receipt, but I felt that the service was subpar. I hope the tips are given to the food runners. When we found our seats, there was a huge spill in front of one of them. The employees have to come into the theater and remove dishes, cups, etc. after each show, so that spill should have been addressed. I found an employee who was running food orders and asked him for a towel. He graciously assisted us in cleaning up the spill. We both ordered The Fast Times pizzas. They were small, personal sized pies. They were cheesy, with a generous amount of pepperoni, but the crust wasn't fully cooked. I barely ate half of mine before I began feeling sick. I had to excuse myself to restroom shortly thereafter when I became ill. My husband's stomach is stronger than mine, or perhaps his was fully cooked. The seats were comfortable and I don't think you can pick a "bad one", but the food and the service could use improvement.

Danville's Royal Theater is exactly what you'd expect as a historic, single-screen theater nestled…read moreintimately directly on Danville, Indiana's town square. With ticket prices well under usual chain prices, including first-run such as the current Lilo & Stitch, Royal Theater offers moviegoers a classic movie experience with the benefit of also being able to book both classics, first-run, and a family film series. Royal Theater was first built in 1914 and was Danville's first movie theater. It was bought in 1926 by Thomas Barrett. Barrett razed two buildings to the side of the theater and expanded the "photoplay parlor" in a Tudor Revival style. Barrett himself was from England and this definitely made sense. It re-opened in 1927 with a 600-seat capacity. It also had a pipe organ, lighted marquee, and stage. The Royal today maintains its 1920s appearance. It's a theater that really leans into its nostalgia and I personally smile every time I pass by it. The Royal hosts a free family film festival during the Summer. It's on Wednesdays at 10am. This year's schedule includes: June 4th ~ Kung Fu Panda 4 June 11th ~ IF June 18th The Garfield Movie June 25th ~ Despicable Me 4 July 2nd ~ Harold and The Purple Crayon July 9th ~ The Wild Robot July 16th ~ Hitpig July 23rd ~ Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Is accessibility perfect here? Of course not. This is a historic movie theater, though I've found it better than expected. While some buildings on the town square are definitely not accessible (my guess is 1/2 the stores on Danville's town square have a step into them), several key ones are including the Royal. This is still a single-screen theater. Tickets and concessions are affordable. The theater can be rented (my understanding is the owner is pretty selective, though I've not experienced this side of the theater). While Avon has chain moviegoing experiences, and they're fine, for true cineastes this is practically a must-attend theater. They typically do an evening screening (definitely not an all-day theater). They do occasionally host concerts and events, as well. I should also note that parking around the square is free with a two-hour time limit (five hours for disabled placard parking spots). If you go to the Royal, dial down the expectations and have fun. These are friendly people with a good (not great) screen and a casual approach that is perfect for this small town indie theater. The theater itself is attractive, well-kept, and prices are great. This may not be quite a destination spot, however, Danville is for sure worth a daytrip. The Mayberry Cafe (think Andy Griffith Show-themed) is within walking distance, Danville Dips is around the corner, the Authors' Patch Bookstore is also around the corner, and this small town's charm is abundant.

The people are friendly and efficient and it's just a nice place to go watch a show. It's a great…read moreplace to take family without having to go far and spend a lot of money.
