Nice local theater. They had newer recliners in the screening room we were in. Older, but clean and comfortable. Good sound.

I'm used to big city movie theaters. This theater is in a smaller town. It has been updated with reclining seats, and they have a limited selection of snacks, but seemed fairly priced for a movie theater. I didn't get a photo of the small concession list as the line was fairly long. A large soda was 5.50, popcorn only comes in one size (probably a typical medium bag) and is 6, kids packs were 6, nachos were 6, candy was 3 and 4.50 depending on what kind you wanted. They also offered a large selection of Icee flavors. Their Pepsi machine was a newer one as well, with flavor add-ins available. There is a small arcade when you first walk in. We didn't play any games though. The aisles were not marked well in the theater we had seats in. The seats were comfortable and reclined. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. read more

This theater had both an old school and a new school vibe and overall I was happy with the experience. Really good prices on popcorn and soda for a theater. Also had a nice little arcade and games. We were there early, so it was fun for the whole family to play while waiting for the movie to start. The audio was ok, not amazing nor did it sound bad. For being an older theater I was actually surprised how nice the seats were. They were recliners and that was a nice touch. I did find it funny though when I asked one of the employees about them, not showing up on Fandango, and they said they didn't know what Fandango was! Overall though, if you're in Jasper and you get a craving for a movie, this theater will be more than adequate. read more

Very comfortable and affordable theatre in the Dubois County area! I have so many memories at this movie theatre, from growing up coming to movies with my family and friends, to returning as an adult to catch the latest flick! What I love most about Jasper 8 Theatre is their ticket prices! Tickets are $7 for adults ($5 during matinee hours!), which I think is extremely reasonable...especially compared to some other theatres... I also feel that their concession prices are quite reasonable, featuring combos as well as individual items. The theater hosts up to date movies and is always featuring the upcoming ones in their lobby, too! Speaking of their lobby, they have a variety of arcade games and even a photo booth available to pass some time! There are restrooms located both in the lobby area and in the theatre hallway. The actual theater seating has recently been renovated to offer comfortable, leather-like seating with armrests and cupholders on both sides. Not only is this very comfortable, but I also appreciate the fact that the material is easy to wipe down with disposable wipes if need be. This makes it so people can protect themselves during flu season, if they see necessary. All in all, I feel this is a great option for a movie theater in the Dubois County area! You have to be a fan as this is the only establishment to see movies in the Jasper area. Otherwise, get ready to drive about 45-60 minutes to Evansville. The owners know they are the pick for any movies, so the drive to keep up standards at the theater is lacking more than what it should be. The prices I can't complain about. I live in a bigger city with bigger ticket prices so when I 'come home' to visit family, I love paying $2 for a small popcorn and $2 for a huge drink. Where I live now, I order the kids' pack and that costs me $6.75 - ugh. Don't get me wrong, the theater isn't horrible. It's kept fairly clean in the lobby and the seating areas in the theaters themselves. The bathrooms were clean but they're quite small and aren't wheelchair compliant (entry door width, height of the sink and soap, etc.) so that's a little sad to see. There's plenty of arcade and video games to take whatever money your kids want to spend. I do wish the selection of movies were more vast. Jasper 8 does have a bad habit of showing too many movies that should have gone straight to video instead of the big screen. I can't believe that more of a crowd wouldn't go see movies that provoke thought or have some meaning to them. Hence, you hear about a lot of folks driving into Evansville or the Louisville area for movies that Jasper won't show...or just wait until the video does come out and watch them in the comfort of their own homes. One complaint I do have, is I went to see a movie on Saturday, June 22. The local advertisements that are shown during the 'previews' time are very excessive...at least 15 full minutes of local advertising, if not 20 minutes. One business had three different 'commercials' showing different aspects of their business. Yes, this brings revenue into the theater and it helps out the owners but if I wanted to see advertising, I'd go the The Herald or look something up on Google. If I expect previews, then I expect previews of MOVIES...yes...movies. read more

I live in Bloomington, and our local options are the AMC theatres on the east and west side. I just went to see Paddington in Jasper, and I loved the whole experience! The movie started right on time. This was confusing for us. If AMC says a movie starts at 7:10, the PREVIEWS start at 7:10, and you have no idea when the movie actually starts. We went in a few minutes ahead of time expecting previews. I'm actually very happy to know this now. The prices were right! A matinee for 4 came to 20 bucks. Buying popcorn, soda, and kids packs was 15. Locally, 15 might get you a popcorn and a drink if you're lucky. The seats were a bit tight, but that's OK. The place had a pretty awesome game room, but the staff is unable to help if something happens. We wanted to use the picture booth, but before I could put my last dollar in, the machine stopped accepting them. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely enjoy seeing another movie there. If you like claw machines, be warned... bad claws... read more

Would not recommend Jasper 8 theater at all! After trying to drop off my 15 year old daughter and her 15 year old friend to watch Barbie they called to tell me they were not allowed to stay because they weren't 16 or older unless an adult stays with them. This rule begins after 6pm so if we had brought them an hour earlier we wouldn't have to stay. When I went back to get them there were several kids leaving and being picked up. The manager was very rude when went in stating I was responsible for their conduct. Mind you the girls had done nothing wrong. There we're no paper towels in the men's bathroom. The popcorn wasn't good. When you recline your seat you can not see the whole screen unless the seat in the front of you is reclined. Also, i was told I had to pay the adult price for the girls since they were over 12 yet they weren't allowed to stay by themselves because they weren't adults Horrible experience!!! read more

Showed up with a bag and was asked to be searched. Even tho i did have food in my bag, it was rude and you do not have the right to tell me to put my bag back in the car. Not sure if the previous reviewer has ever been to a movie or not but every movie I ever go to ALWAYS has 10-20 minutes of previews prior to the start of the actual movie! ALWAYS! Now this isn't the cleanest or most high-tech place and the staff needs to mature a bit but the prices are absolutely unbeatable!! I would take coming to Jasper 8 over going to the $10 "matinee" in Owensboro ANY day! The new releases in Jasper are sometimes slow in coming but like I said, for the price...who cares!! read more

I was just reading the reviews others have posted. I am not sure what people expect. I am originally from St. Louis and have had BAD experiences in Movie Theatres. What happen to taking a look at the positive side of everything. I am very sad that you don't tell how the staff yet young is learning from a Management that is caring and wants us to have a great experience at the Business that puts food on their families table. I have taken my family to Movies as we travel and really....we have it good here! Where can you take your family out for an evening and choose what you want to watch, get drinks, popcorn and candy without spending an arm and a leg? They have just put in new seats and they are great. Also, just a note if you use names of the owners you might want to make sure you know how to spell their names. They just happen to be very wonderful people. A suggestion...if you have a problem at Jasper 8, get off of your but and see what you can do to help...i.e. nicely let them know what is wrong. I am sure they can fix anything IF they know about it. Try doing without a Movie Theatre in Jasper. You might be singing a different tune. Oh and since I'm unloading, PICK UP YOUR OWN cups and trash after the movie. Wouldn't hurt for you to teach your children this also! End of rant! Yes, I am a fan of Jasper 8! read more

Not my first choice. We live 15 minutes from this theater and 20 minutes from a theater in French Lick call Springs StadiumTheater. We most ALWAYS choose French Lick. I went to a matinee on A Wednesday afternoon to see Incredibles 2. It was me and my children. We had times it perfect to be able to go to our appointment in town 15 minutes after the movie. With about 20 minutes of the movie left the power went out due to a storm. Ok, it happens. No one came in the theater to tell us it was ok, that the film would restart soon, no one asked us to be patient while they try to restart.... NOTHING! 10 minutes goes by and we can no longer stay without missing our appointment. So I go out and ask the manager on duty , Susan, if there would be any way we could get maybe half of our money back or what we could do because er had an appointment to get to. Realizing they couldn't help it I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. Turns out another family did the same thing as I did. She was rude to them and very rude to us. When I asked what we could do, she replied, what do you want me to do about it? The movie will come back on so you can wait. Appalled, I simply stated I was sorry but we had a doctors appointment that we had to get to otherwise we would have waited. She then let out a large and long sigh, pulled out a notebook, threw it in the front counter, and said "Here"! And handed us 4 passes marked 2D movie pass. We can use these any time to come back to see a movie. Well the way we were treated, I'm really not in a hurry about going back. Contemplating just letting the passes expire and going back to French Lick to watch movies. Jasper 8 had the worst customer service! Not to mention when I got concessions, my total was $17.50, I gave the girl behind the counter a $20 bill and 50 cents, and she tried to give me $4.50 in change. Good thing I was honest! Not my best experience! I would take a drive through the country and go to French Lick where the customer service is great, concessions are great, and the seating is way more comfortable, not to mention the facility itself is cleaner. We attend 1- 2 movies per week for the past several years with little to complain about. Several months ago this business decided to not pop fresh popcorn each night but to serve what was left from the previous day ,what a CHEAP move. For the past several months you can not get HOT butter with your leftover popcorn they place a squeeze bottle of cold butter subistute at the butter machine which is not turned on because the staff do not want to clean it at the end of the shift.CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. Ask the manager for fresh popcorn and or hot butter you will get a look of astonishment for asking them , Bob,Lavella and sons you are better than this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

The movie was advertised to start at 9:30. By 9:45, they were still playing commercials. We paid to watch advertising for 15 minutes. When I asked the ticket taker to start the movie...or at least the previews...he was rude and unhelpful. He said it was on a timer. I asked to see a manager. The manager never came. For the rest of the 2 hour movie, it was uncomfortable, cold, and the sound level was bad. Did not try the concessions. The entryway is chaotic. Someone, please buy the Astra. read more

I have never left a review on a place good or bad but this is the only movie place in jasper we can go and watch movies.I know they have new owners now so I'll give them a little bit of a break because they need time to improve the place. Which I have seen some fun changes they have made. We spent $25 which isn't much for a movie but we get there at the last movie showing because we like to go and relax after the day and the popcorn isn't fresh (which is the best part of going) and its happened a few times. Maybe pop a small batch before every showing so that it can be fresh for the new people coming in. And the comfort of the chairs they have....It makes me not even want to go and watch a movie thinking of how uncomfortable they are. The arm rests don't come up and I feel squeezed especially sitting next to someone and they are hard as a rock. I want to stand up half way through and stretch my body. Anyway, hope to see little changes because we do like to support the business around jasper. We don't have a lot as is. read more

This theatre gets continually worse. They don't list movie times for the coming week in print or on the web. The popcorn is frequently stale and unappetizing. Also, they have audio and visual issues. The screen has been out of focus, and the sound is often too loud or too soft. I have been there multiple times when the projector hasn't worked. Recently, I was there watching a PG-13 film. After the previews, the wrong movie started to play. Unfortunately, the film playing was rated R and began with a somewhat explicit sex scene. They are lucky that they are not in an area with a lot of competition because theses issues, along with outdated seats and technology, make for a poor movie viewing experience. read more

I love this quaint theater. The staff is always pleasant and accommodating and the prices are very reasonable. They don't have the stadium seating like the more modern theaters, but the seating is comfortable and clean. Wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

Be prepared to be a part of the staff when you go to this theater. Once they start a projector, they never go back in to check on it. So you have to go FIND someone once the movie has started, to get anything corrected. I have had to miss 10 minutes of a film for film off the screen, sound too loud, dirt on the projector lense. The last time was Tuesday Sept.16th, 2014. Took my daughter to see Guardians of the Galaxy before it went off. They left the overhead lights on in the projection booth. For the whole movie. The manager was at the door to our screen after it was over, and I told her it would have been a lot more enjoyable if the light wasn't glaring out of the booth. She acted like it was my fault for not getting up and chasing someone down. Seriously, when I said I hadn't wanted to miss any of the movie, she said "You could have gotten up and got someone during the previews." So basically, they have a "FU" mentality. So it's too much work for them to do a walk through at the screening booths ONE time after the shows start? FYI, the popcorn is terrible. Cheapest, most full of hulls I have ever had. Gah. And yet we still go to this cinema, cause it's the ONLY ONE IN THE COUNTY. How nice for them. read more
