Showplace Newburgh has seen some changes over the years--and I think you could say for the better…read moreoverall. I hadn't been here in a number of years, but grew up coming here since it was the closest movie theater to home. The new renovation is a great addition for families with older kids, but as a newcomer the layout is a little confusing -- we didn't tour the new FEC that was added on, just wanted to go see a movie. You buy your movie tickets in the main lobby and only give it to the ticket taker when you go into the cinema area -- the concession stand is now outside that area entirely, and although there's another stand beyond the rope I can't help but wonder if this allows for in-and-out privileges if you want a refill or another snack since that stand was closed on our visit. I would hope so, but it wasn't really clear how the "new" way works for someone used to the old layout. (Maybe that's just me.) The theater itself could use a little updating though honestly, the seats are a little uncomfortable and the armrests aren't moveable so if you're gifted in the hips they're kind of a tight squeeze. As for those complaining about the price -- welcome to the movie business, friends. It's not like Showplace is robbing you any more than AMC or Regal or any other theater chain. If you want cheap, second run movies then go to Showplace South -- but if you're looking for first run, you're going to pay for it.

If you wanna bowl, go anywhere but here.

I went here last summer, for my very first drive in experience, & I absolutely loved it. Having…read morenever been to a drive in at the age of 26, I felt like a kid experiencing something new for the first time! At the time we went, my boyfriend had a truck, so we brought blankets & the two of us piled into the bed of his truck along with our two boys to watch the movies. It was great being able to have our own space, & not having to hear any other annoying people that tend to visit traditional theaters. I can imagine the experience is much better if you have a truck rather than a car, but there were quite a few people there in cars as well, & some even brought lawn chairs & set on the grass to watch the movie. Sound for the movies is provided through a station you can pick up on your own radio in your vehicle or you can pick up a small portable radio I believe at the concession stands. The best thing about this drive in is that at the price you would pay to see one movie in a normal theater, you get to watch two back to back at this drive in. It is $9 for adults, & $5 for ages 4-11. So children younger than 4 are free! They also have two concession stands with decent prices compared to a traditional theater, so you could actually afford to buy snacks & beverages! But, even better, you can bring in your own, which saves a lot of money! But, if you want to wait till you get there to get any kind of food, they offer so much more than a traditional theater. Besides the usual popcorn or nachos, they also serve burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, fries, onion rings, soft pretzels, & even ice cream & sno-cones! If it is a cool night, you can even purchase coffee or hot chocolate. They have bathrooms as well. This is a cash only establishment though, for the concession stand as well as the ticket booth, so keep that in mind if planning a visit. I believe this place is a gem, & cannot wait for my second visit! Anyone who has never been to a drive in should definitely go, at least once! The experience is well worth it. Maybe bring some bug spray, if you are like me, cause the mosquitos love to eat me up!
