I love the club it's a salad with pulled pork, something love. Richelle said she yummy loved the brisket Mac-n-cheese. If you get it to go it will not look pretty when you get it home, see my picture, it was all mixed up but that is how Richelle would have eaten it any way. I have heard many of my fellows complain of stomachaches and nausea accompanying a trip to this paradise of cookery. Alas! they exaggerate their sufferings, seeking to blame Lil' Charlie's for their own puerile digestive system. For those who criticize the food itself, I have no words. Indeed, I must restrain my tongue; for no fire burns too hot for them, no poison good enough to scorch their iniquitous throats, no--but I must hinder my rash flow of words: justice makes me speak thus. Now I shall presume to speak of the menu. Presume, because who can hope to accomplish the feat of expounding, in mere human words, the transcendence that is the cooking of Lil' Charlie's? I feel as Dante felt when, looking into the eyes of his lady-love Beatrice (oh! those luminous eyes 'lucent-weeping from the dayspring'!), he laments his inability to capture the beauty of it in words. To use Browning's phrase: "Poor the speech; be how I speak for all things". If Browning stumbles in his speech, what can I hope to say? Nevertheless, I set sail in uncertain waters, trusting that my words may carry me through. The food itself is the platonic ideal of perfection. The pork sandwich, Homeric in its proportions, leaves no hungry waif unsatisfied. The chicken wings come in divers seasonings. Jamaican Jerk? Parmesan and garlic? Classic Buffalo? Lil' Charlie's has you covered. The salads are a pleasant meal in themselves; one cannot eat them without conjuring up images of sunny pastorals or the Ecologues written by Theocritus, where joy-drunk shepherds recite their bucolic verses to one another. I shall go so far as to compare the summer salad to a painting by Watteau. Such is the magical power wielded by the chefs of Lil' Charlie's. The one stain upon the pure tapestry woven by the Muses themselves may be said to be the Father Franz Chili. It was rather too oily and contained NO beans! Absurd! Maddening! All in all, it was still a somewhat palatable meal. I must end my paean to Lil' Charlie's without praising the many other attractive features that lend it lustre. The atmosphere is homey and attractive; the tables are as clean and polished as a verse by Virgil. I blush with shame that I cannot hymn the staff, angels of culinary perfection, as is fit. All I can add is that Heaven shall reward them the highest sphere among its many mansions. And, to you one young man who laments the time it takes to receive your food (you know your name, oh unfortunate one!), all I can wish is for your tongue to cleave to your jaws and your liver to pour forth upon the earth. I took my parents and my boyfriend with me and we all left satisfied and in awe. Their coleslaw was incredible! Same with their potatoes and gravy. So when Gayle, Shauna, and I were looking for a place for Lunch (after listening to darling granddaughter play cello in her school's orchestra at the local high school), I immediately gravitated to the front door. The others were not so sure, but I managed to talk then into it. The interior is a bit dark (as expected) and relatively small, with tables on both side of the center bar. There's a couple TVs and at the time I enjoyed watching Iowa (Go Hawkeyes!) play in the NCAA Women's tournament. Service was friendly, albeit a little slow at times, but we had time and I enjoyed hanging out. And unlike Grandpa Rowan back then, no one was calling the bar asking my whereabouts. Unlike the Milwaukee of old, they weren't serving yellow beer, but rather really good craft brew. 2 of us went for Jack the Bum, while the other chose Diesel Oil Stout. The guys that work at the brewery are friendly and will takl to you about the brewing process and the hops they have growing outside. Pints are $5, and they had a flatbread pizza truck out for the First Friday show. There's a small indoor tap room and a patio with limited seating, so bring a chair or something if you're going for music.

Super chill divey spot and has some really great prices. They also have a focus on the history of the bar which I love. They have hanging mugs for regulars and clearly have a focus on the community. My only criticism is the service. I am a lover of bars, and have worked in the hospitality Industry my whole career, and what I can say is that this place is not welcoming to newcomers. I get it, I've been a regular before, and have had my own regulars at spots as well. If you want to attract new business, you have to lure them in and make an attempt to be friendly. Regardless of this, the beer is cold, that neon keeps glowing night after night, and I'll keep coming back.

The server was super friendly and helpful - he got us seated and grabbed drinks immediately. My dad obviously knew what he wanted, but the rest of us needed a moment. Go for the fried pickles! They were so good that we didn't even have a chance to take a pic. The breading was super flavorful and crunchy, and if you're a fan, definitely get them. Half of us got the pork tenderloin sandwich, the others got fish and chips. Everything was really good - I liked them both, and they were both accompanied by great French fries. Enjoyable spot for lunch!
